In honor of the 100th anniversary of when the Easter Uprising began on Apr. 24, 1916, SundanceTV presents the Irish drama REBELLION as a special three-night miniseries event beginning Sun., Apr. 24 through Tue., Apr. 26 at 9/8c. The five-part miniseries charts the birth of modern Ireland during one of the most tumultuous and dangerous periods in history.
The star-studded cast includes Brian Gleeson (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Bachelor Weekend); Charlie Murphy (Philomena); Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones); Ruth Bradley (Humans, Best Actress IFTA for Grabbers) and Sarah Greene (Penny Dreadful, Tony nominated for The Cripple of Inishmaan).

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising, the rebellion for Irish independence that changed the course of the country’s history. The five-part series Rebellion charts the birth of modern Ireland during this period in history, starting with the outbreak of World War I. The series is produced by Touchpaper Television and Zodiak Media Ireland for RTÉ, in co-production with SundanceTV. Zodiak Rights represents the title internationally.
The drama premiered in Ireland earlier this year and recently made its U.S. debut on SundanceTV. It is also available on Netflix worldwide outside of Ireland, the U.S. and Finland. Brian
Brian (sometimes spelled Bryan) is a male given name of Irish and Breton origin, as well as a surname of Occitan origin. It is common in the English-speaking world. It is possible that the name is derived from an Old Celtic word meaning "high" or "noble". For example, the element bre means "hill"; which could be transferred to mean "eminence" or "exalted one". The name is quite popular in Ireland, on account of Brian Boru, a 10th-century king of Ireland. The name was also quite popular in East Anglia during the Middle Ages. This is because the name was introduced to England by Bretons following the Norman Conquest. Bretons also settled in Ireland along with the Normans in the 12th century, and 'their' name was mingled with the 'Irish' version. Also, in the north-west of England, the 'Irish' name was introduced by Scandinavian settlers from Ireland. Within the Gaelic speaking areas of Scotland, the name was at first only used by professional families of Irish origin. It was the fourth most popular male name in England and Wales in 1934, but a sharp decline followed over the remainder of the 20th century and by 1994 it had fallen out of the top 100. It retained its popularity in the United States for longer; its most popular period there was from 1968–1979 when it consistently ranked between eighth and tenth.

The Walworth Farce
The Walworth Farce is a 2006 play by Enda Walsh.
Plot
A council flat on the Walworth Road, Elephant and Castle, London. Dinny is exiled from his native Cork City with his two sons Blake and Sean. Every day, holed up in the flat, they endlessly perform a play which depicts, in extremely garbled form, their last day in Ireland, which featured the death of Dinny's mother, followed by Dinny murdering his brother and sister-in-law. Blake plays all the female roles in a variety of wigs, while Sean plays the male roles. They also perform as younger versions of themselves, in which they bully other children and kill a dog. As they repeat the play (to an audience of nobody), it becomes apparent that this is a script that is constantly revised and modified, and features many bizarre events (such as Dinny's mother and neighbour dying in an accident involving a horse and a speedboat). Sean has some memory of the real events, and tells Blake (who has no memory of them) that the boys were in reality quiet children who planned to become astronauts and bus drivers when they grew up, and that their depiction as young sadists is their father's invention.

Brendan Gleeson
Brendan Gleeson (born 29 March 1955) is an Irish actor. His best-known performances include supporting roles in films such as Braveheart, Gangs of New York, 28 Days Later, Troy, and the Harry Potter films and leading roles in films such as In Bruges, The Guard, and Calvary. He won an Emmy Award in 2009 for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the film Into the Storm. He is also the father of Domnhall Gleeson.
Early life
Gleeson was born in Dublin, the son of Pat and Frank Gleeson. Gleeson has described himself as having been an avid reader as a child. He received his second level education at St. Joseph's CBS in Fairview, Dublin where he was a member of the school drama group. After training as an actor, he worked for several years as a secondary school teacher of Irish and English at the now defunct Catholic Belcamp College in North County Dublin, which closed in 2004. He was working simultaneously as an actor while teaching, doing semi-professional and professional productions in Dublin and surrounding areas. He left the teaching profession to commit full-time to acting in 1991.

