At any given time, there are 50-70 ships, 140 aircraft and 40,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel assigned to the fleet. This includes forces operating from bases in Japan and Guam and rotationally-deployed forces based in the United States. Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet (C7F), is embarked aboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan. The flagship commands and controls the fleet, and fosters military-to-military relationships through scheduled port visits and military exercises.

South China Sea - U.S To Create The Biggest Modern Military Fleet Amid China Rising Power
United States announced plan to combine power of its 7th fleet and the 3rd fleet to counter the rising threat in the South China Sea. The total combined power of the 140,000 sailors, 200 ships and more than 1,200 aircrafts will create one of the biggest U.S. Navy force in the world.
The 7th Fleet consists of an aircraft carrier strike group five USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), 80 other vessels and 300 aircraft. The 3rd Fleet has more than 100 vessels, including four aircraft carriers: Carrier Strike Group Eleven USS Nimitz (CVN-68), Carrier Strike Group One USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), Carrier Strike Group Nine USS George Washington (CVN-73) and the Carrier Strike Group Three USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74).
The U.S. Navy’s 3rd Fleet vessels will be operating in the western Pacific, which is traditionally the 7th Fleet's area. The 3rd Fleet's Pacific Surface Action Group, which includes the guided-missile destroyers USS Spruance, USS Decatur and USS Momsen are deployed to East Asia. The ships will conduct a broad range of operations in the 7th Fleet's area, while remaining under the operational control of 3rd Fleet commander Vice Adm. Nora Tyson.
The Pentagon's ultimate aim is an increased presence and capacity to respond in the Western Pacific at a time of growing concern over Chinese maritime developments and North Korean provocation. A key part of the presence is to reassure allies in the region, particularly treaty allies South Korea, Japan and the Philippines.

Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RInfra)-controlled Reliance Defence and Engineering Limited (RDEL) has signed the Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA) with the US Navy to maintain the vessels of its Seventh Fleet operating in the region, with the company estimating revenues of about Rs 15,000 crore ($10 billion) over next 3 -5 years.
The Reliance Shipyard at Pipavav in Gujarat, one of the largest drycocks in the world, was qualified by as an approved contractor in January 2017 to perform complex repair and alternation services for the US Navy.
The Reliance Shipyard is the first in India to have received MSRA Certification to undertake servicing and repairing work for the vessels of the Seventh Fleet. The fleet has about 100 vessels of different types including auxiliaries. Currently, these vessels visit Singapore or Japan for such works.
"Reliance Shipyard has been selected after a detailed site survey by US Government representatives in end October 2016," an RInfra satement said, adding: "This selection by the US Navy is a true recognition of the world-class facility, processes and the high standard of capability of Reliance Shipyard."
The MSRA is a spin-off from the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) signed on August 30, 2016 during Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's visit to US. The negotiations for this had spanned over a decade.
The LEMOA is a tweaked India-specific version of the Logistics Support Agreement (LSA) that the US has with several countries it has close military-to-military cooperation with.
The LEMOA gives both countries access to designated military facilities on either side for refuelling and replenishment. India and the US already hold large number of joint exercises during which payments are done each time, which is a long and tedious process.
Pursuant to the signing of LEMOA, the US Navy is believed to have conducted survey of various shipyards in India before qualifying the Reliance Shipyard at Pipavav as the one qualified to undertake complex repair and maintenance work.

Task Force 77 has been the aircraft carrier battle/strike force of the United States Seventh Fleet in the United States Navy (USN) since the Seventh Fleet was formed.
Task Group 77.4 was at the centre of the Battle off Samar in 1944, part of the larger Battle of Leyte Gulf.
During the Korean War, Task Force 77 performed a number of combat deployments, where it provided air support and performed interdiction missions as part of the UN forces. Task Force 77 had carrier stations in both the Sea of Japan (East Coast Task Force) and the Yellow Sea (West Coast Task Force, designated Task Force 95), the latter consisting of carriers of the Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy, and USN escort carriers due to its proximity to the People's Republic of China. Seventeen USN, one RAN, and five RN carriers served in United Nations carrier operations at some point in time during the Korean War.
Between conflicts Task Force 77 was held in readiness for supporting French operations during the siege of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, and off Formosa (now Taiwan) during the several Quemoy-Matsu Crises. It also conducted limited operations over Laos in 1962 and 1964 before the commitment of U.S. combat forces to the Vietnam War.
During the Vietnam War, Task Force 77 conducted carrier strike operations from the Gulf of Tonkin and South China Sea for nine years, from 1964 to 1973. Twenty-one of the Navy's 23 operational carriers made at least one cruise with the Task Force and served over 9,100 days on the line.

