A direct-broadcast satellite (DBS) is a type of artificial satellite which usually broadcasts satellite television signals for home reception.
The type of satellite television which uses direct-broadcast satellites is known as direct-broadcast satellite television (DBSTV) or direct-to-home television (DTHTV). The term "direct broadcast" is used to distinguish satellites which transmit radio or television signals directly to receivers in consumers' homes from other communications satellites which transmit signals to satellite ground stations, for example those which distribute cable television signals to cable head end facilities. Since home satellite television receivers use small dish antennas less than a meter in diameter, DBS satellites must have much higher downlink transmitter power than other communication satellites, which are received by larger dishes from 2 up to 50 meters diameter.
In Europe, prior to the launch of Astra 1A in 1988, the term DBS was commonly used to describe the nationally commissioned satellites planned and launched to provide television broadcasts to the home within several European countries (such as BSB in the United Kingdom and TV-Sat in Germany). These services were to use the D-Mac and D2-Mac format and BSS frequencies with circular polarization from orbital positions allocated to each country. Before these DBS satellites, home satellite television in Europe was limited to a few channels, really intended for cable distribution, and requiring dishes typically of 1.7 m.
SES launched the Astra 1A satellite to provide services to homes across Europe receivable on dishes of just 90 cm and, although these mostly used PAL video format and FSS frequencies with linear polarization, the DBS name slowly came to be applied to all Astra satellites and services too.
As a technical matter, DBS (also known by the International Telecommunication Union as Broadcasting Satellite Service, or BSS) refers only to services transmitted by satellite in specific frequency bands: 11.7-12.2 GHz in ITU Region 3 (Asia and Australia), 10.7 - 12.75 GHz in ITU Region 1 (Europe, Russia and Africa), and 12.2-12.7 GHz ITU Region 2 (North and South America). In 1977, the ITU adopted an international BSS Plan under which each country was allocated specific frequencies at specific orbital locations for domestic service. Over the years, this plan has been modified to, for example, accommodate new countries, increase coverage areas, and reflect digital (rather than analog) technology. At present, numerous countries have brought into use their BSS Plan allocations.
By contrast, the term DTH can apply to similar services transmitted over a wider range of frequencies (including standard Ku band and Ka band) transmitted from satellites that are not part of any internationally planned band. The term DBS is often used interchangeably with DTH to cover both analog and digital video and audio services (including video on demand and interactive features) received by relatively small dishes (less than 1 meter). A "DBS service" usually refers to either a commercial service, or a group of free channels available from one orbital position targeting one country. In certain regions of the world, especially in North America, DBS is used to refer to providers of subscription satellite packages, and has become applied to the entire equipment chain involved.

"Media are a weapon," says EBN front man Josh Pearson. And he means just that, as the performance of the five media guerillas from Rhode Island proves. They point this weapon at those who normally wield it. Politicians, television companies and time and again the military are the target, the victims, of the brilliant video samplings of EBN. With hard beats, brutal cutting and an uncompromising live performance, EBN shows the way forward to a pro-active attitude in the age of information that not only challenges the image of the media, but can also transform it.
With revolutions every minute in entertainment and creative technology; audio-visual manipulation software, the advances brought about by digital encoding, optical transfer and digital storage and the new entertainment systems that these advances are creating, there has to be a new take on what is providing the entertainment. It’s all very well having flat screen surround audio-visual in every room of your house, operated from a remote control and beamed direct into your control box by a satellite that’s transmitting the signal from an optical disc being accessed in Houston, but are you really going to get excited by another Rolling Stone reunion plastered all over your walls once the millennium is just a memory of a well spent defence budget?
Enter Emergency Broadcast Network, the first of a new strain, perched somewhere between a band, a DJ and MTV. They’ve been under construction since Pearson met Gardner Post [Systems Manager] at Rhode Island School Of Design over ten years ago, where they began collaborating on multimedia "press conferences" featuring painting, sculpture and video. Their ideas came closer to fruition, though, when Ron O’Donnel, a DJ, introduced himself at one of their seminars in 1990. Taking the role of "Spin Control", O’Donnel offered the duo a focus for their visual experiments.