Ruth Bradley
Ruth Bradley (born Sharon Ruth Bradley 24 January 1987) is an Irish actress.
Career
Bradley's first screen appearance were in 2002 in Ultimate Force (as Georgia Gracey) and Sinners (as Angela).
Since then, she has had recurring roles in The Clinic (3 episodes, 2003), Love Is the Drug (4 episodes, 2004), Legend (6 episodes, 2006), The Innocence Project (8 episodes, 2006-7), Plus One (6 episodes, 2007-9) and Love/Hate (season 1 and 2).
She presented at the 4th Irish Film and Television Awards in 2007. She won the IFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2007 for Stardust. In 2009 Bradley starred in the film In Her Skin, the true story of an Australian teen who goes missing and is later found to have been murdered by her childhood friend (played by Bradley). Bradley won a Best Actress award at the Milan International Film Festival 2010 for her performance.
In late 2010, she filmed the female lead in the Irish monster movie Grabbers, which opened in August 2012 and later screened worldwide.

Gleeson Clan Gathering 2016 "Seven Gleeson brothers emigrated from Gowran, Kilkenny to Australia in chain formation between 1848 and 1853. Their parents, Edward Gleeson snr. and Mary Lyons followed when aged in their mid-60s. Edward senior, who lived to the ripe age of 94 years, had participated in the 1798 Irish Rebellion, using a pike presumably made by his father, John Gleeson, a blacksmith. This Gleeson branch does not appear to have been indigenous to Gowran, and finding their antecedents remains an important quest for Brian." The study of emigrants from Britain can help both the emigrant’s descendants and the British left behind in tracing their own family lines back by triangulation, especially before 1800. As most DNA surname projects will contain a predominance of American members, it can help having a knowledge of the basics of American family history. The British can be in a strong position to help in research efforts to mutual benefit. The presentation will concentrate on emigration from England to America, 1606/7 to 1800, where survival of shipping lists can be rare. Wales is the closest part of mainland Britain to Ireland, so migration across the Irish Sea to Wales in both directions has occurred throughout recorded history. In a report from THR, Disney announced that they will be pulling its movies from Netflix and launch their own streaming service in 2019. The Mouse House will acquire a majority of BAMTech, a streaming technology company owned by Major League Baseball; which Disney already owns a stake in but will pay $1.58 billion for an additional 42 percent. Details of partnership came to light on Tuesday, with CEO Bob Iger saying that if a movie is Pixar- or Disney-branded, it will probably appear exclusively on the new service, including shows and movies made specifically for the service. The report states, however, that it is unsure if that will include Marvel and Star Wars.
Now that James Cameron has begun production on the long promised next chapter in the Avatar franchise, talk has turned to the returning characters we’ll see appearing in the movie. In an interview with Empire, Cameron revealed that the Avatar sequels will mainly feature the same characters from the original movie, noting that Stephen Lang’s Quaritch will be the villain in all of the movies.

The movie is expected to start production in September, and will star Stranger Things’ David Harbour as the title character, with The Descent’s Neill Marshall signed on to direct. Jovovich is of course, familiar to sci-fi audiences everywhere having been the face of the Resident Evil franchise, as well as starring in The Fifth Element.
Paramount has released the first, full trailer for mother! directed by Darren Aronofsky. Details on the plot for the new film have been limited, other than it’s a horror film starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem; with the story involving a couple dealing with some uninvited guests that cause havoc on their quiet life. The film also features Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, and Kristen Wiig and will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival before screening again at TIFF.