The Seventh Fleet is a numbered fleet (a military formation) of the United States Navy. Task force
A task force (TF) is a unit or formation established to work on a single defined task or activity. Originally introduced by the United States Navy, the term has now caught on for general usage and is a standard part of NATO terminology. Many non-military organizations now create "task forces" or task groups for temporary activities that might have once been performed by ad hoc committees.
Naval
The concept of a naval task force is as old as navies, but the term came into extensive use originally by the United States Navy around the beginning of 1941, as a way to increase operational flexibility. Prior to that time the assembly of ships for naval operations was referred to as fleets, divisions, or on the smaller scale, squadrons, and flotillas.
Before World War II ships were collected into divisions derived from the Royal Navy's "division" of the line of battle in which one squadron usually remained under the direct command of the Admiral of the Fleet, one squadron was commanded by a Vice Admiral, and one by a Rear Admiral, each of the three squadrons flying different coloured flags, hence the terms flagship and flag officer. The flag of the Fleet Admiral's squadron was red, the Vice Admiral's was white and the Rear Admiral's blue. (The names "Vice" (possibly from advanced) and "Rear" might have derived from sailing positions within the line at the moment of engagement.) In the late 19th century ships were collected in numbered squadrons, which were assigned to named (such as the Asiatic Fleet) and later numbered fleets.

United States Navy
The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. The U.S. Navy is the largest, most capable navy in the world, with the highest combined battle fleet tonnage. The U.S. Navy has the world's largest aircraft carrier fleet, with ten in service, two in the reserve fleet, and three new carriers under construction. The service has 328,194 personnel on active duty and 101,199 in the Navy Reserve. It has 272 deployable combat vessels and more than 3,700 aircraft in active service as of February 2016.

The 21st century U.S. Navy maintains a sizable global presence, deploying in such areas as East Asia, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. It is a blue-water navy with the ability to project force onto the littoral regions of the world, engage in forward areas during peacetime, and rapidly respond to regional crises, making it an active player in U.S. foreign and defense policy.

The 3rd Fleet has more than 100 vessels, including four aircraft carriers: Carrier Strike Group Eleven USS Nimitz (CVN-68), Carrier Strike Group One USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), Carrier Strike Group Nine USS George Washington (CVN-73) and the Carrier Strike Group Three USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74).
The U.S. Navy’s 3rd Fleet vessels will be operating in the western Pacific, which is traditionally the 7th Fleet's area. The 3rd Fleet's Pacific Surface Action Group, which includes the guided-missile destroyers USS Spruance, USS Decatur and USS Momsen are deployed to East Asia. The ships will conduct a broad range of operations in the 7th Fleet's area, while remaining under the operational control of 3rd Fleet commander Vice Adm. Nora Tyson.
The Pentagon's ultimate aim is an increased presence and capacity to respond in the Western Pacific at a time of growing concern over Chinese maritime developments and North Korean provocation. A key part of the presence is to reassure allies in the region, particularly treaty allies South Korea, Japan and the Philippines.

The LEMOA is a tweaked India-specific version of the Logistics Support Agreement (LSA) that the US has with several countries it has close military-to-military cooperation with.
The LEMOA gives both countries access to designated military facilities on either side for refuelling and replenishment. India and the US already hold large number of joint exercises during which payments are done each time, which is a long and tedious process.

Task Force 77 has been the aircraft carrier battle/strike force of the United States Seventh Fleet in the United States Navy (USN) since the Seventh Fleet was formed.
Task Group 77.4 was at the centre of the Battle off Samar in 1944, part of the larger Battle of Leyte Gulf.
During the Korean War, Task Force 77 performed a number of combat deployments, where it provided air support and performed interdiction missions as part of the UN forces. Task Force 77 had carrier stations in both the Sea of Japan (East Coast Task Force) and the Yellow Sea (West Coast Task Force, designated Task Force 95), the latter consisting of carriers of the Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy, and USN escort carriers due to its proximity to the People's Republic of China. Seventeen USN, one RAN, and five RN carriers served in United Nations carrier operations at some point in time during the Korean War.
Between conflicts Task Force 77 was held in readiness for supporting French operations during the siege of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, and off Formosa (now Taiwan) during the several Quemoy-Matsu Crises. It also conducted limited operations over Laos in 1962 and 1964 before the commitment of U.S. combat forces to the Vietnam War.
During the Vietnam War, Task Force 77 conducted carrier strike operations from the Gulf of Tonkin and South China Sea for nine years, from 1964 to 1973. Twenty-one of the Navy's 23 operational carriers made at least one cruise with the Task Force and served over 9,100 days on the line.