This is the key to what makes EBN so different. Unlike many new acts who spend their formative years cutting and pasting tape loops and samples of their favourite records, EBN spend theirs cutting, pasting and sampling their favourite videos, using as source material a cataloque of tapes they’ve been collecting since the early ’80s. So, unlike any conventional group, who compose and create their music, then making a visual to go with it, EBN painstakingly create their music on threequarter inch offline, frame by frame, note by note, thus making a soundtrack that is already completely interactive with an array of provoking, stimulating and entertaining video footage.
And unlike a band that might tour toilets for years before attracting a record company, EBN converted an ’80s Chevy Impala truck into the Emergency Broadcast Vehicle, complete with projector and screen in the form of a satellite dish mounted on its roof, which they took on the 1991 Lollapalooza tour, broadcasting their first messages to a bemused new audience.
"What we’re doing is a direct parody of a major broadcast system, hence the name – to point out all of its absurdities and its methods of control over people, at the same time as entertaining and stimulating them", concludes Pearson.

List of satellites in geosynchronous orbit
This is a list of satellites in geostationary orbit. These satellites are commonly used for communication purposes, such as radio and television networks, backhaul, and direct broadcast. Traditional global navigation systems do not use geostationary satellites, but some SBAS navigation satellites do. A number of weather satellites are also present in geostationary orbits. Not included in the list below are several more classified military geostationary satellites, such as PAN.
Listings are from west to east (decreasing longitude in the Western Hemisphere and increasing longitude in the Eastern Hemisphere) by orbital position, starting and ending with the International Date Line.
Some of these satellites are separated from each other by as little as one tenth of a degree longitude. This corresponds to an inter-satellite spacing of approximately 73 km. The major consideration for spacing of geostationary satellites is the beamwidth at-orbit of uplink transmitters, which is primarily a factor of the size and stability of the uplink dish, as well as what frequencies the satellite's transponders receive; satellites with discontiguous frequency allocations can be much closer together.

Communications satellite
A communications satellite is an artificial satellite that relays and amplifies radio telecommunications signals via a transponder; it creates a communication channel between a source transmitter and a receiver(s) at different locations on Earth. Communications satellites are used for television, telephone, radio, internet, and military applications. There are over 2,000 communications satellites in Earth’s orbit, used by both private and government organizations.
Wireless communication uses electromagnetic waves to carry signals. These waves require line-of-sight, and are thus obstructed by the curvature of the Earth. The purpose of communications satellites is to relay the signal around the curve of the Earth allowing communication between widely separated points. The electromagnetic signals that communication satellites work with, have a large spectrum of wavelengths and frequencies. To keep these waves from interfering with one another, international organizations have certain rules and regulations describing which wavelength a certain company or group can use. By separating out wavelengths, communication satellites will have minimal interference and be able to communicate effectively.

In Europe, prior to the launch of Astra 1A in 1988, the term DBS was commonly used to describe the nationally commissioned satellites planned and launched to provide television broadcasts to the home within several European countries (such as BSB in the United Kingdom and TV-Sat in Germany). These services were to use the D-Mac and D2-Mac format and BSS frequencies with circular polarization from orbital positions allocated to each country. Before these DBS satellites, home satellite television in Europe was limited to a few channels, really intended for cable distribution, and requiring dishes typically of 1.7 m.
SES launched the Astra 1A satellite to provide services to homes across Europe receivable on dishes of just 90 cm and, although these mostly used PAL video format and FSS frequencies with linear polarization, the DBS name slowly came to be applied to all Astra satellites and services too.
As a technical matter, DBS (also known by the International Telecommunication Union as Broadcasting Satellite Service, or BSS) refers only to services transmitted by satellite in specific frequency bands: 11.7-12.2 GHz in ITU Region 3 (Asia and Australia), 10.7 - 12.75 GHz in ITU Region 1 (Europe, Russia and Africa), and 12.2-12.7 GHz ITU Region 2 (North and South America). In 1977, the ITU adopted an international BSS Plan under which each country was allocated specific frequencies at specific orbital locations for domestic service. Over the years, this plan has been modified to, for example, accommodate new countries, increase coverage areas, and reflect digital (rather than analog) technology. At present, numerous countries have brought into use their BSS Plan allocations.