The film is based on the novel of the same name and stars Jacob Tremblay as a young boy born with facial differences that, until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Troy (Ancient Greek: Ἴλιον, Ilion, or Ἴλιος, Ilios; and Τροία, Troia; Latin: Trōia and Īlium; Hittite: Wilusa or Truwisa;Turkish: Truva) was a city well-known to both history and legend (as well as archaeology), and situated in northwest Anatolia in what is now Turkey, south of the southwest end of the Dardanelles/Hellespont and northwest of Mount Ida. It is best known for being the setting of the Trojan War described in the Greek Epic Cycle and especially in the Iliad, one of the two epic poems attributed to Homer. Metrical evidence from the Iliad and the Odyssey seems to show that the name Ἴλιον (Ilion) formerly began with a digamma: Ϝίλιον (Wilion). This was later supported by the Hittite form Wilusa.
A new city called Ilium was founded on the site in the reign of the Roman Emperor Augustus. It flourished until the establishment of Constantinople and declined gradually during the Byzantine era.
In 1865, English archaeologist Frank Calvert excavated trial trenches in a field he had bought from a local farmer at Hisarlık, and in 1868, Heinrich Schliemann, wealthy German businessman and archaeologist, also began excavating in the area after a chance meeting with Calvert in Çanakkale. These excavations revealed several cities built in succession. Schliemann was at first skeptical about the identification of Hisarlik with Troy, but was persuaded by Calvert[6] and took over Calvert's excavations on the eastern half of the Hisarlik site, which was on Calvert's property. Troy VII has been identified with the Hittite city Wilusa, the probable origin of the Greek Ἴλιον, and is generally (but not conclusively) identified with Homeric Troy.
Today, the hill at Hisarlik has given its name to a small village near the ruins, supporting the tourist trade visiting the Troia archaeological site.[7] It lies within the province of Çanakkale, some 30 km south-west of the provincial capital, also called Çanakkale. The nearest village is Tevfikiye. The map here shows the adapted Scamander estuary with Ilium a little way inland across the Homeric plain.

Achilles leads his Myrmidons along with the rest of the Greek army invading the historical city of Troy, defended by Hector's Trojan army. The end of the film (the sacking of Troy) is not taken from the Iliad as the ending of the Iliad was based on Hector's death and funeral burial.
The cast includes Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger, Saffron Burrows, Sean Bean, Brian Cox, Brendan Gleeson, Rose Byrne, Vincent Regan, Garrett Hedlund, Tyler Mane, and Peter O'Toole. The study of emigrants from Britain can help both the emigrant’s descendants and the British left behind in tracing their own family lines back by triangulation, especially before 1800. As most DNA surname projects will contain a predominance of American members, it can help having a knowledge of the basics of American family history. The British can be in a strong position to help in research efforts to mutual benefit. The presentation will concentrate on emigration from England to America, 1606/7 to 1800, where survival of shipping lists can be rare. This will be illustrated by 4-5 separate practical examples encountered, including convict transportation, in which combined Y-DNA and documentary research have either proved successful or are still awaiting Y-DNA matches to confirm. Changes to ports, shipping and the Royal Navy between these dates can help understanding considerably.

Brian Swann has been involved with family history since 1967 and is a founder member of the Norfolk, West Surrey and Dyfed FHS, as well as a member of the Society of Genealogists (1972) and the Guild of One-Name Studies (2009). He began involvement with DNA testing for family history purposes in 2000, and more seriously from early 2006. He also worked in and around the pharmaceutical industry in his day job in various roles for 40 years until retirement in 2011. He has been a member of ISOGG since late 2006, and helped get the enlarged DNA Area into WDYTYA in 2009.

Wales is the closest part of mainland Britain to Ireland, so migration across the Irish Sea to Wales in both directions has occurred throughout recorded history. Welsh family history is unique, but in some respects has parallels to Irish family history. These unique features of Welsh family history will be reviewed. The migration of Anglo-Norman families into Ireland and then later waves of migration via plantation settlements has given rise to a whole range of surnames in Ireland whose origins are now being investigated by the combination of careful Y-DNA analysis and family reconstructions.
Brian Swann worked in the pharmaceutical industry most of his working life (1971-2011) and began family history in 1967. He is a founder member of the Norfolk, Dyfed and West Surrey Family History Societies, a member of the Society of Genealogists since 1972 and a member of ISOGG since 2006. In 2009 he was instrumental in helping persuade FTDNA to sponsor a vastly enlarged DNA Area at Who Do You Think You Are at London, Olympia, which has contributed to the growth in awareness of the power of combining DNA and documentary research in the 21st century. His wife is Welsh, and he has a long-standing interest in the history of Wales, with special affinities to Glamorganshire and West Wales.