The U.S. Navy’s 3rd Fleet vessels will be operating in the western Pacific, which is traditionally the 7th Fleet's area. The 3rd Fleet's Pacific Surface Action Group, which includes the guided-missile destroyers USS Spruance, USS Decatur and USS Momsen are deployed to East Asia. The ships will conduct a broad range of operations in the 7th Fleet's area, while remaining under the operational control of 3rd Fleet commander Vice Adm. Nora Tyson.
The Pentagon's ultimate aim is an increased presence and capacity to respond in the Western Pacific at a time of growing concern over Chinese maritime developments and North Korean provocation. A key part of the presence is to reassure allies in the region, particularly treaty allies South Korea, Japan and the Philippines.

South China Sea - U.S To Create The Biggest Modern Military Fleet Amid China Rising Power
United States announced plan to combine power of its 7th fleet and the 3rd fleet to counter the rising threat in the South China Sea. The total combined power of the 140,000 sailors, 200 ships and more than 1,200 aircrafts will create one of the biggest U.S. Navy force in the world.
The 7th Fleet consists of an aircraft carrier strike group five USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), 80 other vessels and 300 aircraft. The 3rd Fleet has more than 100 vessels, including four aircraft carriers: Carrier Strike Group Eleven USS Nimitz (CVN-68), Carrier Strike Group One USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), Carrier Strike Group Nine USS George Washington (CVN-73) and the Carrier Strike Group Three USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74).
The U.S. Navy’s 3rd Fleet vessels will be operating in the western Pacific, which is traditionally the 7th Fleet's area. The 3rd Fleet's Pacific Surface Action Group, which includes the guided-missile destroyers USS Spruance, USS Decatur and USS Momsen are deployed to East Asia. The ships will conduct a broad range of operations in the 7th Fleet's area, while remaining under the operational control of 3rd Fleet commander Vice Adm. Nora Tyson.
The Pentagon's ultimate aim is an increased presence and capacity to respond in the Western Pacific at a time of growing concern over Chinese maritime developments and North Korean provocation. A key part of the presence is to reassure allies in the region, particularly treaty allies South Korea, Japan and the Philippines.

Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RInfra)-controlled Reliance Defence and Engineering Limited (RDEL) has signed the Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA) with the US Navy to maintain the vessels of its Seventh Fleet operating in the region, with the company estimating revenues of about Rs 15,000 crore ($10 billion) over next 3 -5 years.
The Reliance Shipyard at Pipavav in Gujarat, one of the largest drycocks in the world, was qualified by as an approved contractor in January 2017 to perform complex repair and alternation services for the US Navy.
The Reliance Shipyard is the first in India to have received MSRA Certification to undertake servicing and repairing work for the vessels of the Seventh Fleet. The fleet has about 100 vessels of different types including auxiliaries. Currently, these vessels visit Singapore or Japan for such works.
"Reliance Shipyard has been selected after a detailed site survey by US Government representatives in end October 2016," an RInfra satement said, adding: "This selection by the US Navy is a true recognition of the world-class facility, processes and the high standard of capability of Reliance Shipyard."
The MSRA is a spin-off from the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) signed on August 30, 2016 during Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's visit to US. The negotiations for this had spanned over a decade.
The LEMOA is a tweaked India-specific version of the Logistics Support Agreement (LSA) that the US has with several countries it has close military-to-military cooperation with.
The LEMOA gives both countries access to designated military facilities on either side for refuelling and replenishment. India and the US already hold large number of joint exercises during which payments are done each time, which is a long and tedious process.

Task Force 77 has been the aircraft carrier battle/strike force of the United States Seventh Fleet in the United States Navy (USN) since the Seventh Fleet was formed.
Task Group 77.4 was at the centre of the Battle off Samar in 1944, part of the larger Battle of Leyte Gulf.
During the Korean War, Task Force 77 performed a number of combat deployments, where it provided air support and performed interdiction missions as part of the UN forces. Task Force 77 had carrier stations in both the Sea of Japan (East Coast Task Force) and the Yellow Sea (West Coast Task Force, designated Task Force 95), the latter consisting of carriers of the Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy, and USN escort carriers due to its proximity to the People's Republic of China. Seventeen USN, one RAN, and five RN carriers served in United Nations carrier operations at some point in time during the Korean War.
Between conflicts Task Force 77 was held in readiness for supporting French operations during the siege of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, and off Formosa (now Taiwan) during the several Quemoy-Matsu Crises. It also conducted limited operations over Laos in 1962 and 1964 before the commitment of U.S. combat forces to the Vietnam War.
During the Vietnam War, Task Force 77 conducted carrier strike operations from the Gulf of Tonkin and South China Sea for nine years, from 1964 to 1973. Twenty-one of the Navy's 23 operational carriers made at least one cruise with the Task Force and served over 9,100 days on the line.
