8 June 2017 La 61 edición de la Cumbre Regional de la OMT para las Américas aborda la aplicación de las tecnologías al turismo
La Organización Mundial del Turismo (OMT), conjuntamente con el Ministerio de Turismo de El Salvador y el Instituto Hondureño de Turismo de Honduras, han celebrado conjuntamente la Reunión número 61 de la Comisión de la Organización para las Américas. El encuentro, que ha tenido lugar en San Salvador y Roatán los pasados 30 y 31 de mayo respectivamente, ha sido culminado con un Seminario internacional sobre nuevas tecnologías aplicadas al turismo.
7 June 2017 UNWTO and the JTTA partner to foster gastronomy tourism in Japan
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Japan Travel and Tourism Association (JTTA) and Gurunavi Inc. have undersigned an agreement to develop a “UNWTO Affiliate Members Report on Gastronomy Tourism: Japan.” The report will contribute to capitalize the potential of this segment in the Nippon country and add to the existing UNWTO research on gastronomy tourism. 
7 June 2017 UNWTO and CENFOTUR to launch report on ‘Talent Development, Key for Destination Competitiveness’
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and CENFOTUR, the official training center of the Ministry of Tourism in Peru have signed a cooperation agreement to develop a report ‘Talent Development – Key for Destination Competitiveness.” The report will offer an extensive analysis of the importance of capacity building as a determining factor in the success of tourism destinations, with a special focus on Latin America and Peru.

31 May 2017 UNWTO and WTTC present Open Letter to Malta Prime Minister
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) presented the Open Letter on Travel and Tourism to the Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat. The Open Letter outlines tourism’s value as one of the world’s largest generators of jobs and a powerful driver of socio-economic growth and sustainable development. To date, the Open Letter has been received by 89 Heads of State and Government.
26 May 2017 RENFE expresses its commitment to the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism
RENFE, the state-owned company responsible for providing passenger and freight rail transport services in Spain, has formalized its commitment to the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The entity, which is part of the Ministry of Public Works, made public its commitment in an official ceremony held at the UNWTO headquarters in Madrid. 
23 May 2017 The International Year of Sustainable Tourism joins the EcoRun
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has signed an agreement at its Madrid headquarters to support the Carrera por el Medio Ambiente (Race for the Environment), also known as the “EcoRun”. The event, holding its seventh edition in 2017, will take place on 4 June at Madrid’s Casa de Campo. 
22 May 2017 On the International Day for Biological Diversity UNWTO announces a training on tourism and biodiversity in West and Central Africa
The Convention on Biological Diversity of the United Nations has chosen ‘Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism’ as the theme for the International Day for Biological Diversity, celebrated today 22 May 2017. On this occasion, UNWTO is launching a capacity building programme on sustainable tourism and biodiversity protection, to be implemented in West and Central Africa. 
18 May 2017 UNWTO Commission for Asia and the Pacific meets in Bangladesh
In 2016, Asia and the Pacific received 309 million international tourist arrivals, 9% more than in 2015; by 2030 this number is expected to reach 535 million. Over 20 countries gathered in Bangladesh on 16-17 May for the 29th joint meeting of the UNWTO Commissions for Asia and the Pacific and South Asia, to discuss challenges facing the sector in the region, opportunities for sustainable tourism development and the programme of work of UNWTO in Asia for the coming two years.
18 May 2017 UNWTO Secretary-General, Mr. Taleb Rifai, expresses the condolences of the Organization to the family of Mr. Rajesh Rawat, who passed away on Saturday, 13 May after a long international career
Director of the India Tourist Office in Paris and subsequently at the Geneva office in the 1960s, Mr. Rawat then became the Delegate of the South Asia Travel Commission from 1962 to 1963. In 1968 he joined the Working Group of the IUOTO Executive Committee and was influential in the transformation of IUOTO’s status into an intergovernmental organization. Following the nomination of Robert Lonati as UNWTO Secretary-General in May 1975, Mr. Rawat  was appointed Deputy-Secretary-General-- the first in UNWTO's history and a post he held from April 1976 until December 1989.
