Carl Vinson (November 18, 1883 – June 1, 1981) was a United States Representative from Georgia. He was a Democrat and served for more than 50 years in the United States House of Representatives. He was known as "The Father of the Two-Ocean Navy".
Vinson was born in Fulton County, Georgia, attended Georgia Military College, and graduated with a law degree from Mercer University in 1902. He was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1908. After losing a third term following redistricting, he was appointed judge of the Baldwin County court, but following the sudden death of Senator Augustus Bacon, Representative Thomas W. Hardwick of Georgia's 10th congressional district was nominated to fill Bacon's Senate seat and Vinson announced his candidacy for Hardwick's seat in Congress. Vinson won over three opponents. He was the youngest member of Congress (30 years old) when he was sworn in on November 3, 1914.
USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is the third United States Navy Nimitz-class supercarrier and is named after Carl Vinson, a Congressman from Georgia, in recognition of his contributions to the US Navy. The ship was launched in 1980, undertook its maiden voyage in 1983, and underwent Refueling and Overhaul between 2005 and 2009. Carl Vinson's callsign is "Gold Eagle".
Besides deployments in Operation Desert Strike, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Southern Watch, and Operation Enduring Freedom, the Carl Vinson was involved in a number of notable events. The body of Osama bin Laden was disposed of in 2011 from the deck of the Carl Vinson, and that same year, on Veterans Day, it played host to the first NCAA basketball game on an aircraft carrier, between North Carolina and Michigan State.
A member of the United States House of Representatives for fifty years, Carl Vinson was, for twenty-nine years, the Chairman of the House Naval Affairs and Armed Services Committee; Vinson was the principal sponsor of the so-called "Vinson Acts," culminating in the Two-Ocean Navy Act of 1940, which provided for the massive Naval shipbuilding effort in World War II.
Vinson may refer to:
A carrier strike group (CSG) is an operational formation of the United States Navy. It is composed of roughly 7,500 personnel, an aircraft carrier, at least one cruiser, a destroyer squadron of at least two destroyers and/or frigates, and a carrier air wing of 65 to 70 aircraft. A carrier strike group also, on occasion, includes submarines, attached logistics ships and a supply ship. The carrier strike group commander operationally reports to the commander of the numbered fleet, who is operationally responsible for the area of waters in which the carrier strike group is operating.
Carrier strike groups comprise a principal element of U.S. power projection capability. Previously referred to as Carrier Battle Groups (a term still used by other nations), they are often referred to by the carrier they are associated with (e.g., Enterprise Strike Group). There are currently 10 carrier strike groups.
The carrier strike group is a flexible naval force that can operate in confined waters or in the open ocean, during day and night, in all weather conditions. The principal role of the carrier and its air wing within the carrier strike group is to provide the primary offensive firepower, while the other ships provide defense and support. These roles are not exclusive, however. Other ships in the strike group sometimes undertake offensive operations (launching cruise missiles, for instance) and the carrier's air wing contributes to the strike group's defense (through combat air patrols and airborne anti-submarine efforts). Thus, from a command and control perspective, carrier strike groups are combat organized by mission rather than by platform.
The Ohio class is a class of nuclear-powered submarines currently used by the United States Navy. The navy has 18 Ohio-class submarines: 14 ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) and four that were later converted to guided missile submarines (SSGN).
The Ohio class is named after the lead submarine of this class, USS Ohio. The 14 Trident II SSBNs together carry approximately fifty percent of the total US active inventory of strategic thermonuclear warheads. Although the Trident missiles have no pre-set targets when the submarines go on patrol, the warships, when required, are capable of quickly being assigned targets by using secure and constant radio communications links at sea, including very low frequency (VLF) systems.
All the Ohio-class submarines, except for USS Henry M. Jackson, are named for U.S. states, which until that point was a tradition reserved for battleships and cruisers.
The Ohio-class submarines are the largest submarines ever built for the U.S. Navy. Two classes of the Russian Navy's submarines have larger total displacements: the Soviet-designed Typhoon-class submarines have more than twice the total displacement, and Russia's Borei-class submarines have roughly 25 percent greater displacement, but the Ohio-class boats carry more missiles than either: 24 Trident missiles per boat, versus 16 missiles for the Borei class (20 for the Borei II) and 20 for the Typhoon class.