By contrast, the term DTH can apply to similar services transmitted over a wider range of frequencies (including standard Ku band and Ka band) transmitted from satellites that are not part of any internationally planned band. The term DBS is often used interchangeably with DTH to cover both analog and digital video and audio services (including video on demand and interactive features) received by relatively small dishes (less than 1 meter). A "DBS service" usually refers to either a commercial service, or a group of free channels available from one orbital position targeting one country. In certain regions of the world, especially in North America, DBS is used to refer to providers of subscription satellite packages, and has become applied to the entire equipment chain involved.

"Media are a weapon," says EBN front man Josh Pearson. And he means just that, as the performance of the five media guerillas from Rhode Island proves. They point this weapon at those who normally wield it. Politicians, television companies and time and again the military are the target, the victims, of the brilliant video samplings of EBN. With hard beats, brutal cutting and an uncompromising live performance, EBN shows the way forward to a pro-active attitude in the age of information that not only challenges the image of the media, but can also transform it.
With revolutions every minute in entertainment and creative technology; audio-visual manipulation software, the advances brought about by digital encoding, optical transfer and digital storage and the new entertainment systems that these advances are creating, there has to be a new take on what is providing the entertainment. It’s all very well having flat screen surround audio-visual in every room of your house, operated from a remote control and beamed direct into your control box by a satellite that’s transmitting the signal from an optical disc being accessed in Houston, but are you really going to get excited by another Rolling Stone reunion plastered all over your walls once the millennium is just a memory of a well spent defence budget?
Enter Emergency Broadcast Network, the first of a new strain, perched somewhere between a band, a DJ and MTV. They’ve been under construction since Pearson met Gardner Post [Systems Manager] at Rhode Island School Of Design over ten years ago, where they began collaborating on multimedia "press conferences" featuring painting, sculpture and video. Their ideas came closer to fruition, though, when Ron O’Donnel, a DJ, introduced himself at one of their seminars in 1990. Taking the role of "Spin Control", O’Donnel offered the duo a focus for their visual experiments.
This is the key to what makes EBN so different. Unlike many new acts who spend their formative years cutting and pasting tape loops and samples of their favourite records, EBN spend theirs cutting, pasting and sampling their favourite videos, using as source material a cataloque of tapes they’ve been collecting since the early ’80s. So, unlike any conventional group, who compose and create their music, then making a visual to go with it, EBN painstakingly create their music on threequarter inch offline, frame by frame, note by note, thus making a soundtrack that is already completely interactive with an array of provoking, stimulating and entertaining video footage.
And unlike a band that might tour toilets for years before attracting a record company, EBN converted an ’80s Chevy Impala truck into the Emergency Broadcast Vehicle, complete with projector and screen in the form of a satellite dish mounted on its roof, which they took on the 1991 Lollapalooza tour, broadcasting their first messages to a bemused new audience.
"What we’re doing is a direct parody of a major broadcast system, hence the name – to point out all of its absurdities and its methods of control over people, at the same time as entertaining and stimulating them", concludes Pearson.

The worlds first interactive multi-cinema film premiere.
Defying the usual conventions of film, RAGE is the new cinematic creation from writer-director Sally Potter. Using a radical narrative structure focused entirely on individual performances, RAGE a dynamic series of interviews, as if shot by a schoolboy on his mobile phone, behind the scenes of a New York fashion show during a dramatic week.
Fourteen characters each have a role in the show, from the designer (Simon Abkarian) and his models (Lily Cole and Jude Law), the fashion critic (Judi Dench) and photographer (Steve Buscemi), to the financier (Eddie Izzard) and his bodyguard (John Leguizamo).
The radical style of RAGE is embraced in its unique distribution strategy.
The premiere will be broadcast live by satellite from the BFI Southbank to other UK cinemas. You can be part of the satellite broadcast of the Q&A; after the film, sending your questions by Skype video and SMS direct from your cinema live to Sally and members of the RAGE cast.

Introduction:
The following is a sociological experiment of the effective influence of broadcast television sub-channel communication: O + K.2 [CPM= GRP x 1000/aHH + s] = n (participant HH).
