Barcelona's Montjuïc is a broad shallow hill with a relatively flat top overlooking the harbour, to the southwest of the city centre. The eastern side of the hill is almost a sheer cliff, giving it a commanding view over the city's harbour immediately below. The top of the hill (a height of 184,8 m) was the site of several fortifications, the latest of which (the Castle of Montjuïc remains today. The fortress largely dates from the 17th century, with 18th-century additions. In 1842, the garrison (loyal to the Madrid government) shelled parts of the city. It served as a prison, often holding political prisoners, until the time of General Franco. The castle was also the site of numerous executions. In 1897, an incident popularly known as Els processos de Montjuïc prompted the execution of anarchist supporters, which then led to a severe repression of the workers' struggle for their rights. On different occasions during the Spanish Civil War, both Nationalists and Republicans were executed there, each at the time when the site was held by their opponents. The Catalan nationalist leader Lluís Companys i Jover was also executed there in 1940, having been extradited to the Franco government by the Nazis.

Dirigit i presentat per Lluís Permanyer.
Aquest "Sense ficció" posa al descobert la relació de llunyania i odi que, històricament, Barcelona ha mantingut amb la mítica muntanya, malgrat la seva proximitat física. De la mà de Lluís Permanyer, es descobreix com Montjuïc desperta l'inconscient dels barcelonins en recordar com cada vegada que els ciutadans s'han rebel.lat contra el poder, els canons instal.lats a la muntanya han estat els encarregats de bombardejar-los i el castell els ha empresonat.
Lluís Permanyer guia l'espectador en un viatge històric i apassionant en què dóna les claus per desxifrar per què una relació que va començar com una història d'amor s'acaba transformant en odi i desconfiança. L'escriptor i cronista l'ajudarà a entendre els motius pels quals Montjuïc, geogràficament dins de Barcelona, està psicològicament tan allunyada dels barcelonins, que només s'hi acosten en esdeveniments puntuals.
El documental presenta la metàfora d'una muntanya que al llarg dels segles ha estat l'encarregada de subministrar i bombar la sang que ha alimentat la ciutat, un fet, però, que mai li ha estat reconegut. Si la relació d'amor ha existit, què ha provocat, de manera intermitent, la seva ruptura?
Permanyer mostra els elements que han construït la memòria negativa de Montjuïc, on la figura del castell té un paper determinant. Una imatge amenaçant i sinistra, marcada per alguns dels fets històrics més macabres que ha patit Barcelona: el castell va ser la presó on van tancar i torturar els anarquistes, on van matar Ferrer i Guàrdia i on afusellarien, el 1940, el president Companys.
Pas a pas, Lluís Permanyer fa entendre la cadena de decisions històriques que van permetre que una muntanya amb una situació geogràfica privilegiada es destinés a ubicar-hi tot el que la ciutat volia amagar. Después de varios años viviendo en Barcelona, llegó la hora de cambiar de vida y mudarme a Madrid. Pero antes decidí dar un último paseo por la montaña de Montjuïc, mi lugar favorito para desconectar.
En primer lugar visitamos la feria de turismo de Barcelona llamada Btravel 2015 para después continuar hasta el Estado Olímpico, el Palau Sant Jordi, la Torre Calatrava y el Parque Olímpico de Barcelona 1992.

Montjuïc ou une "montagne" dans la ville de Barcelone (Mont Jovicius en latin). Cette montagne abrite le jardin botanique de Barcelone, le Pueblo Español (Poble Espanyol), les installations des Jeux Olympiques de 1992, le MNAC (Musée d'Art National d'Art de Catalogne), la tour de télécommunications de Santiago Calatrava et le château de Montjuïc (musée militaire). On y accède à pied ou via un funiculaire ou encore en téléphérique. Superbes vues sur le port de Barcelone, la place d'Espagne (plaça de Espanya), les fontaines lumineuses de Gaietà Buïgas construites à l'occasion de l'Exposition universelle de 1929 et la totalité de la ville qui s'étale à ses pieds.

Montjuïc (Catalan pronunciation: [muɲʒuˈik]; Spanish spelling Montjuich) is a hill in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
Etymology
Montjuïc is translated as "Jew Mountain" in medieval Catalan, or is perhaps related to the Latin phrase Mons Jovicus ('hill of Jove'). A location of the same name is also found in the city of Girona. When written in a Spanish rather than Catalan context it is generally spelled Montjuich (this is old Catalan spelling before the orthographic reforms of Pompeu Fabra).

Parc de Montjuïc (Barcelona Metro)
Parc de Montjuïc is the upper station of the Funicular de Montjuïc, which is operated by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) as part of the Barcelona Metro. The station serves the hill of Montjuïc and the various sporting and other facilities there.
The funicular accepts Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM) tickets, and the station therefore has ticket machines and barriers identical to those of all other Barcelona metro stations. The station has twin platforms, one on each side of the terminal track. Because of the gradient at the upper end of the funicular, the stations platforms are stepped, but disabled access is provided to the upper step of the platform.
The funicular station is adjacent to the lower station of the Montjuïc Cable Car, a gondola lift that continues uphill to a terminal near the Montjuïc Castle on the summit of the hill. Whilst operated by the TMB, the cable car does not accept metro ticketing, and passengers must exit one station before entering the other.

