The Republic of Zambia /ˈzæmbiə/ is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, neighbouring the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Tanzania to the north-east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia to the south, and Angola to the west. The capital city is Lusaka, in the south-central part of Zambia. The population is concentrated mainly around Lusaka in the south and the Copperbelt Province to the northwest, the core economic hubs of the country.
Originally inhabited by Khoisan peoples, the region was affected by the Bantu expansion of the thirteenth century. After visits by European explorers in the eighteenth century, Zambia became the British protectorate of Northern Rhodesia towards the end of the nineteenth century. For most of the colonial period, Zambia was governed by an administration appointed from London with the advice of the British South Africa Company.
Nigeria’s military has released videos of its ongoing counter-terrorism operations to dislodge Boko Haram terrorists inside the notorious Sambisa Forest. The video showed the dexterity of Nigerian Air Force pilots, as they taunt the terrorists, with hundreds of them running helter-skelter and fleeing into different directions. In another footage, vulnerable women and children were seen cautiously and deliberately guided to safety by the Nigerian pilots. For more information log on to http://www.channelstv.com
As the war escalated the Rhodesians increasingly resorted to external raids, attacking targets in Mozambique, Angola and Zambia. Their view of these raids is reproduced in the fictionalised account of the Green Leader raid, Operation Zambezi. The Green Leader raid was not the most significant strategically, but it was the most heavily publicised, within Rhodesia and internationally. One of the factors provoking the Green Leader raid was the shooting down of a Rhodesian Viscount - Rhodesian reaction was recalled internally in "A Deafening Silence" The raid began with an airstrike on the camps, after which helicopter gunships and ground troops would move in. After the first bombs fell came the Rhodesian's propaganda masterstroke. Climbing away after the bomb run, the commander of the rai...
In June 1978 it was learnt that SWAPO was preparing to attack the military bases at Katima Mulilo, Wenela and M''pacha. To meet this attack two combat teams viz Alpha and Bravo were formed. The attack started on 23 August with a stand-off bombardment using 122 mm rockets on Katima Mulilo. One of these penetrated the roof of a barrack killing ten soldiers. After an artillery and mortar battle the two combat units crossed the border. Combat team Bravo's target was a SWAPO base camp approximately 30 km from the Zambian border but they found it deserted and returned to M''pacha without having accomplished this objective. Combat Unit Alpha managed to catch up with the rear guard of a number of fleeing terrorists but were enticed into an ambush. In the fighting which ensued five terrorists w...

In Islam, the Devil is known as ʾIblīs (Arabic: إبليس, plural: ابالسة ʾAbālisa) or Shayṭān (Arabic: شيطان, plural: شياطين Shayāṭīn). According to the Quran, God created Iblis out of "smokeless fire or from the pure flame of fire" (along with all of the other jinn) and created man out of clay. The primary characteristic of the Devil, is that he has the power to cast evil suggestions into the heart of men, women, and jinn, Iblis was proud and arrogant and considered himself superior to Adam, since Adam was made from clay and Iblis from smokeless fire. For this act of disobedience, God cursed him to Hell for eternity, but gave him respite until the Day of Judgment (Qiyāmah), after Iblis requested it. Iblis obtained permission from God and vowed that he would use this time to lead all human...

In fact, U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power has even said at a U.N. meeting back in May 2016 that the U.S. is “proud” to be joining with the U.N. “Peacekeepers” — in order to “act” in case civilians are ever in danger. In preparation for civil unrest, staged rioting and upheaval, and finally, Martial Law... Along with the U.S., these 29 nations are set to act under the Kigali Principles in times of conflict. The presidential elections and the controversial Zambian National Referendum kicked off today. The polls come just over a year after current leader Edgar Lungu was elected early in 2015 following the death of Michael Sata in 2014. The late Sata became the second Zambian sitting president to die in office after Levy Mwanawasa passed on in 2008. Nine political parties are running for the presidential vote. The incumbent Edgar Lungu of the governing Patriotic Front, and Hakainde Hichilema from the opposition-United Party for National Development are the frontrunners. Zambia is commended for political stability and the power handover there has largely been peaceful. Zambia is a country probably not on the radar of most investors. But like the mighty Zambezi river its named after Zambias economy has been growing slowly and steadily recording a GDP growth rate of over 5% per annum. Now the country is on the brink of change - a new transitional leader Rupiah Banda begins his terms facing a global economic slowdown, a drop in commodity prices and rising food and fuel prices.
Zambia is one of Africa's largest producers of copper but with global prices down, the economy has suffered a huge knock: Some mines are closing, the currency is weaker and the cost of living has gone up. Big industry is reeling from the shocks and small business is shouldering a lot of the burden, too. But surprisingly, some entrepreneurs in the capital city of Lusaka are showing a great deal of resilience. The BBC's Lerato Mbele has been finding out more for Africa Business Report.
Zambia's economy has been growing at a sluggish rate averaging three percent per annum since copper prices dipped two years ago. The cost of living and doing business has been soaring as a result pushing citizens to a corner. The situation is made worse by a government decision to cut fuel subsides last year that led to a 39 percent hike in the price petrol.