Knowledge is power; the power of knowing how things work, and how to work them, is power at work. Humans are creatures of routine habits, mostly seeking the simplest means of accomplishing things while using the least amount of energy. Society’s lessons learned by those who grew-up with TV: Television is the greatest persuader, then and now. People want what’s seen on TV, the manufactured desires of ease, that causes people to drive rather than walk, Google rather than searching through an alphabetical directory, microwave rather than bake, and use an electronic calculator rather than a pencil. What’s a phonebook used for, anyhow? When people want to learn about something, they ask someone to “show them, or teach them how,” or learn from watching a television set. People prefer to learn any other way, than reading the words of written manuals with time-consuming boring in-depth instructions or directions. Relaxing by reading a good book is no longer the culturally favored leisure practiced by many in American society, today. Some researchers believe this phenomenon is a byproduct of an American school system that focuses on the “right answer, and pleasing authority figures,” or are media creating behavioral-engineered responses of human desire conjured-up by spin-masters hell bent of selling products not needed (Choi, 2010; Goldsworthy & Morris, 2008; Huffington, 2010; Pink, 2010; Wadsworth, 1998)? If television truly influences behavior, then allow it to help educate society on demand.
Purpose of study:
The purpose of this qualitative and quantitative study is to identify the efficiency and effectiveness of advertising on sub-channel broadcast television stations in San Antonio, Texas area of dominant influence (ADI), by performing an analysis with valid empirical data and qualitative interviews approach to an informal research methodology in testing a hypothesis (Stacks, 2002): HQ: If a grocery provider “O” and a single broadcast station, “K.2,” (limitations) were to offer cardholders of redeemable government food stamps program (the dependent variables), special discount offers exclusively for ‘sub-canal’ watchers – “aHH + s,” (stimulus) who saw the ads watching a single sub-channel during a 60-day period (latency), and called-in or logged-into website (reaction) with special word (trigger) to receive a free magnetic discount coupon tracking card (incentive) from the broadcast TV station. This experiment is testing the effectiveness of promotional communication between a station and merchant to an audience and consumer in order to determine a count that could be calculated into an estimate cost per thousand (CPM), for the sub-channel “K.2.” Note: Possible collateral effect may cause station branding to occur. Therefore, O + K.2 [CPM= GRP x 1000/aHH + s] = n (participant HH).
Research Questions:
RQ1: Does advertising or promoting a product on a broadcast OTA sub-channels prove to have a better cost per thousand (CPM), and greater value to a social-economic minded-audiences who rely on TV to keep informed, during the aftermath of “The Great Recession of 2008?”
RQ2: Is the present national economic status causing households to abandon pay TV to seek alternative sources for television programming acquisition? Is American households tuning-in to over-the-air OTA television signal (antenna), or watching streaming Internet TV (broadband), or capturing smart-phone downloads (podcast)?
RQ3: Has the influence of the Internet help change viewers perspective about conducting business using digital television? What is the future of OTA broadcast sub-channels, and fulfilling its promises from the past?
Methodology of quasi-experimental disposition.