Barcelona
Barcelona (/bɑːrsəˈloʊnə/, Catalan: [bəɾsəˈlonə], Spanish: [barθeˈlona]) is the capital city of the autonomous community of Catalonia in Spain and Spain's second most populated city, with a population of 1.6 million within its administrative limits. Its urban area extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of around 4.7 million people, being the seventh-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, Madrid, the Ruhr area, Berlin and Milan. The headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean is located in Barcelona. The city is known for hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics as well as world-class conferences and expositions and also many international sport tournaments.

Barcelona's Montjuïc is a broad shallow hill with a relatively flat top overlooking the harbour, to the southwest of the city centre. The eastern side of the hill is almost a sheer cliff, giving it a commanding view over the city's harbour immediately below. Después de varios años viviendo en Barcelona, llegó la hora de cambiar de vida y mudarme a Madrid. Lluís Permanyer guia l'espectador en un viatge històric i apassionant en què dóna les claus per desxifrar per què una relació que va començar com una història d'amor s'acaba transformant en odi i desconfiança. L'escriptor i cronista l'ajudarà a entendre els motius pels quals Montjuïc, geogràficament dins de Barcelona, està psicològicament tan allunyada dels barcelonins, que només s'hi acosten en esdeveniments puntuals.
El documental presenta la metàfora d'una muntanya que al llarg dels segles ha estat l'encarregada de subministrar i bombar la sang que ha alimentat la ciutat, un fet, però, que mai li ha estat reconegut. Si la relació d'amor ha existit, què ha provocat, de manera intermitent, la seva ruptura?
Permanyer mostra els elements que han construït la memòria negativa de Montjuïc, on la figura del castell té un paper determinant. Una imatge amenaçant i sinistra, marcada per alguns dels fets històrics més macabres que ha patit Barcelona: el castell va ser la presó on van tancar i torturar els anarquistes, on van matar Ferrer i Guàrdia i on afusellarien, el 1940, el president Companys.
Pas a pas, Lluís Permanyer fa entendre la cadena de decisions històriques que van permetre que una muntanya amb una situació geogràfica privilegiada es destinés a ubicar-hi tot el que la ciutat volia amagar. On y accède à pied ou via un funiculaire ou encore en téléphérique. Superbes vues sur le port de Barcelone, la place d'Espagne (plaça de Espanya), les fontaines lumineuses de Gaietà Buïgas construites à l'occasion de l'Exposition universelle de 1929 et la totalité de la ville qui s'étale à ses pieds.

Montjuïc neighborhood film of our series called Barcelona City Guides that feature places to visit, shop and eat to feel like a local. Montjuïc is a mountain with an old military fortress on top (featured in our blog here) with several gardens and parks to get there making it one of our favorite green areas, and also usually one of our favorite photography backgrounds. The most famous building however must be the National Museum, from where you are going to have a wonderful view of our city, and then all the Olympic games stadiums (Barcelona celebrated the games on 1992, quite long ago!). We are not into sports memorabilia, thus we appreciate the mountain to go on a hike or museum hoping. Montjuïc Castle & Views Over Barcelona, Spain - 11th July, 2014
Barcelona's Montjuïc is a broad shallow hill with a relatively flat top overlooking the harbour, to the southwest of the city centre. The eastern side of the hill is almost a sheer cliff, giving it a commanding view over the city's harbour immediately below. The top of the hill (a height of 184,8 m) was the site of several fortifications, the latest of which (the Castle of Montjuïc) remains today. The fortress largely dates from the 17th century, with 18th-century additions. This film features views from the castle over the city of Barcelona and its port below, where the container freight terminal sprawls, and where three cruise ships, the MSC Splendida, Thomson Dream and a Costa cruise ship are berthed.

This week we are exploring another Spanish city. We are in Barcelona and this video is going to highlight 25 things to do here.
It is kind of hard to believe our time in Barcelona has expired. So final thoughts.
Well, it was a really fun city to visit. Great architecture, really nice beaches. It is very lively especially at night. The only downfall is that we were here in the middle of summer so it was super hot and super crowded and sometimes that made it a little bit difficult to enjoy. Especially at midday or in the mid-afternoon. So keep that in mind. Maybe consider visiting in the springtime, fall, winter.
Well, so what did you think of the city?
It is definitely a fun city. We had a lot of fun going to the beaches. One thing that is really different about this city compared to some other European cities though is that it is really spread out. In order for us to visit all of these different attractions we had to chunk them together into groups to visit them day by day. Overall, it was a decent city. It didn't quite click with me the same way that Madrid did. But that is just personal preference I suppose.
And that is a wrap for Barcelona! Our 5 days in the city flew by, and while this guide didn't cover everything, we hope we were able to give you a feel of what this fun seaside city has to offer. Montjuïc neighborhood film of our series called Barcelona City Guides that feature places to visit, shop and eat to feel like a local.
Montjuïc is a mountain with an old military fortress on top (featured in our blog here) with several gardens and parks to get there making it one of our favorite green areas, and also usually one of our favorite photography backgrounds. The most famous building however must be the National Museum, from where you are going to have a wonderful view of our city, and then all the Olympic games stadiums (Barcelona celebrated the games on 1992, quite long ago!). We are not into sports memorabilia, thus we appreciate the mountain to go on a hike or museum hoping.

