Family in mourning after two die in crash on Auckland highway
A family is mourning their "amazing little bro" after two people died and another was seriously injured in a car crash on Dairy Flat Highway in north Auckland on Saturday morning.
Both of the dead were travelling in the same car, while the single occupant of the other car was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Tributes are flowing online for the two young men who died.
A family spokesperson of one of the men said family knew little surrounding the accident.
"We actually don't know much more than what has been posted [by the media]."
The family did not want to comment further until they had time to find out more, the spokesperson said.
One family member took to social media to pay tribute to his 18-year-old brother.
"We feel it is time to let everyone know, between 1am and 2am this morning my beautiful, amazing little bro was taken from us.
"Rest in paradise my little bro you are the most loving, caring, and kind hearted young boy ever and I can't believe you are gone, you are the most amazing little bro I could ever ask for, I love you more than I can ever explain, your going to be missed bro RIP," the post read.
Other messages to the two young men included: "Rest in peace boys", "Fly High my brother", and "Rest easy bro ... you will be missed, sad to see you gone way too soon".
Emergency services were notified at 1.10am.
The two cars collided on the highway, between Green and Jeffs roads.
Silverdale Volunteer Fire Brigade station officer Daniel Capon said fire crews from Silverdale, Albany and Takapuna had been dispatched to the accident.
"Upon our arrival we were faced with a pretty serious scene, where unfortunately two people lost their lives. It was a pretty serious crash," he said.
The road has reopened and the serious crash unit is investigating.