Phase I, Area of study:
It is important to understand the unique characteristics of the demographics of the areas of dominant influence (ADI) selected for this experiment. San Antonio, Texas is a unique market because its inhabitants consist of the fasting growing minority in the country with the highest degree of spending power (U.S. Census, 2010). Hispanic-Latinos are the majority in the San Antonio ADI making up 53.79% of its population. Hispanic-Latino households consist of 16% of the nation’s population, in the other two selected ADI’s, Seattle-Tacoma’s Hispanic-Latino citizens are 7.76% of its populace, and the Austin ADI reports 29.23%

Powerful Midwest Storm System. This animation of imagery from NOAA’s GOES-13 satellite shows the movement of storm systems in the south central United States on May 20, 2013. Warm, moist gulf air flowing across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri triggered tornadoes, with an F-4 tornado (winds between 166 and 200 mph) crossing Moore, Okla., on May 20 around 3 p.m. CDT.Credit: NASA/NOAA GOES Project, Dennis Chesters. - On May 20, 2013, NASA and NOAA satellites observed the system that generated severe weather in the south central United States and spawned the Moore, Okla., tornado.The tornado that struck Moore on the afternoon of Monday, May 20, was an F-4 tornado on the enhanced Fujita scale, according to the National Weather Service. F-4 tornadoes have sustained winds from 166 to 200 mph. This tornado was about twice as wide as the tornado that struck Moore on May 3, 1999. Moore is located 10 miles south of Oklahoma City. Before, during and after the tornado, satellites provided imagery and data to forecasters. The first tornado warning was issued around 2:40 p.m. CDT (local time). By 3:01 p.m. CDT a tornado emergency was issued for Moore, and 35 minutes later at 3:36 p.m. CDT, the tornado spun down and dissipated. NASA's Aqua satellite captured a visible-light image that provided a detailed look at the supercell thunderstorm. NOAA's GOES-13 satellite provided continuously updated satellite imagery depicting the storm's movement. After the tornado, the NASA-NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite's lightning observations showed that the thunderstorm complex was still active after nightfall.NOAA's GOES-13 satellite provided forecasters with images of the storm system every 15 minutes. One GOES-13 satellite image was captured at 19:55 UTC (2:55 p.m. CDT) as the tornado began its deadly swath. The tornado was generated near the bottom of a line of clouds resembling an exclamation mark. The GOES-13 satellite imagery from the entire day was assembled into an animation by the NASA GOES Project at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. Four minutes after the tornado dissipated (19:40 UTC / 3:40 p.m. EDT), the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite captured a visible image of the supercell thunderstorm that spawned the Moore tornado. That image was created by the NASA Goddard MODIS Rapid Response Team and Adam Voiland, NASA Earth Observatory. Later as the storm system continued through the region, another satellite captured an image of the storm at night that showed it was still powerful. The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite aboard Suomi NPP observed lightning in a nighttime image on May 21 at 07:27 UTC (3:27 a.m. EDT). Lightning appeared as rectangular shapes in the image. The VIIRS imagery showed the city lights in the Oklahoma City area, but there was reduced light output in Moore as a result of tornado damage.The Suomi NPP satellite carries an instrument so sensitive to low light levels that it can detect lightning in the middle of the night. The Day/Night band on Suomi NPP produces nighttime visible imagery using illumination from natural (the moon, forest fires) and man-made sources (city lights). The data were captured by the direct broadcast antenna at University of Wisconsin.

A direct-broadcast satellite (DBS) is a type of artificial satellite which usually broadcasts satellite television signals for home reception.
The type of satellite television which uses direct-broadcast satellites is known as direct-broadcast satellite television (DBSTV) or direct-to-home television (DTHTV). The term "direct broadcast" is used to distinguish satellites which transmit radio or television signals directly to receivers in consumers' homes from other communications satellites which transmit signals to satellite ground stations, for example those which distribute cable television signals to cable head end facilities. Since home satellite television receivers use small dish antennas less than a meter in diameter, DBS satellites must have much higher downlink transmitter power than other communication satellites, which are received by larger dishes from 2 up to 50 meters diameter.
In Europe, prior to the launch of Astra 1A in 1988, the term DBS was commonly used to describe the nationally commissioned satellites planned and launched to provide television broadcasts to the home within several European countries (such as BSB in the United Kingdom and TV-Sat in Germany). These services were to use the D-Mac and D2-Mac format and BSS frequencies with circular polarization from orbital positions allocated to each country. Before these DBS satellites, home satellite television in Europe was limited to a few channels, really intended for cable distribution, and requiring dishes typically of 1.7 m.
SES launched the Astra 1A satellite to provide services to homes across Europe receivable on dishes of just 90 cm and, although these mostly used PAL video format and FSS frequencies with linear polarization, the DBS name slowly came to be applied to all Astra satellites and services too.
As a technical matter, DBS (also known by the International Telecommunication Union as Broadcasting Satellite Service, or BSS) refers only to services transmitted by satellite in specific frequency bands: 11.7-12.2 GHz in ITU Region 3 (Asia and Australia), 10.7 - 12.75 GHz in ITU Region 1 (Europe, Russia and Africa), and 12.2-12.7 GHz ITU Region 2 (North and South America). In 1977, the ITU adopted an international BSS Plan under which each country was allocated specific frequencies at specific orbital locations for domestic service. Over the years, this plan has been modified to, for example, accommodate new countries, increase coverage areas, and reflect digital (rather than analog) technology. At present, numerous countries have brought into use their BSS Plan allocations.
