"60 Miles an Hour" is a song by the English rock band New Order, released as the second single from their seventh album Get Ready. It entered the UK charts at number 29.
All songs written and composed by Gillian Gilbert, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Bernard Sumner; except where indicated.
Miles per hour (abbreviated mph, MPH or mi/h) is an imperial and United States customary unit of speed expressing the number of statute miles covered in one hour. Although kilometres per hour is now used worldwide, miles per hour remains the standard unit for speed limits in the United States, the United Kingdom, Antigua & Barbuda and Puerto Rico, although the latter two use kilometres for distances.
These include roads in the United Kingdom, the United States, and UK and US territories; American Samoa, the Bahamas, Belize, British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, the Falkland Islands, Grenada, Guam, Myanmar, The N. Mariana Islands, Samoa, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, St. Helena, St. Kitts & Nevis, Turks & Caicos Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Antigua & Barbuda (although km are used for distance), and Puerto Rico (same as former).
Miles per hour are also used in the Canadian rail system. In some countries it may be used to express the speed of delivery of a ball in sporting events such as cricket, tennis and baseball.
New Order are an English rock band formed in 1980, currently consisting of founding members Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert, alongside Phil Cunningham and Tom Chapman. The band was formed in 1980 by Sumner (vocals, guitars, keyboards and synthesisers), ex member Peter Hook (bass and vocals) and Morris (drums, electronic drums, keyboards and synthesizers) – the remaining members of post-punk group Joy Division, following the suicide of vocalist Ian Curtis – with the addition of Gilbert (keyboards, synthesizers and guitars).
By combining post-punk with an increasing influence from electronic dance music, New Order became one of the most critically acclaimed and influential bands of the 1980s. Though the band's early years were shadowed by the legacy and basic sound of Joy Division, their experience of the early 1980s New York City club scene increased their knowledge of dance music and helped them incorporate elements of that style into their work. The band's 1983 hit "Blue Monday", the best-selling 12-inch single of all time, is one example of how the band's sound became increasingly upbeat and electronic.

A girl asks her sister the classic 80 miles per hour question i.e. "If I'm travelling to a location 80 miles away, I leave at 2 o'clock and I'm travelling at 80 miles per hour, what time will I arrive". The question proves to be too much for her to handle, until her mother steps in! Brilliant, very funny.

The first tanks that rumbled across the trenches of the First World War moved at only 4 miles per hour. Today, battle tanks weighing 60 tons roar over the countryside at 45 miles per hour. Their guns can blast a uranium dart into an enemy tank over a mile away, day or night. This episode traces the evolution of the tank from 1915 to present.
I don't know if I told you, but I'm seeking sanctuary
You'll never guess the things that I do
I'll have the devil round for tea
Don't you know that I'm here beside you
Can't you see that I can't relax
When I saw you in my rearview
You could've stopped me in my tracks
I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll stand by your side like I always do
In the dead of night it'll be alright
'Cos I'll be there for you when you want me to
You can take me to an island, ride across the stormy sea
We can worship pagan idols, there together you and me
Why don't you run over here and rescue me?
You can drive down in your car
Why don't we both take a ride and turn that key
We'll drive at 60 miles an hour
I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll stand by your side like I always do
In the dead of night it'll be alright
'Cos I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll stand by your side like I always do
In the dead of night it'll be alright
'Cos I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll stand by your side like I always do
In the dead of night it'll be alright
'Cos I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll stand by your side like I always do
