Kara David

Kara Patria David (born September 12, 1973) is a Filipino journalist and television host. She is the news anchor of News to Go at GMA Network, as well as a host and writer for i-Witness. She recently began hosting Power House. She is founder and president of Project Malasakit, a foundation that helps the people she has featured in her documentaries.

David was the only woman named in 2007’s Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award. In 2010, she was awarded the Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS award). David won the Peabody Award, the second Filipino to win this award.

Biography

Kara Patria David was born on September 12, 1973 to Professor Emeritus Randy David of the University of the Philippines Diliman and former Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission Karina Constantino-David. She graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines, Diliman with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communication. She then worked as a production assistant and researcher for GMA Network in 1995. She was promoted as writer/researcher for the program “Emergency” and hosted “Huling Hirit”, a regular two-minute segment in the daily news doing adventure-oriented and inspiring features.

David

David (/ˈdeɪvɪd/; Hebrew: דָּוִד, Modern David, Tiberian Dāwîḏ;ISO 259-3 Dawid; Arabic: داوُد‎ Dāwūd; Syriac: ܕܘܝܕ‎ Dawid; Ancient Greek: Δαυίδ; Latin: Davidus, David; Strong's: Daveed) was, according to the Books of Samuel, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel, and according to the New Testament, an ancestor of Jesus. His life is conventionally dated to c. 1040 – 970 BCE, his reign over Judah c. 1010–970 BCE.

The Books of Samuel, 1 Kings, and 1 Chronicles are the only Old Testament sources of information on David, although the Tel Dan Stele (dated c. 850–835 BCE) contains the phrase בית דוד (bytdwd), read as "House of David", which many scholars confirm to be a likely plausible match to the existence in the mid-9th century BCE of a Judean royal dynasty called the House of David.

Depicted as a valorous warrior of great renown, and a poet and musician credited for composing much of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms, King David is widely viewed as a righteous and effective king in battle and civil justice. He is described as a man after God's own heart in 1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22.

GMA News TV

GMA News TV (informally abbreviated GNTV or simply News TV) is a television network in the Philippines and it is co-owned and operated by GMA Network Inc. and ZOE Broadcasting Network Inc./ZOE-TV of Jesus Is Lord Church leader Eddie Villanueva. GNTV's content, ranging from news and public affairs programs along with other programs - current affairs programming, entertainment, reality, drama, comedy, series, movie blockbuster, lifestyle, sports programs - is provided by GMA's subsidiary Citynet Network Marketing and Productions, Inc., which in turn has an airtime agreement as the main content provider of ZOE-TV since 2005.

The network debuted on February 28, 2011 as a replacement for its former national network "Q"— as such it is broadcast by all television service providers and terrestrial stations which formerly carried Q. Its broadcast facilities for studios are located at the 22/F Strata 2000 Building, Emerald Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City and GMA Network Center, EDSA corner Timog Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City with transmitter is located at Tandang Sora, Barangay Culiat, Quezon City.

GMA News and Public Affairs

GMA News and Public Affairs (commonly GMA News; formerly RBS News Department, GMA Radio-Television News and GMA Rainbow Satellite News) is the news and public affairs programming division of the media conglomerate, GMA Network Inc.

It produces news, public affairs, infotainment, and lately, entertainment programs for all GMA Network and GMA News TV owned and affiliated television and radio stations in the Philippines, and internationally through GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International. GMA News and Public Affairs is currently headed by Marissa Flores. It is headquartered at the Ground Floor of GMA Network Center in Quezon City.

History

News division

The GMA News division traces its origin from the Republic Broadcasting System, established by Robert Stewart in 1959. Programming of its radio station, DZBB depended on mostly news reports. The station covered the eruption of Mt. Hibok-Hibok in 1951 and the election and death of the Former President Ramon Magsaysay. While RBS Channel 7 was established in 1961, it was in the 1970s that GMA became one of the most-watched television news source in the country. In 1983, Channel 7 was the first to break the news of Ninoy Aquino's death and later would be the only television station to broadcast his funeral. The channel also became the first station to broadcast the Ramos-Enrile break-away that led to the People Power Revolution (otherwise known as EDSA Revolution).

Howie Severino

Horacio "Howie" Severino (born July 18, 1961) is a Filipino journalist and has worked in print, television, and online media.

Background

Education

Howie Severino says he has wanted to be a journalist ever since he was in fifth grade. He graduated from Tufts University in Massachusetts with a History degree, magna cum laude, and received his master's degree from University of Sussex in UK in Environment, Development, and Policy.

As a college student in Boston in the early 1980s, he got to know then exile Ninoy Aquino. After Aquino's assassination in 1983, Severino returned home to teach at his alma mater Ateneo High School, and join the anti-Marcos movement. He was arrested on the same day as Lino Brocka and Behn Cervantes and detained for eight days in Fort Bonifacio, which was at the time a dreaded army camp and not yet the high-end real estate development hub that it is today.

Career

Severino started as a newspaper reporter and magazine writer in 1988; became a co-founder of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ); established himself as a leading documentary filmmaker; and, in 2009, was named Editor-in-Chief of GMA News Online, GMA Network's news website. He stepped down in 2014 after five years, and was appointed GMA Network's Vice President for Professional Development in May 2014.
