I've loved film for as long as I can remember. Initially, screenwriting was my interest; however, I wanted to see my ideas come to life beyond the writing. This led to a desire to acquire the skills needed to actually produce my own projects. So, I embarked upon the journey of studying and learning as much about the filmmaking process as I possibly could by attending film school, workshops, and anything else I could find.
First and foremost, I consider myself an activist, so I'm drawn to human issues and subjects that enlighten and uplift humanity while challenging us to examine our ideals and issues on this planet. I've always been drawn to documentary filmmaking, particularly as an activist. It's a powerful way to communicate with an audience.
When I chose to do the Sean Bell film, I was extremely disturbed by the verdict and wanted to hear from the children, particularly young black boys, about their thoughts, fears and concerns regarding violence against black men. Most of the topics that interest me are those that give a voice to those often unheard populations of people, who indeed have stories to tell and victories to celebrate.
One thing that I've learned is that life is what it is—meaning, everything we do and experience is connected. Often, we try to compartmentalize our lives and deal with different aspects of our experience (be it our personal lives, our career, etc.). Filmmaking, for me, is a spiritual process and journey. I've been prepared through life experiences, for each and every topic I choose to explore.
So, my advice to any aspiring filmmaker would be to live your life with integrity, take care of yourself, learn as much about your craft as possible, commit to creating the life you desire and expect the universe to grant you everything you ask.

It took nearly 10 years, but a Queens bride whose groom was killed by cops on their wedding day said she is finally able to move on with her life.
Nicole Paultre-Bell, 32, whose fiancé, Sean Bell, was killed Nov. 25, 2006 in a 50-shot fusillade outside a Jamaica strip club after his bachelor party, said she has let go of anger and bitterness that consumed her for years.
“I have come to a place of acceptance over the 10 years,” Paultre-Bell told the Daily News. “This thing will really kill you if you let it. The bitterness, it’s like cancer. It eats away at you.”

The Sean Bell shooting incident took place in the New York City borough of Queens, New York, United States, on November 25, 2006, when three men were shot a total of fifty times by a team of both plainclothes and undercover NYPD officers, killing Sean Bell on the morning before his wedding, and severely wounding two of his friends, Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman. The incident sparked fierce criticism of the police from members of the public and drew comparisons to the 1999 killing of Amadou Diallo. Three of the five detectives involved in the shooting went to trial on charges of first and second-degree manslaughter, first and second-degree assault, and second-degree reckless endangerment, and were found not guilty.
Background
Sean Bell was born on May 18, 1983. He was 23 at the time of his death. He was a nephew of the current University of Tulsa basketball coach, Frank Haith. He pitched baseball for John Adams High School in Ozone Park, and in his senior year he had an 11-0 record, with a 2.30 E.R.A. and 97 strikeouts in 62.2 innings. He also studied acting in Flushing, Queens. Bell held odd jobs after the birth of his daughter, Jada, on December 16, 2002. His fiancee, Nicole Paultre, told Larry King that Bell was studying to be an electrician and was unemployed when the shooting occurred.

Bell
A bell is a simple idiophone percussion instrument. Although bells come in many forms, most are made of metal cast in the shape of a hollow cup, whose sides form a resonator which vibrates in a single tone upon being struck. The strike may be made by a "clapper" or "uvula" suspended within the bell, by a separate mallet or hammer, or—in small bells—by a small loose sphere enclosed within the body of the bell.
Bells are usually made by casting metal, but small bells can also be made from ceramic or glass. Bells range in size from tiny dress accessories to church bells 5 metres tall, weighing many tons. Historically, bells were associated with religious rituals, and before mass communication were widely used to call communities together for both religious and secular events. Later, bells were made to commemorate important events or people and have been associated with the concepts of peace and freedom. The study of bells is called campanology.
A set of bells, hung in a circle for change ringing, is known as a ring or peal of bells.

One thing that I've learned is that life is what it is—meaning, everything we do and experience is connected. Often, we try to compartmentalize our lives and deal with different aspects of our experience (be it our personal lives, our career, etc.). Filmmaking, for me, is a spiritual process and journey. I've been prepared through life experiences, for each and every topic I choose to explore.
So, my advice to any aspiring filmmaker would be to live your life with integrity, take care of yourself, learn as much about your craft as possible, commit to creating the life you desire and expect the universe to grant you everything you ask.

I've loved film for as long as I can remember. Initially, screenwriting was my interest; however, I wanted to see my ideas come to life beyond the writing. This led to a desire to acquire the skills needed to actually produce my own projects. So, I embarked upon the journey of studying and learning as much about the filmmaking process as I possibly could by attending film school, workshops, and anything else I could find.
First and foremost, I consider myself an activist, so I'm drawn to human issues and subjects that enlighten and uplift humanity while challenging us to examine our ideals and issues on this planet. I've always been drawn to documentary filmmaking, particularly as an activist. It's a powerful way to communicate with an audience.
When I chose to do the Sean Bell film, I was extremely disturbed by the verdict and wanted to hear from the children, particularly young black boys, about their thoughts, fears and concerns regarding violence against black men. Most of the topics that interest me are those that give a voice to those often unheard populations of people, who indeed have stories to tell and victories to celebrate.

Nicole Paultre-Bell, 32, whose fiancé, Sean Bell, was killed Nov. 25, 2006 in a 50-shot fusillade outside a Jamaica strip club after his bachelor party, said she has let go of anger and bitterness that consumed her for years.
“I have come to a place of acceptance over the 10 years,” Paultre-Bell told the Daily News. “This thing will really kill you if you let it. The bitterness, it’s like cancer. It eats away at you.”