Genres: ,INTRODUCTION: The United States has deployed the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson to the disputed waters of the South China Sea as part of maritime "routine operations." But in the current scenario, the deployment can be called anything but routine. China has a long history of maritime disputes with its South China Sea neighbors. It claims almost all of the South China Sea, including islands more than 800 miles (~1300 km) from the Chinese mainland, despite objections from neighbors such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Vietnam. Beijing has also created artificial islands in the area, outfitting some of them with military features. According to the US, China has reclaimed more than 3,000 acres in the Spratly Islands since 2014. Though the US takes no position on the territorial ...
Carrier Strike Group USS Carl Vinson Patrol In South China Sea Update SOUTH CHINA SEA (NNS) -- Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1, including Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 1's Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108), and aircraft from Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2, began routine operations in the South China Sea, Feb. 18. Prior to their operations in the South China Sea, ships and aircraft from within the strike group conducted training off the islands of Hawaii and Guam to maintain and improve their readiness and develop cohesion as a strike group. The strike group recently enjoyed a port visit to Guam and after departing the Marianas, conducted operations in the Philippine Sea. "The training completed over t...
USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Carrier Strike Group in Action USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) is deployed during composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) 2016 off the coast of Southern California. Composite Training Unit Exercise, is a rehearsal each US Navy Carrier Strike Group performs before departing for deployment. Each ship and aircraft in the battle group trains in its specialty; COMPTUEX brings ships together to project force as a battle group. COMPTUEX is an intermediate-level battle group exercise designed to forge together the battle group and its components into a fully functional fighting team. COMPTUEX is a critical part in the pre-deployment training cycle, and a prerequisite for the battle group's Joint Task Force Exercise. COMPTUEX is normally conducted during a two-week to three...

INTRODUCTION: On April 10 the US Navy’s Carl Vinson strike group suddenly changed course from Australia to the Korean Peninsula amid concerns that North Korea could soon conduct its 6th nuclear test or more missile launches. USS Carl Vinson is one of the most powerful weapons platform in the world, being 3 football fields long, having a displacement of 100000 tonnes, and is capable of carrying more than 60 strike aircrafts. It must be noted that, USS Carl Vinson is not alone, but it leads the US Navy Carrier Strike Group One. It is accompanied by other vessels including an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, the USS Wayne E Meyer (DDG 108). Arleigh Burke class is considered to be one of the most potent destroyers in the world. It is also expected to be accompanied by 1 or ...

INTRODUCTION: The USS Carl Vinson super carrier has been in news all over and rightly so. The massive carrier is symbol of US clout and projects power far beyond the US mainland. The carrier has an air wing, which is more powerful than the entire air force of most nations. The US has 10 of these Nimitz class carriers. But is there something in US arsenal, which is even more potent than the mighty USS Carl Vinson? Here we are taking about the Ohio class Ballistic Missile Submarines (SSBN). The U S navy has 18 Ohio-class submarines, 14 ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) and 4 that were later converted to guided missile submarines (SSGN). In this video, Defense Updates analyses the two platforms and compares them on the basis of 5 important characteristics. RANGE/ENDURANCE/SPEED: Both...
USS Carl Vinson to Spend 30 Extra Days on Deployment to Korea The USS Carl Vinson will spend an extra 30 days on deployment in order to patrol the waters off the Korean Peninsula, the ship's commander announced late Tuesday night. Rear Adm. Jim Kilby, commander of Carrier Strike Group One, said in a Facebook post that the Carl Vinson will spend an extra 30 days at sea in order to "provide a persistent presence" near North Korea. "Our mission is to reassure allies and our partners of our steadfast commitment to the Indo-Asia-Pacific region," Kilby wrote. "We will continue to be the centerpiece of visible maritime deterrence, providing our national command authority with flexible deterrent options, all domain access, and a visible forward presence."

The US has rerouted several warships towards the region, after North Korea fired a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan. The Carl Vinson strike group, which includes a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, was initially meant to be heading to Australia. Its new route is seen as a show of strength by the US, which is also putting pressure on regional powers. President Trump has spoken to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe about countering threats from Pyongyang. And Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says China has agreed that action must be taken. To what lengths will Washington go, to removing a potential threat?

Deixa eu lembrar de você
Da maneira que eu se lembrar
Não tente mais me convencer
O nosso amor não foi tão vulgar
Nunca esperei de você
Nem mesmo podia esperar
Que você pudesse entender
Tudo que eu queria te dar
Um bye-bye, um tchau
É ponto final
Mas quem sabe um dia
Frente a frente
A gente ainda vai se encontrar
Uma história de amor
Não acaba assim
Se não foi bom pra você
Foi tão bom pra mim
Uma história de amor
Não tem sim nem não
E nem se pode explicar
Numa simples canção
O meu coração quer saber
Por que que a gente sonha demais
Se ontem foi romance e prazer
Hoje amanheceu tão fulgaz
Um bye-bye, um tchau
É ponto final
Mas quem sabe um dia
Frente a frente
A gente ainda vai se encontrar
Uma história de amor
Não acaba assim
Se não foi bom pra você
Foi tão bom pra mim
Uma história de amor
Não tem sim nem não
E nem se pode explicar
