Karl Stefanovic goes public with new girlfriend

Months after announcing his split from his wife of 21 years, Today host Karl Stefanovic is photographed sailing in Sydney with new girlfriend Jasmine Yarbrough.

Waiting for him was his new girlfriend Jasmine Yarbrough who joined a small group of friends on Packer's super yacht, according to News Corp.

Stefanovic's disappearing act from the Today show occurred on Thursday morning, but was not announced. It had been business as usual alongside co-host Lisa Wilkinson, but by 7.40am Stefanovic, 42, had vanished and Richard Wilkins was sitting in his spot.

His disappearing act caused concern among viewers and shock for his family.

"It was a surprise he decided to take this week off when he will have the children the very next week during school holidays," a family friend told Fairfax Media.

It's believed the children, Jackson, 17, Ava, 12, and River, 10, will now spend the week with Stefanovic on the road while he works on the Today show.

The kids are usually full-time with Stefanovic's wife of 21 years, Cassandra Thorburn, 46, whom he split from in July last year.

A Nine spokesperson said they knew of Stefanovic's plans to leave midway through the show and added: "Karl is on leave for the next few days ... He will be back on air at the end of next week. Anything planned for the show in the future will, as always, be announced on the show."

Upon leaving the studio, Stefanovic headed straight for Sydney International Airport to catch a flight to New Zealand, then onto Tahiti before he made his way to Packer's 87-metre luxury super vessel, the Arctic P, parked in Povai Bay.

He will spend the week with the casino billionaire in paradise.

It's not the first time this year that he has enjoyed leave from the network.

The week after Stefanovic was spotted kissing Yarbrough for the first time on a yacht in Sydney, he went missing from air. There were suggestions that Nine were in damage control to manage what was happening in his personal life and how it might impact viewers' attitudes towards him and the network. Despite double jobbing in the past, Nine said he was working on another show.

He took time off again in April during Easter school holidays to spend time with Yarbrough, her parents and her brother in Cabo, Mexico, while his family spent the week moving out of their Lindfield family home.

His two-month hiatus over December and January also raised eyebrows, especially at a time when Nine are head-to-head with rival Seven's Sunrise in the ratings.