The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc (Catalan: Font màgica de Montjuïc, Spanish: Fuente mágica de Montjuic) is a fountain located at the head of Avinguda Maria Cristina in the Montjuïc neighborhood of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The fountain is situated below the Palau Nacional on the Montjuïc mountain and near the Plaça d'Espanya and Poble Espanyol de Barcelona. The fountain, like most of the surrounding developments, was constructed for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition.
The Magic Fountain was designed by Carles Buïgas, who had designed illuminated fountains as early as 1922. The site where the fountain was constructed was the previous location of The Four Columns. The columns, representative of the Catalanism movement, were demolished in 1928 under the orders of Prime Minister Miguel Primo de Rivera[1] and were re-erected in 2010 a few meters away from the original location.
Buïgas submitted his design a year before the exhibition, with many calling the plan too ambitious, with too little time to complete. The construction project utilized over 3000 workers. The first show took place on May 19, 1929, the day before the start of the Exposition.The fountain was badly damaged in the Spanish Civil War and did not operate until 1955, after Buigas oversaw needed repairs.
In the 1980s, music was incorporated with the light show and the fountain, along with the Museu Nacional, was completely restored prior to the 1992 Summer Olympics, held at Montjuïc. Performances include film, classical, and modern music, such as The Godfather, The Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, a Spanish zarzuela movement, "Barcelona" by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé, and modern pop songs.Performances take place at half-hour intervals every weekend, with weekends extended during the summer season.

Barcelona was also home to Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion. Designed in 1929 for the International Exposition for Germany, it is an iconic building that came to symbolize modern architecture as the embodiment of van der Rohe's aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details." The Barcelona pavilion was intended as a temporary structure, and was torn down in 1930 less than a year after it was constructed. A modern re-creation by Spanish architects now stands in Barcelona, however, constructed in 1986.
Barcelona won the 1999 RIBA Royal Gold Medal for its architecture,the first (and as of 2015, only) time that the winner has been a city, and not an individual architect.

Palau de la Música Catalana and Hospital de Sant Pau, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, included in the UNESCO Heritage List in 1997.
Works by Antoni Gaudí, including Park Güell, Palau Güell, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Casa Vicens, Sagrada Família (Nativity façade and crypt), Casa Batlló, Crypt in Colonia Güell. The first three works were inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1984. The other four were added as extensions to the site in 2005.

Barcelona was also home to Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion. Designed in 1929 for the International Exposition for Germany, it is an iconic building that came to symbolize modern architecture as the embodiment of van der Rohe's aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details." The Barcelona pavilion was intended as a temporary structure, and was torn down in 1930 less than a year after it was constructed. A modern re-creation by Spanish architects now stands in Barcelona, however, constructed in 1986.
Barcelona won the 1999 RIBA Royal Gold Medal for its architecture,the first (and as of 2015, only) time that the winner has been a city, and not an individual architect.
Minor basilica of Sagrada Família, the international symbol of Barcelona
Palau de la Música Catalana and Hospital de Sant Pau, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, included in the UNESCO Heritage List in 1997.
Works by Antoni Gaudí, including Park Güell, Palau Güell, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Casa Vicens, Sagrada Família (Nativity façade and crypt), Casa Batlló, Crypt in Colonia Güell. The first three works were inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1984. The other four were added as extensions to the site in 2005.

The eastern side of the hill is almost a sheer cliff, giving it a commanding view over the city's harbour immediately below. The top of the hill (a height of 184,8 m) was the site of several fortifications, the latest of which (the Castle of Montjuïc) remains today. The fortress largely dates from the 17th century, with 18th-century additions.
This film features views from the castle over the city of Barcelona and its port below, where the container freight terminal sprawls, and where three cruise ships, the MSC Splendida, Thomson Dream and a Costa cruise ship are berthed.

The fountain is situated below the Palau Nacional on the Montjuïc hill and near the Plaça d'Espanya and Poble Espanyol de Barcelona. The fountain, like most of the surrounding developments, was constructed for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition.
The Magic Fountain was designed by Carles Buigas, who had designed illuminated fountains as early as 1922. The site where the fountain was constructed was the previous location of The Four Columns. The columns, representative of the Catalanism movement, were demolished in 1928 under the rule of Prime Minister Migel Primo de Rivera[1] and were re-erected in 2010 a few meters away from the original location
