A madrigal is a secular vocal music composition, usually a partsong, of the Renaissance and early Baroque eras. Traditionally, polyphonic madrigals are unaccompanied; the number of voices varies from two to eight, and most frequently from three to six. It is quite distinct from the Italian Trecento madrigal of the late 13th and 14th centuries, with which it shares only the name.
Madrigals originated in Italy during the 1520s. Unlike many strophic forms of the time, most madrigals were through-composed. In the madrigal, the composer attempted to express the emotion contained in each line, and sometimes individual words, of a celebrated poem.
The madrigal originated in part from the frottola, in part from the resurgence in interest in vernacular Italian poetry, and also from the influence of the French chanson and polyphonic style of the motet as written by the Franco-Flemish composers who had naturalized in Italy during the period. A frottola generally would consist of music set to stanzas of text, while madrigals were through-composed. However, some of the same poems were used for both frottola and madrigals. The poetry of Petrarch in particular shows up in a wide variety of genres.
Danny Rivera (born February 27, 1945) is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter who was born in San Juan whose career spans nearly 50 years. He is well known in Puerto Rico for his political activism. In 2008, Rivera acquired the Dominican Republic citizenship. After 12 years of work Danny Rivera and Nelson González in 2014 finished work putting new life into the classical bolero - in Spanish. Latin Luminaries Danny Rivera and Nelson González Hit the Heart of the Latin American Song Book on Obsesión (Release March 25, 2014)
Danny Rivera is often called “the national voice of Puerto Rico,” but his magnificent, passionate way of singing is known all over the Spanish-speaking world. In Latin America, he has been a familiar face on television since 1968. Over the course of a career that reaches its fiftieth year in 2015, Rivera has recorded over seventy albums and is the only Puerto Rican to star at Carnegie Hall in four different decades (1979, 1989, 1999, 2010).
Danny Rivera was born of humble origins in one of the deepest Afro-Rican culture zones—Santurce, Puerto Rico, the home of many of the island’s most popular musicians and now part of the modern metropolitan area of San Juan. Born on February 27, 1945 in the neighborhood of 23 abajo, named for one of the stops on a now-defunct trolley line, his first experiences with singing were in the chorus of an evangelical church and in the bars of his neighborhood, and with the barriles (barrel drums) of the streetside bomba that is Puerto Rico’s strongest link to the era of plantation slavery.
The University of the Philippines Madrigal Singers (UPMS), also known as the Philippine Madrigal Singers or simply Madz, is one of the major choral groups based in the University of the Philippines, Diliman. Its current conductor and musical director is Mark Anthony Carpio. They are the first choir in the world to win the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing twice (in 1997 and in 2007). To date, only four choirs in the world have attained this achievement.
The Philippine Madrigal Singers (affectionately known as the "Madz") was founded in 1963 by National Artist for Music, Professor Andrea O. Veneracion. The Madz is mostly composed of students, faculty and alumni from the University of the Philippines. The group's trademark performance stance, singing seated in a semicircle without a conductor, is instantly recognizable. A standard Madz performance clearly exhibits the seamless fusion of their musical virtuosity, technical proficiency and soulful singing with perfectly executed dynamics and diction. Their highly eclectic repertoire spans the breadth and length of vocal music: from Renaissance madrigals to the avant-garde, from Filipino and international folksongs to the latest pop hits, even from the most cerebral choral masterpieces to the most humorous of novelty numbers. This world-class choir can honestly sing anything with authenticity and professionalism while keeping their audience thoroughly entertained.

Farewell to the Chimera of my fantasy
I have sealed the chapter of this servile apostasy
Blood of resurrection please shine upon me
Let me love again, let the ashes of cruel memories die
and rest
Die and rest, please let me love again
Sweet, soft aphrodisiac smother this neophyte's sins
Tame, hallowed angel, reach out for the argonaut's
wings
You speak pendragon's splendour, a willow flower in a
crimson tide
Ablaze with majesty, you sparkle in with winterwild,
the winterwild, so wild

Come, come my friend there's no need to pretend
Today's beginning sees our sadness end
A Madrigal's ode, that yearns to adore
A Valerian vigil for the eve of ever more
My electric child, spectral woman
Welcome my friend listen to the breeze whisper
Orifice of the equinox of my ambrosia
A Madrigal's ode, that yearns to adore
A Valerian vigil for the eve of Evermore