By contrast, the term DTH can apply to similar services transmitted over a wider range of frequencies (including standard Ku band and Ka band) transmitted from satellites that are not part of any internationally planned band. The term DBS is often used interchangeably with DTH to cover both analog and digital video and audio services (including video on demand and interactive features) received by relatively small dishes (less than 1 meter). A "DBS service" usually refers to either a commercial service, or a group of free channels available from one orbital position targeting one country. In certain regions of the world, especially in North America, DBS is used to refer to providers of subscription satellite packages, and has become applied to the entire equipment chain involved.

With revolutions every minute in entertainment and creative technology; audio-visual manipulation software, the advances brought about by digital encoding, optical transfer and digital storage and the new entertainment systems that these advances are creating, there has to be a new take on what is providing the entertainment. It’s all very well having flat screen surround audio-visual in every room of your house, operated from a remote control and beamed direct into your control box by a satellite that’s transmitting the signal from an optical disc being accessed in Houston, but are you really going to get excited by another Rolling Stone reunion plastered all over your walls once the millennium is just a memory of a well spent defence budget?
Enter Emergency Broadcast Network, the first of a new strain, perched somewhere between a band, a DJ and MTV. They’ve been under construction since Pearson met Gardner Post [Systems Manager] at Rhode Island School Of Design over ten years ago, where they began collaborating on multimedia "press conferences" featuring painting, sculpture and video. Their ideas came closer to fruition, though, when Ron O’Donnel, a DJ, introduced himself at one of their seminars in 1990. Taking the role of "Spin Control", O’Donnel offered the duo a focus for their visual experiments.
This is the key to what makes EBN so different. Unlike many new acts who spend their formative years cutting and pasting tape loops and samples of their favourite records, EBN spend theirs cutting, pasting and sampling their favourite videos, using as source material a cataloque of tapes they’ve been collecting since the early ’80s. So, unlike any conventional group, who compose and create their music, then making a visual to go with it, EBN painstakingly create their music on threequarter inch offline, frame by frame, note by note, thus making a soundtrack that is already completely interactive with an array of provoking, stimulating and entertaining video footage.
And unlike a band that might tour toilets for years before attracting a record company, EBN converted an ’80s Chevy Impala truck into the Emergency Broadcast Vehicle, complete with projector and screen in the form of a satellite dish mounted on its roof, which they took on the 1991 Lollapalooza tour, broadcasting their first messages to a bemused new audience.
"What we’re doing is a direct parody of a major broadcast system, hence the name – to point out all of its absurdities and its methods of control over people, at the same time as entertaining and stimulating them", concludes Pearson.

"Media are a weapon," says EBN front man Josh Pearson. And he means just that, as the performance of the five media guerillas from Rhode Island proves. They point this weapon at those who normally wield it. Politicians, television companies and time and again the military are the target, the victims, of the brilliant video samplings of EBN. With hard beats, brutal cutting and an uncompromising live performance, EBN shows the way forward to a pro-active attitude in the age of information that not only challenges the image of the media, but can also transform it.
With revolutions every minute in entertainment and creative technology; audio-visual manipulation software, the advances brought about by digital encoding, optical transfer and digital storage and the new entertainment systems that these advances are creating, there has to be a new take on what is providing the entertainment. It’s all very well having flat screen surround audio-visual in every room of your house, operated from a remote control and beamed direct into your control box by a satellite that’s transmitting the signal from an optical disc being accessed in Houston, but are you really going to get excited by another Rolling Stone reunion plastered all over your walls once the millennium is just a memory of a well spent defence budget?
Enter Emergency Broadcast Network, the first of a new strain, perched somewhere between a band, a DJ and MTV. They’ve been under construction since Pearson met Gardner Post [Systems Manager] at Rhode Island School Of Design over ten years ago, where they began collaborating on multimedia "press conferences" featuring painting, sculpture and video. Defying the usual conventions of film, RAGE is the new cinematic creation from writer-director Sally Potter. Using a radical narrative structure focused entirely on individual performances, RAGE a dynamic series of interviews, as if shot by a schoolboy on his mobile phone, behind the scenes of a New York fashion show during a dramatic week.
