10 - As Unique as a finger print…
Germany is our next stop, where we visit the Forest Spiral – an incredible building completed in 2000. This is an apartment block and it even has a playground and small lake in the center of the apartments. There are 1000 windows in the building, and no two windows are exactly the same – they are all unique. Designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, an artist, and the architect involved was Heinz Springman.
9 - Houses come in all shapes and sizes…
And architect, Piet Blom, knows that too. He was the person who created the Cubic Houses in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Situated on the top of a pedestrian bridge, he wanted to create an abstract forest. So instead of trees, there were these cubes. Each cube contains 3 floors, and the size of each unit is about 100 square meters. Should you visit these houses, you can also pop into the museum of chess pieces underneath them!
8 - Back to the Future…
This building is named The Capital, and it’s located in Mumbai. The building is environmentally friendly, is 19 stories high and is a mix of office space, retail and hospitality. It has the biggest automated parking facility in the world and the building and its people, leave the lowest carbon footprint possible.
7 - A little more than a rest stop…
You wouldn’t believe by just looking at this building, that it’s merely a filling station and McDonalds – but that’s what it is. It’s found in the urbanized seaside city of Batumi, which is in Georgia. It boasts an indoor garden and pools, and is probably the most stylish garage and McDonalds in the world!
6 - Room Service Please…
Whilst we are on our journey discovering incredible buildings, we can’t miss staying a night in the Crazy House in Vietnam. The Hang Nga Guesthouse is a trippy experience – think Alice in Wonderland style. There is no set style at all with this guesthouse, and you can expect strange twists and turns, peculiar roofs and odd bedrooms. There are animals all around and people often visit the place like one would a museum.
5 - Reaching New Heights…
1082 feet or 330 meters, is how tall this hotel is in North Korea. The Ryugyong Hotel began to be built in 1987, and has 105 floors. To date – the hotel has still not been opened to the public, despite informing people it would be opened in 2011, again in 2012 and then one last time in 2013. Now in 2016, there is no word if it will ever be opened. It’s the tallest building in North Korea, but yet serves absolutely no purpose.
4 - See It to Believe It…
Chili is our next stop as we pay a visit to this exclusive hotel which is in the shape of a volcano. There are only 9 rooms, so be sure to book way in advance at the Montana Magica Lodge. The hotel actually spews out water instead of lava! This is truly a magical place to escape to, and even the furniture in the rooms is quirky and creative.
3 - High Maintenance…
It was 1906 when the Great Mosque of Djenne was built in Mali. The whole structure is made from mud bricks and these bricks are held together with mud mortar. So it’s vitally important that every month, local masons apply fresh mud to the building to prevent the entire thing from falling down! Ostrich eggs sit atop each temple, a sign of fertility and great fortune.

Habitat 67 is one of the most recognized buildings in Canada. Designed by Moshe Safdie, it was his creation for his master thesis. It was displayed at Expo 67, where according to Wiki – 50 million people attended during the year of 1967. There are still people living there, but many articles have been written about the failure to keep it in prime condition and suggestions have been made to tear it down. The Government has given it Heritage status, so I doubt that it will be scrapped any time soon.

Imagine one’s surprise when realizing that this impressive structure is actually the private home of someone! It’s officially the most expensive home in the world, at 1 billion dollars. 400 000 square meters, and 8 times the size of the White House – Mukesh Ambani is the owner of this home. He is the richest man in India, and his home has a temple, a garage for 168 cars, a home theatre and more. The home is called Antilia, and he lives there with his wife and 3 children.

10 - As Unique as a finger print…
Germany is our next stop, where we visit the Forest Spiral – an incredible building completed in 2000. This is an apartment block and it even has a playground and small lake in the center of the apartments. There are 1000 windows in the building, and no two windows are exactly the same – they are all unique. Designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, an artist, and the architect involved was Heinz Springman.
9 - Houses come in all shapes and sizes…
And architect, Piet Blom, knows that too. He was the person who created the Cubic Houses in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Situated on the top of a pedestrian bridge, he wanted to create an abstract forest. So instead of trees, there were these cubes. Each cube contains 3 floors, and the size of each unit is about 100 square meters. Should you visit these houses, you can also pop into the museum of chess pieces underneath them!
8 - Back to the Future…
This building is named The Capital, and it’s located in Mumbai. The building is environmentally friendly, is 19 stories high and is a mix of office space, retail and hospitality. It has the biggest automated parking facility in the world and the building and its people, leave the lowest carbon footprint possible.
7 - A little more than a rest stop…
You wouldn’t believe by just looking at this building, that it’s merely a filling station and McDonalds – but that’s what it is. It’s found in the urbanized seaside city of Batumi, which is in Georgia. It boasts an indoor garden and pools, and is probably the most stylish garage and McDonalds in the world!
6 - Room Service Please…
Whilst we are on our journey discovering incredible buildings, we can’t miss staying a night in the Crazy House in Vietnam. The Hang Nga Guesthouse is a trippy experience – think Alice in Wonderland style. There is no set style at all with this guesthouse, and you can expect strange twists and turns, peculiar roofs and odd bedrooms. There are animals all around and people often visit the place like one would a museum.
5 - Reaching New Heights…
1082 feet or 330 meters, is how tall this hotel is in North Korea. The Ryugyong Hotel began to be built in 1987, and has 105 floors. To date – the hotel has still not been opened to the public, despite informing people it would be opened in 2011, again in 2012 and then one last time in 2013. Now in 2016, there is no word if it will ever be opened. It’s the tallest building in North Korea, but yet serves absolutely no purpose.
4 - See It to Believe It…
Chili is our next stop as we pay a visit to this exclusive hotel which is in the shape of a volcano. There are only 9 rooms, so be sure to book way in advance at the Montana Magica Lodge. The hotel actually spews out water instead of lava! This is truly a magical place to escape to, and even the furniture in the rooms is quirky and creative.
3 - High Maintenance…
It was 1906 when the Great Mosque of Djenne was built in Mali. The whole structure is made from mud bricks and these bricks are held together with mud mortar. So it’s vitally important that every month, local masons apply fresh mud to the building to prevent the entire thing from falling down! Ostrich eggs sit atop each temple, a sign of fertility and great fortune.
2 - Game of Tetris…
Habitat 67 is one of the most recognized buildings in Canada. Designed by Moshe Safdie, it was his creation for his master thesis. It was displayed at Expo 67, where according to Wiki – 50 million people attended during the year of 1967. There are still people living there, but many articles have been written about the failure to keep it in prime condition and suggestions have been made to tear it down. The Government has given it Heritage status, so I doubt that it will be scrapped any time soon.

Imagine one’s surprise when realizing that this impressive structure is actually the private home of someone! It’s officially the most expensive home in the world, at 1 billion dollars. 400 000 square meters, and 8 times the size of the White House – Mukesh Ambani is the owner of this home. He is the richest man in India, and his home has a temple, a garage for 168 cars, a home theatre and more. The home is called Antilia, and he lives there with his wife and 3 children.