Michael begins tonight's program by saying that lately its been feeling like the end of days. Then we are introduced to tonight's guest, Marshall Masters. They get right into the topics of nuclear war and Ed Dames before Marshall tells us a little bit about his background. He explains that because of his travel business he got to fly the arctic route and actually see the curvature of the earth. This led him to "Planet X."

Marshall believes that we are living in a binary star system, our sun being one and Planet X being the other. He tells us about Nemesis, a small brown dwarf sun at the heart of the Planet X mini-constellation. He touches on the research of Dr. Robert S. Harrington, chief astronomer of the US Naval Observatory, who died before he could publicize his findings on Planet X. Marshall says the Washington Post brutally humiliated the astronomers involved.
Regarding his time at CNN, Marshall says it was an honor to work for them back then, but these days they should just call themselves the Cartoon News Network.

I've loved film for as long as I can remember. Initially, screenwriting was my interest; however, I wanted to see my ideas come to life beyond the writing. First and foremost, I consider myself an activist, so I'm drawn to human issues and subjects that enlighten and uplift humanity while challenging us to examine our ideals and issues on this planet. I've always been drawn to documentary filmmaking, particularly as an activist. It's a powerful way to communicate with an audience.
When I chose to do the Sean Bell film, I was extremely disturbed by the verdict and wanted to hear from the children, particularly young black boys, about their thoughts, fears and concerns regarding violence against black men. Most of the topics that interest me are those that give a voice to those often unheard populations of people, who indeed have stories to tell and victories to celebrate.
One thing that I've learned is that life is what it is—meaning, everything we do and experience is connected. Often, we try to compartmentalize our lives and deal with different aspects of our experience (be it our personal lives, our career, etc.). Filmmaking, for me, is a spiritual process and journey. I've been prepared through life experiences, for each and every topic I choose to explore.
So, my advice to any aspiring filmmaker would be to live your life with integrity, take care of yourself, learn as much about your craft as possible, commit to creating the life you desire and expect the universe to grant you everything you ask.

I am seeking re-election to the Local Station Board with the WBAI Justice and Unity Campaign (www.justiceunity.org). I have been a human rights activist for most of my adult life, believing in the need for the Black community to aggressively build institutions and alliances that strengthen our struggle for human rights. Ive been privileged to be a guest on various WBAI programs to get out the word. As a strong supporter of the station, I stood up against the infamous "Christmas Coup" in 2000 that tried to co-opt the station into corporate/mainstream politics. I spoke around the city to keep WBAI an independent voice against all forms of oppression, corruption, and racism.
Now WBAI faces a different threat -- opposition board members who use vicious rumor-mongering and unsubstantiated charges of corruption and incompetence to chip away at the hard-won inclusion of strong Black community advocates in station management and programming. Justice & Unity and I will continue to stand steadfast against this.
I've been a lifelong resident of Southeast Queens. I have a Master's in Urban Planning. My professional life has been challenging, having worked 15 years in housing advocacy and 11 years at a major NYC hospital, first focusing on youth internships and now human resources.
But my most rewarding experiences come from my commitment to empower the Black community in attaining all our human rights. I was a key organizer for U.S. Black participation in several international conferences: World Conference Against Racism (South Africa); United Nations Women's Conference (China); African Union (Ethiopia); and nationally, National Rally for Reparations (D.C.) Ive worked to get justice for the murder of Sean Bell, an unarmed Black youth shot 50 times by police. I was an organizer of the September 11, 2007 Day of Outrage Against Police Terrorism, which targeted general police terror against the Black community and in particular supported Evelyn and Michael Tarif Warren, two Black lawyers brutalized by the police. Im a member of the December 12th Movement, Millions for Reparations, Black Mens Movement Against Crack, and the community Put the Guns Down Campaign, which seeks to stop the crisis of youth killings within the Black community.
I support the Justice and Unity Campaign's determined struggle for the soul of WBAI's political and cultural future. The Pacifica Mission is a forward-looking vision meant to engage its radio stations in a continual struggle to evaluate their relevancy to the battles for justice, equality, and economic progress. Particularly in a time when war, intolerance, racism, and the crushing of civil liberties are on the agenda of a small yet powerful few, it's critical that WBAI not be misdirected.

Now WBAI faces a different threat -- opposition board members who use vicious rumor-mongering and unsubstantiated charges of corruption and incompetence to chip away at the hard-won inclusion of strong Black community advocates in station management and programming. Justice & Unity and I will continue to stand steadfast against this.
I've been a lifelong resident of Southeast Queens. I have a Master's in Urban Planning. My professional life has been challenging, having worked 15 years in housing advocacy and 11 years at a major NYC hospital, first focusing on youth internships and now human resources.
But my most rewarding experiences come from my commitment to empower the Black community in attaining all our human rights. I was a key organizer for U.S. Black participation in several international conferences: World Conference Against Racism (South Africa); United Nations Women's Conference (China); African Union (Ethiopia); and nationally, National Rally for Reparations (D.C.) Ive worked to get justice for the murder of Sean Bell, an unarmed Black youth shot 50 times by police. I was an organizer of the September 11, 2007 Day of Outrage Against Police Terrorism, which targeted general police terror against the Black community and in particular supported Evelyn and Michael Tarif Warren, two Black lawyers brutalized by the police. Im a member of the December 12th Movement, Millions for Reparations, Black Mens Movement Against Crack, and the community Put the Guns Down Campaign, which seeks to stop the crisis of youth killings within the Black community.
I support the Justice and Unity Campaign's determined struggle for the soul of WBAI's political and cultural future. The Pacifica Mission is a forward-looking vision meant to engage its radio stations in a continual struggle to evaluate their relevancy to the battles for justice, equality, and economic progress. Particularly in a time when war, intolerance, racism, and the crushing of civil liberties are on the agenda of a small yet powerful few, it's critical that WBAI not be misdirected.
