Kosovo (/ˈkɒsəvoʊ, ˈkoʊ-/;Albanian: Kosova; Serbian Cyrillic: Косово) is a disputed territory and partially recognised state in Southeastern Europe that declared its independence from Serbia in February 2008 as the Republic of Kosovo. While Serbia recognises the Republic's governance of the territory, it still continues to claim it as its own Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
Kosovo is landlocked in the central Balkan Peninsula. Its capital and largest city is Pristina. It is bordered by the Republic of Macedonia and Albania to the south, Montenegro to the west, and the uncontested territory of Serbia to the north and east. In antiquity, the Dardanian Kingdom, and later the Roman province of Dardania was located in the region. It was part of Serbia in the Middle Ages, and many consider the Battle of Kosovo of 1389 to be one of the defining moments in Serbian medieval history. After being part of the Ottoman Empire from the 15th to the early 20th century, in the late 19th century Kosovo became the centre of the Albanian independence movement with the League of Prizren. As a result of the defeat in the First Balkan War (1912–13), the Ottoman Empire ceded the Vilayet of Kosovo to the Balkan League; the Kingdom of Serbia took its larger part, while the Kingdom of Montenegro annexed the western part before both countries became a part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia after World War I. After a period of Yugoslav unitarianism in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the post-World War II Yugoslav constitution established the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija within the Yugoslav constituent republic of Serbia.
Pristina, also spelled Prishtina (Albanian: Prishtinë, IPA: [pɾiʃtinə]; Serbian: Приштина / Priština; Turkish: Priştine), is the capital and largest city of Kosovo. It is the administrative center of the homonymous municipality and district.
Preliminary results of the 2011 census put the population of Pristina at 198,000. The city has a majority Albanian population, alongside other smaller communities. It is the administrative, educational, and cultural center of Kosovo. The city is home to the University of Pristina and is served by Pristina International Airport.
The name of the city is derived from a Slavic form *Prišьčь, a possessive adjective from the personal name *Prišьkъ, (preserved in the Kajkavian surname Prišek, in the Old Polish personal name Parzyszek, and in the Polish surname Pryszczyk) and the derivational suffix -ina 'belonging to X and his kin'. The name is most likely a patronymic of the personal name *Prišь, preserved as a surname in Sorbian Priš, and Polish Przybysz - a hypocoristic of the Slavic personal name Pribyslavъ. A false etymology connects the name Priština with the Serbian word prišt (пришт), meaning 'ulcer' or 'tumour', referring to its 'boiling'. However, this explanation cannot be correct, as Slavic place names ending in -ina corresponding either or both to an adjective or the name of an inhabitant lacking this suffix are built from personal names or denote a person and never derive, in these conditions, from common nouns (SNOJ 2007: loc. cit.). The inhabitants of this city call themselves Prishtinali in local Gheg Albanian or Prištevci (Приштевци) in the local Serbian dialect.

Top best things to visit in Pristina! Pristina is the capital and largest city of Kosovo. Prishtina is the economic, administrative and cultural center of the country. It is called the “City of Coffee Bars” for many outdoor cafes found almost everywhere. The Skanderbeg Square is the central plaza of town named after Albanian national hero whose statue can be found there. It is at the end of the Mother Therese Boulevard, the main pedestrian street, and next to the National Theater. Nearby, housed in an Austria-Hungarian style building, the National Museum has a rich collection of prehistoric objects. Tucked back in the old town streets, composed of a traditional guest house, an arts studio and a family home, is the Ethnological Museum. Between these museums are situated two significant ...

Drive to Prishtina, Kosovo Music by: Mr. Scruff - Get a Move On
To see Pristina from street-level is best: start off in the Dardania neighborhood. The city is buzzing with its new found freedom and self identity. You won't find many cities in Europe with such an exciting atmosphere. Pristina really is a city where politics, recent history, ancient history and day-to-day life collide. Where stark communist blocks lie next to striking remnants of its Ottoman past. Beautiful 15th century mosques, hamams, clock towers and bazaars are all here to give you that distinctive eastern feeling. Amongst all this you'll find the hustle and bustle of the city's community life, mostly through the hum of the open-air cafes that flank the streets, particularly in Dardania. Sitting and drinking coffee is a national pastime and you'll be hard pushed to get a better macch...

Kosovo Passion Film Project: http://igg.me/p/242816?a=1519994 Kosovo is not a typical travel destination but it is still worth a visit. The aim of this was to show very briefly a few places to visit if you were only there for a day. Other than the places to visit it also offers a rich cultural experience that makes a change from the more usual tourist hot spots.

Top best things to visit in Prizren. Prizren is a historic and the second largest city in Kosovo. Prizren, known since the Middle Ages as the “Serbian Constantinople”, approves its nickname thanks to the historic part of the town, winding streets and old stories and legends. The city is settled on the banks of Bistrica River and in the center of Old Town is located the Stone Bridge. Just next to the bridge is the Shadërvan Square, the main urban plaza and a gathering point in the evenings and is surrounded by two significant places of worship: The Sinan Pasha Mosque, the largest and one of the best mosques in this territory. And built just behind the corner, the St George Orthodox Cathedral. The city’s largest church was destroyed by a mob in 2004 and it has been reconstructed since....

Rap group Earthworms left Frankfort, Germany for Prishtina, Kosovo without their tour guide. There was no way around the mix up. The entertainers would have to travel alone. In this episode they have made it to their destination country, but they would have to wait at the airport for their tour guide to catch up. They took time to learn about these historic lands while they waited. This is an excerpt from the Earthworms travelog movie, Capricorn Dreams.