Fourteen characters each have a role in the show, from the designer (Simon Abkarian) and his models (Lily Cole and Jude Law), the fashion critic (Judi Dench) and photographer (Steve Buscemi), to the financier (Eddie Izzard) and his bodyguard (John Leguizamo).

Introduction:
The following is a sociological experiment of the effective influence of broadcast television sub-channel communication: O + K.2 [CPM= GRP x 1000/aHH + s] = n (participant HH).
Knowledge is power; the power of knowing how things work, and how to work them, is power at work. Humans are creatures of routine habits, mostly seeking the simplest means of accomplishing things while using the least amount of energy. Society’s lessons learned by those who grew-up with TV: Television is the greatest persuader, then and now. People want what’s seen on TV, the manufactured desires of ease, that causes people to drive rather than walk, Google rather than searching through an alphabetical directory, microwave rather than bake, and use an electronic calculator rather than a pencil. What’s a phonebook used for, anyhow? When people want to learn about something, they ask someone to “show them, or teach them how,” or learn from watching a television set. People prefer to learn any other way, than reading the words of written manuals with time-consuming boring in-depth instructions or directions. Relaxing by reading a good book is no longer the culturally favored leisure practiced by many in American society, today. Some researchers believe this phenomenon is a byproduct of an American school system that focuses on the “right answer, and pleasing authority figures,” or are media creating behavioral-engineered responses of human desire conjured-up by spin-masters hell bent of selling products not needed (Choi, 2010; Goldsworthy & Morris, 2008; Huffington, 2010; Pink, 2010; Wadsworth, 1998)? If television truly influences behavior, then allow it to help educate society on demand.
Purpose of study:
The purpose of this qualitative and quantitative study is to identify the efficiency and effectiveness of advertising on sub-channel broadcast television stations in San Antonio, Texas area of dominant influence (ADI), by performing an analysis with valid empirical data and qualitative interviews approach to an informal research methodology in testing a hypothesis (Stacks, 2002): HQ: If a grocery provider “O” and a single broadcast station, “K.2,” (limitations) were to offer cardholders of redeemable government food stamps program (the dependent variables), special discount offers exclusively for ‘sub-canal’ watchers – “aHH + s,” (stimulus) who saw the ads watching a single sub-channel during a 60-day period (latency), and called-in or logged-into website (reaction) with special word (trigger) to receive a free magnetic discount coupon tracking card (incentive) from the broadcast TV station. This experiment is testing the effectiveness of promotional communication between a station and merchant to an audience and consumer in order to determine a count that could be calculated into an estimate cost per thousand (CPM), for the sub-channel “K.2.” Note: Possible collateral effect may cause station branding to occur. Therefore, O + K.2 [CPM= GRP x 1000/aHH + s] = n (participant HH).
Research Questions:
RQ1: Does advertising or promoting a product on a broadcast OTA sub-channels prove to have a better cost per thousand (CPM), and greater value to a social-economic minded-audiences who rely on TV to keep informed, during the aftermath of “The Great Recession of 2008?”
RQ2: Is the present national economic status causing households to abandon pay TV to seek alternative sources for television programming acquisition? Is American households tuning-in to over-the-air OTA television signal (antenna), or watching streaming Internet TV (broadband), or capturing smart-phone downloads (podcast)?
RQ3: Has the influence of the Internet help change viewers perspective about conducting business using digital television? What is the future of OTA broadcast sub-channels, and fulfilling its promises from the past?
Methodology of quasi-experimental disposition.
Phase I, Area of study:
It is important to understand the unique characteristics of the demographics of the areas of dominant influence (ADI) selected for this experiment. Introduction:
The following is a sociological experiment of the effective influence of broadcast television sub-channel communication: O + K.2 [CPM= GRP x 1000/aHH + s] = n (participant HH).
