Police have charged a man who was allegedly at the centre of a tense police standoff on Friday.
Negotiators and armed officers were called to Toogoolawah, about 100 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, after police said a man barricaded himself inside a house.
An emergency was declared about 9.15am, with residents of the township asked to stay inside as a 500-metre exclusion zone was established and the local school put into lock-down.
However, police later stormed the house only to find it empty, which triggered a search of the area. A man was found in a nearby paddock and taken into custody about 3.45pm.
A 25-year-old Zillmere man was charged with attempted armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of ammunition.
Police were initially called to the residence to speak to the man in relation to an alleged failed carjacking in Ipswich earlier that day. He was also charged over an alleged car theft on Thursday in Gundiah on the Fraser Coast.
A Queensland police spokesman said officers had taken a gun and ammunition from the Toogoolawah home as evidence following the standoff.
Bellambi Street resident Matt Hewitt said he heard about the alleged failed carjacking through social media and didn't believe such an incident could happen in such a "small, quiet country town".
"I walked out the front of my house and there they were, a load of cops across the street," he said. "It was all happening outside my house."
Mr Hewitt said there were between 20 and 30 officers outside his house during the day, including specialist police wearing body armour and carrying assault rifles.
