Hollow Hand - Ancestral Lands on Ongakubaka Records!!

Thrilled to announce that next up on our humble little label is the stellar debut album from British psych-folk artist Hollow Hand!

Hollow Hand is a group based in London. The music is recorded at home in various low budget studios and at ‘Cosmic Ocean’, the band’s rehearsal space (essentially a glorified shed at the bottom of a garden). After gathering the talents and limited equipment of 4 like-minded friends, the band were able to record their first music; the ‘Ancestral Lands’ album. The band’s songwriter Max explains: “We listen to lots of different music but I would say that these songs and productions are influenced by the music I was listening to whilst writing; electric folk and records of the late 60s/early 70s (the first two Steeleye Span records, Fairport Convention, Iain Matthews, Gene Clark etc), married perhaps with a little progressive rock. I produced this music myself and have become fascinated by the sounds and atmospheres which bands are able to create with their records, something which catches your ear the moment the track begins.”

We completely fell in love with these gorgeous tunes on first listen, and we think you will too. If you're looking to fill the void left behind by Fleet Foxes, or are a fan of the 1970's British folk scene, this is the album for you. Limited to 100 copies, the crystal clear cassettes are available to pre-order over at our bandcamp and will be shipping out January 8th!

The Snuggalos - Hocus Opus

It's Halloween! Actually, I'm not very excited about it at all this year, but this record helped get me in the mood. A fun lo-fi throwback record that sounds like it could have come out of the Elephant Six Collective and would be great any time of the year. Download the whole thing for $1.

OUT NOW! The Tailbreakers - s/t

The 5th release on Ongakubaka Records is here! Stream it in full and grab a tape or digital copy over at our bandcamp, and be sure to check out the new video for their psychedelic cabaret single, "Rooster Call", below.

“Some sweet garage rock drenched with a little bit of surf. [The Tailbreakers] could be a very cool lost nugget from ’66…” – 50Third and 3rd

“Fueled by fuzzed out wha-wha guitars and a swagger filled rhythm section these guys sound like something straight out of "Easy Rider". The smooth sounding vocals are nothing short of stellar and bring to mind The Small Faces, Lemon Pipers and The Morning Dew.” – Custom Made Music

“The Tailbreakers have a great sparse, classic Garage Rock sound that you will dig if you like the Nuggets/Pebbles era bands.” – Thee Psychedelicatessen

Sheraf - 12" Maxi-Single

Amazing brooding psych out of France. Quality tunes pressed on, and surrounded by, quality materials. Limited to only 200 copies on 180g vinyl and encased in a heavy black paper screen-printed with silver ink, this Six Tonnes De Chair Records' release is the most representative of the label's mantra of "MAKE LITTLE MAKE GOOD". If you dig the dark trance of The Blue Angel Lounge or anything on Fuzz Club Records, you're going to love Sheraf's sound. Grab a copy of the vinyl before it's too late over at bandcamp.

Mankid - Mankid 1

Brutal dueling electronics/percussion à la Mindflayer. In other words, it definitely sounds like it could have been a product of Fort Thunder and they'd fit in nicely with the rest of the Load Records lineup. This is METAL in the most literal sense of the word. The 3 track cassette EP, limited to 50, as well as the name your price download, are available via bandcamp.

The Tailbreakers - s/t on Ongakubaka Records!

Next up on Ongakubaka Records is the debut release from The Tailbreakers! Still riding the sonic wave of the electric 60's, the 4-piece band formed in 2014 in Toronto, Canada, delivers its audience the pioneering sounds of underground dance-to rock and roll, garage-beat and psychedelia. The Tailbreakers' self-titled album recalls the vintage days of analog, live-off-the-floor recording techniques and reintroduces the listener to familiar tape hiss, slap-back echoes and reel to reel's warm, all-natural compression. Stream two of the tracks below and head over to bandcamp to pre-order a copy of the limited edition red tinted cassettes. Tapes will be shipping out 9/26!

The lead single, "Electric Monkey", is available as a free download via bandcamp. Hope you enjoy, and be sure to check out the hip to trip video below!

The Diamond Center - Crystals for the Brass Empire

The former Richmond, VA beloveds, now residing in Austin, TX, are back with a fresh full-length that is easily their best work to date, and it sounds as though their "southern gothic" take on the psych genre has reached full bloom. Sinister yet enticing. Dark yet brightly burning beneath the hot desert sun. Can't recommend this one enough. The tri-label limited vinyl release is available to order through EggHunt Records/Funny/Not Funny Records/Steady Sounds.

Super Luxury - Ten Solid Years of Applause

Amazing fist-pumping riffage out of Leeds, and quite possibly some of the noisiest tunes you'll hear this year. Turn this one up at your next party to clear out the stiffs and find out who's truly worth your time. Can't recommend it enough. Stream it up. Buy it up. Fuck shit up.

The Soviet Space Programme - Space is Hell

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be a Soviet astronaut and victim of a botched rocket launch that sends you spiraling into the never-ending abyss with no hope of survival? Yeah, me too. This is a nicely executed concept album, and easily one of the more intriguing noise tapes I've heard in a really long time. Winding layers of heavy feedback supported by NASA beeps and other space mission audio that creates the completely hopeless and isolating experience you've all been waiting for. The beautiful cassette, limited to 50, is still available through bandcamp.

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Travelling Wave - T-Wave

Dark female-led psych/shoegaze out of Brazil that may cause crossed eyes and diminished motor control as the low hum backing many of these tracks gradually burrows into the cerebrum. It seems I won't be leaving this couch any time soon. Cassette is limited to only 25 copies through fellow blog/label Hologram Skies. Grab a copy over at their bandcamp asap.

The Bats Pajamas - No Hello

Toronto's The Bats Pajamas are back with a new and incredibly scuzzy full-length record to soundtrack your next scat party. Chunky rhythms, casual vocals, and a level of distortion just short of Brainbombs. Duck Duck Grey Duck/Magic & Naked - Split 7''

Got a chance to give the newest release from our friends at Six Tonnes De Chair Records a spin. It's a split 7" featuring two excellent Swiss bands that couldn't have been better matched to share a release. Magic & Naked kick off the A-side with a wandering desert drifting tune featuring an Old West riff à la Spindrift. Duck Duck Grey Duck's B-side completes the journey by reaching just beyond the distant mirage with a hallucinatory reverb-soaked jam session to lose your mind to. Both tracks require an immediate second spin through, at the very least. Grab a copy of the 7", limited to 200 (100 green/100 blue), via the STDC bandcamp.

VIDEO: Jacco Gardner - Find Yourself

Really digging the new video for the first single from Jacco's upcoming album, Hypnophobia. It appears his sound has leaped forward a decade, leaving behind the sunny 60s psychedelia of his debut LP for a more hypnotic 70s horror movie soundtrack vibe. Can't wait to hear the rest of the record. Order the 7" or LP over at Polyvinyl Records.

Guerra Despues de la Fiesta - HIERRO MUERE

Can't get enough of Spain's Guerra Despues de la Fiesta (or G.D.D.L.F.) right now. Definitely a darker take on eastern influnced psych. Some of the tracks seem to barely hold it together as the other instruments weave and tumble around the varied percussion, but other tracks fall into some pretty epic grooves that you'll never want to end. Should definitely be listened to front to back. Oh yeah, and it's pay what you want on bandcamp. Give them your money.