Knowledge is power; the power of knowing how things work, and how to work them, is power at work. Humans are creatures of routine habits, mostly seeking the simplest means of accomplishing things while using the least amount of energy. Society’s lessons learned by those who grew-up with TV: Television is the greatest persuader, then and now. People want what’s seen on TV, the manufactured desires of ease, that causes people to drive rather than walk, Google rather than searching through an alphabetical directory, microwave rather than bake, and use an electronic calculator rather than a pencil. What’s a phonebook used for, anyhow? When people want to learn about something, they ask someone to “show them, or teach them how,” or learn from watching a television set. People prefer to learn any other way, than reading the words of written manuals with time-consuming boring in-depth instructions or directions. Relaxing by reading a good book is no longer the culturally favored leisure practiced by many in American society, today. Some researchers believe this phenomenon is a byproduct of an American school system that focuses on the “right answer, and pleasing authority figures,” or are media creating behavioral-engineered responses of human desire conjured-up by spin-masters hell bent of selling products not needed (Choi, 2010; Goldsworthy & Morris, 2008; Huffington, 2010; Pink, 2010; Wadsworth, 1998)? If television truly influences behavior, then allow it to help educate society on demand.
Purpose of study:
The purpose of this qualitative and quantitative study is to identify the efficiency and effectiveness of advertising on sub-channel broadcast television stations in San Antonio, Texas area of dominant influence (ADI), by performing an analysis with valid empirical data and qualitative interviews approach to an informal research methodology in testing a hypothesis (Stacks, 2002): HQ: If a grocery provider “O” and a single broadcast station, “K.2,” (limitations) were to offer cardholders of redeemable government food stamps program (the dependent variables), special discount offers exclusively for ‘sub-canal’ watchers – “aHH + s,” (stimulus) who saw the ads watching a single sub-channel during a 60-day period (latency), and called-in or logged-into website (reaction) with special word (trigger) to receive a free magnetic discount coupon tracking card (incentive) from the broadcast TV station. This experiment is testing the effectiveness of promotional communication between a station and merchant to an audience and consumer in order to determine a count that could be calculated into an estimate cost per thousand (CPM), for the sub-channel “K.2.” Note: Possible collateral effect may cause station branding to occur. Therefore, O + K.2 [CPM= GRP x 1000/aHH + s] = n (participant HH).
Research Questions:
RQ1: Does advertising or promoting a product on a broadcast OTA sub-channels prove to have a better cost per thousand (CPM), and greater value to a social-economic minded-audiences who rely on TV to keep informed, during the aftermath of “The Great Recession of 2008?”
RQ2: Is the present national economic status causing households to abandon pay TV to seek alternative sources for television programming acquisition? Is American households tuning-in to over-the-air OTA television signal (antenna), or watching streaming Internet TV (broadband), or capturing smart-phone downloads (podcast)?
RQ3: Has the influence of the Internet help change viewers perspective about conducting business using digital television? What is the future of OTA broadcast sub-channels, and fulfilling its promises from the past?

F-4 tornadoes have sustained winds from 166 to 200 mph. This tornado was about twice as wide as the tornado that struck Moore on May 3, 1999. Moore is located 10 miles south of Oklahoma City. Before, during and after the tornado, satellites provided imagery and data to forecasters. The first tornado warning was issued around 2:40 p.m. CDT (local time). By 3:01 p.m. CDT a tornado emergency was issued for Moore, and 35 minutes later at 3:36 p.m. CDT, the tornado spun down and dissipated. NASA's Aqua satellite captured a visible-light image that provided a detailed look at the supercell thunderstorm. NOAA's GOES-13 satellite provided continuously updated satellite imagery depicting the storm's movement. After the tornado, the NASA-NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite's lightning observations showed that the thunderstorm complex was still active after nightfall.NOAA's GOES-13 satellite provided forecasters with images of the storm system every 15 minutes. One GOES-13 satellite image was captured at 19:55 UTC (2:55 p.m. CDT) as the tornado began its deadly swath. The tornado was generated near the bottom of a line of clouds resembling an exclamation mark. The GOES-13 satellite imagery from the entire day was assembled into an animation by the NASA GOES Project at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. Four minutes after the tornado dissipated (19:40 UTC / 3:40 p.m. EDT), the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite captured a visible image of the supercell thunderstorm that spawned the Moore tornado. That image was created by the NASA Goddard MODIS Rapid Response Team and Adam Voiland, NASA Earth Observatory. Later as the storm system continued through the region, another satellite captured an image of the storm at night that showed it was still powerful.
