Special Thanks to: -Margarida for being such a nice host and provide us with sooo much useful information on Porto. -Natha, Andy and Nala for sharing their bed and rooftop terrace with us. -Julia for being my all night long film critic no.1. -The bus driver who took us home in a rainy night even though we didn't have coins for the ticket. During my two week long trip to Porto in the north of Portugal I stayed first in an AirBnb and then at a friends place, who recently moved there. For a city trip most people would probably chose only a couple of days, but even in a small city (230,000 inhabitants) like Porto there is so much more to experience than the top tourist sights, such as the Dom Luís I Bridge, the old town and the historical tram (which are all stunning btw.). So how do I visit Porto more #likealocal ? - Take some time for your trip (5 days and more) - Ask around if someone knows a local in Porto or check out Couchsurfing or Meetup.com where you can easily connect with people that want to show you around in their city - Book a Hostel, do Couchsurfing or find an non- commercial AirBnb - Check out streets away from the crowds, just follow your instincts. We ended up in a really cool public art space. - Take a bus out of the city. For instance to Pinhão where we took the beautiful boat ride along the vineyards. Check out Gaia beach, too. - Go for lunch to restaurants off the beaten track such as Fabrica N2 https://www.facebook.com/fabricaN2/ - Check out if you find some cool events/concerts at the Time Out Magazine: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOutPorto/ (you can buy the magazine in Porto) - Go to a portuguese market and cook for yourself with locally produced food. Maybe go to a different market than Bolhão market. I had the impression they are a bit fed up with tourists (Only with the ones taking pictures and not buying anything, of course). Find more markets here: http://yoursguesthouse.com/blog/2016/11/22/5-best-markets-near-porto/ - Go for a run in one of Portos great parcs such as: Parc da Cidade - Check out Travelblogs and Co. for special shops such as Vintage Shops or Chocolate shops or places with the best Ice Cream or Coffee.
