A showreel (also known as a demo reel) is a short piece of video or film footage showcasing an actor or presenter's previous work. Usually four to six minutes in length, a showreel typically supplements an artist's résumé and is used to promote the artist's skill, talent, and experience to acting agents and casting directors.
Showreels are commonly used in the entertainment industry in such fields as acting, directing, cinematography, editing, special effects, animation, video games and graphics production. In the case of audio work, showreels may demonstrate the actor's vocal or instrumental talent, arranging abilities or recording and engineering style.
Actors often pay an editor to assemble the bulk of their work into a showreel that can be distributed on DVD. Some actors who do not have any video or film footage may choose to pay a showreel company to produce a reel for them. The showreel company will provide scripts for the actor, film the scenes, and edit them. When a reel contains scenes from actual productions, a shot list or credit list may also be submitted to describe the artist's specific involvement in each portion of the reel. While the usage of video excerpts on such showreels can be regarded as a breach of copyright, it is generally accepted in the film industry as fair use, as it is one of the few tools artists can use to promote their work.
Channel Awesome, Inc. is an online media production company based in Lombard, Illinois. The company was created in 2008 by Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, and Bhargav Dronamraju. Channel Awesome operated the That Guy with the Glasses website (often shortened to TGWTG) until late 2014, when it was replaced by the current Channel Awesome website.
That Guy With The Glasses previously hosted fellow channels by Bar Fiesta beginning in November 2009, Blistered Thumbs beginning in November 2010. As of May 2015, Channel Awesome currently hosts a YouTube channel of the same name with an emphasis on the Walker Brothers' content, as well as the YouTube channel League of Super Critic that includes several of the site's other top producers. All of Channel Awesome's content is hosted by Blip or YouTube.
Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis and Bhargav Dronamraju created Channel Awesome after they were laid off from Circuit City in 2007. The three discussed the idea of such a company while still employed, but their dismissal was the impetus to put their plans into action. Michaud has stated that "If we didn't lose our jobs, [the business] wouldn't have happened anytime soon."
Demo may refer to:
A reel is an object around which lengths of another material (usually long and flexible) are wound for storage. Generally a reel has a cylindrical core and walls on the sides to retain the material wound around the core. In some cases the core is hollow, although other items may be mounted on it, and grips may exist for mechanically turning the reel.
The size of the core is dependent on several factors. A smaller core will obviously allow more material to be stored in a given space. However, there is a limit to how tightly the stored material can be wound without damaging it and this limits how small the core can be.
Other issues affecting the core size include:

This is the most extreme update to my reel that I have ever undertaken. I knew I wanted to do this one right, and release it in the highest quality possible. Instead of working from the edit that built my last 4 reels I archived every single one of my films filling a 64TB raid. I then went back and remastered every single VFX shot in 4K-6K. I made the edit using the original raw files from each project, re-colored everything, and applied a new LUT I recently created that I absolutely love. After changing my mind about the song, and starting over from scratch 5 times, I am now sitting at my desk looking at a completed piece, and I am beyond excited to share it all with you! While primarily focusing on Cinematography for the majority of my career, I am a director and visual effects artist a...

Putting together an outstanding demo reel is a great way to showcase your work as a creative professional -- and it's often a determining factor in landing a gig or a job interview. Full Sail University recently hosted Sony Picture Imageworks' Vice President of Global Academic Relations Ken Maruyama on campus. Ken spoke to students about his company's work (their visual effects artists and animators have worked on films such as Alice in Wonderland, OZ: The Great and Powerful, and Men in Black 3). Ken also shared insight about what Sony Picture Imageworks looks for in resumes, portfolios, and demo reels. We were able to sit down with him prior to his presentation so that he could share his top five demo reel tips. Learn more at http://w.fullsail.edu/computeranimation

Demo reel from VTR Productions Toronto Canada circa mid-1960s. Some interesting footage of a (then) state of the art black and white mobile television truck, along with some early Canadian productions using this equipment. Posted for archival purposes.