Zambia's rich mineral resources are one of the country's most important assets. They contribute to national income, exports, employment and government revenue. As the country looks to the future, Zambia faces important choices on how to manage its mineral wealth. There are trade-offs in the design of the mining fiscal regime. Mining inevitably entails environmental and public health risks. Mining firms make choices about procurement that influences the industry's contribution to the Zambian economy. Zambia's economy should grow by 3 percent this year, largely unchanged from last year as electricity shortages and subdued private sector investment weigh according to the International Monetary Fund. The IMF's forecast was similar to the government's own growth estimate for 2016. The economy expanded by 2.9 percent in 2015. The IMF Mission Chief to Zambia said resolute policy action such as the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies could help Zambia overcome its economic challenges. Zambia began talks with the IMF in March about a potential aid package after agreeing the budget deficit was not sustainable. The government hopes to conclude a programme with the IMF in the first quarter of next year.

African cultures and traditions go back far in time. To film a traditional ceremony few know about was an amazing experience. Zambia has over 70 different tribes, each with their own rich culture. Long before David Livingstone discovered and 'named' the Victoria Falls it had always been an integral part in culture of the Mukuni Royal Dynasty that dates back almost 400 years. This incredible waterfall is called Nsyungu Namutitima by the indigenous Leya people, or Mosi-oa-Tunya -- the smoke that thunders. (On a personal note I think its a touch of immense arrogance to have named them after a queen that has no relevance to the people here and one who has never set foot in this country) The Mukuni Royal village, Gundu, is the site where in the 18th Century, the founder, Paramount Chief Mu...

Seven countries in Southern Africa are modelling how to deliver integrated SRHR-HIV services in order to improve uptake. This is Zambia's story. The SRH-HIV Linkages programme aims to link HIV prevention, treatment and care with Sexual Reproductive Health Services. While this may appear logical, it is not the way public health clinics are currently organized in these countries. The programme is about making small subtle changes in health care delivery that have a big impact on the lives of ordinary people. It uses the opportunity to provide comprehensive services to any client who seeks health services at the clinics. If they seek HIV testing, they are also offered family planning, antenatal services, cervical cancer and TB screening, and more. The results suggest that the project has le...

To achieve sustainable change and health improvements for women and children in the world, advocacy is an important tool at Local, National and International level. International mechanisms needs to be translated to national level targets an implemented locally to ultimately bring an improvement to the nutrition and health status of children worldwide. In Zambia, Save the Children conducted many advocacy workshops with local councilors, health workers, children and traditional leaders on child rights, on how to advocate for better health services at community level and inform decisions and district level. One of them came to the UN in Geneva to advocate for better health services and it paid off and shows that advocacy works if linked up at all level of governance.

At the same time it looks at the fledgling healthcare system, which can barely provide the medicines, staff or facilities to meet the needs of the average Zambian, let alone those living in desperate poverty. Travel video about destination Chobe River in Zambia. The Chobe River is one of the most important tributaries of the Zambesi that flows into the famous Victoria Falls. The source of the fifteen hundred kilometre long river is situated in the highlands of Angola. The river is named according to the language of the local inhabitants that live along its course. Also known as the Cuando or Linyanti it also acts as a natural frontier for the four neighbouring countries of Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The landscape close to the Chobe River is an excellent habitat for the White Tailed Eagle and the African Sea Eagle. The river continuously alters its course and character. Sometimes it looks like a swamp or becomes so wide that it takes on the appearance of a small lake. Just before nig...
Travel video about destination Victoria Falls. Located in the south of the African continent and located on the Zambia/Zimbabwe border, the Victoria Falls are one of the world's most amazing and impressive wonders of nature.Between February and March when the Zambesi is at its strongest, an average of more than five hundred million litres of water shoot over edge of the waterfall every minute. Indeed, the dimensions of the Victoria Falls beats all records: at an average height of ninety seven metres, the Victoria Falls are around one and a half times as long and also twice as high as the world famous Niagara Falls in North America.Dense tropical rain forests now cover the former basins of earlier waterfalls and have thus created vegetation that would not normally thrive in the surrounding ...

These lions and cubs have found the shadiest, coolest spot on the Luangwa River: Mfuwe Safari Lodge. The pride and other wildlife usually visit at the hottest time of the year to cool down under the shady canopy, so it was rather a surprise that these lions showed up during Zambia’s cooler season – it seems they have grown fond of luxury lodge life! Mfuwe Lodge is located in South Luangwa National Park, and there are no fences surrounding the lodge. In this video, you’ll see members of the pride moving through the grounds and settling down on one of the lodge’s wooden walkways for an afternoon siesta. Because wildlife is able to move through and around the lodge, guests are not permitted to walk alone on the grounds at night, and must be accompanied by a guide. This is definitely the real ...

Since the incident, Hichilema has remained in police custody, spurring protests from his supporters and demands for his release. The trial has shuttled from one magistrate to another, but the government says it is not political, defending the judicial process and calling on opposition officials to recognise the president’s authority. Hey Zambia where you hide?
I could find you if i tried
Here i go, Here i come.
Playing this game so much fun
Playing ghosts in the dark
Country houses far apart
See your grandad smoking pipe,
Hear the birds cry in the night.
See my Emily, calling out to me,
Waving to me from the past.
Merrily we play, Merrilly we play
Vague recollections that last.
Oooh Zambia
Making castles in the sand
See the big ship far from land.
Watch them go, watch them come.
Eating ice cream in the sun.
Hey girl what you do tonight?
Ask your mummy if alright
That your coming out with me,
We'll make love behind the tree.
See my Emily, calling out to me,
Waving to me from the past.
Merrily we play, Merrilly we play
