In 1992, the Viscounts were mainly used for freight and oil industry support from Aberdeen with some passenger charters. The last scheduled passenger service will feature in a future video .

"The Cloven Viscount" - a video by Maria Korporal
The video has been inspired by the novel "The Cloven Viscount" by Italo Calvino.
The story "The Cloven Viscount" begins with a desolate landscape and a war scene. These two images are found in the video in a walk among rocks, dirt and fragments of sculptures, accompanied by the hum of insects. The invisible walker stops at a human head sculpture, which is unexpectedly split in two. From the two halves of the head sprout two wings, one of a devil and the other one of an angel, flying along a road that seems endless. In the black furrow that divides the head appears a red thread. At that point, the artist's hands intervene: with needle and thread they reconnect the two halves.

La storia “Il visconte dimezzato” inizia con un paesaggio desolato e una scena di guerra. Queste due immagini si ritrovano nel video in una camminata tra pietre, immondizia e frammenti di sculture, accompagnata dal ronzio degli insetti. Il camminatore invisibile si ferma davanti a una testa d’uomo in pietra, che all’improvviso viene strappata in due. Dalla testa dimezzata spuntano due ali, una da diavolo e l’altra da angelo, che spiccano il volo lungo una strada che sembra infinita. Nel solco nero che divide la testa appare un filo rosso. A quel punto intervengono le mani dell’artista: con ago e filo riuniscono le due metà.

Viscount
A viscount (
i/ˈvaɪkaʊnt/ VY-kownt, for male) or viscountess (/ˈvaɪkaʊntɪs/, for female) is a title used in certain European countries for a noble of varying status, but historically deemed to convey a lower-middling rank.
In many countries a 'viscount', and its historical equivalents, was a non-hereditary, administrative or judicial position, and did not develop into an hereditary title until much later.
Etymology
The word viscount comes from Old French visconte (modern French: vicomte), itself from Medieval Latin vicecomitem, accusative of vicecomes, from Late Latin vice- "deputy" + Latin comes (originally "companion"; later Roman imperial courtier or trusted appointee, ultimately count).
History
During the Carolingian Empire, the kings appointed 'counts' to administer provinces and other smaller regions, as governors and military commanders. 'Viscounts' were appointed to assist the counts in their running of the province, and often took on judicial responsibility. The kings strictly prevented the offices of their counts and viscounts from becoming hereditary, in order to consolidate their position and limit chance of rebellion.

The Cloven Viscount
The Cloven Viscount (Italian: Il visconte dimezzato) is a fantasy novel written by Italo Calvino. It was first published by Einaudi (Turin) in 1952 and in English in 1962 by William Collins, with a translation by Archibald Colquhoun.
Plot
The Viscount Medardo of Terralba, and his squire Kurt, ride across the plague-ravaged plain of Bohemia en route to join the Christian army in the Turkish wars of the seventeenth century. On the first day of fighting, a Turkish swordsman unhorses the inexperienced Viscount. Fearless, he scrambles over the battlefield with sword bared, and is split in two by a cannonball hitting him square in the chest.
As a result of the injury, Viscount Medardo becomes two people: Gramo (the Bad) and Buono (the Good). The army field doctors save Gramo through a stitching miracle, the Viscount is “alive and cloven.” With one eye and a dilated single nostril, he returns to Terralba, twisting the half mouth of his half face into a scissors-like half smile. Meanwhile, a group of hermits find Buono in the midst of a pile of dead bodies. They tend to him and he recovers. After a long pilgrimage, Buono returns home.

Vickers Viscount
The Vickers Viscount was a British medium-range turboprop airliner first flown in 1948 by Vickers-Armstrongs, the first such aircraft to enter service in the world. A product of the Brabazon Committee, it used a new form of propulsion, the turboprop engine, replacing the conventional piston engine.
The Viscount was well received by the public for its cabin conditions, which included pressurisation, reductions in vibration and noise, and panoramic windows. It became one of the most successful and profitable of the first post-war transport aircraft; 445 Viscounts were built for a range of international customers, including in North America.
Development
Origins
The Viscount was a response to the Brabazon Committee's Type II design for a post-war small medium-range pressurised aircraft to fly less-travelled routes, carrying 24 passengers up to 1,750 mi (2,816 km) at 200 mph (320 km/h). During discussions between the committee and Vickers' chief designer, Rex Pierson, Vickers advocated turboprop power. The committee was not convinced and split the specification into two types, the Type IIA using piston power, which led to the Airspeed Ambassador, and the turboprop-powered Type IIB which Vickers was selected to develop in April 1945.British European Airways (BEA) was involved in the design and asked that the aircraft carry 32 passengers instead, but remained otherwise similar.

Darkest Dungeon
Darkest Dungeon is a roguelike, dungeon crawler video game created by indie game developer Red Hook Studios. The game, following an Early Access development period, was released on January 19, 2016 for Microsoft Windows and OS X, with a release for PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita consoles a few months later. Linux release is also planned at a later date.
Darkest Dungeon has the player manage a roster of heroes to explore dungeons below a gothic mansion the player has inherited. Played out in a mix of real-time movement and turn-based combat, a core feature of Darkest Dungeon is the stress level of each hero that increases with further exploration and combat; a character sustaining a high stress level may gain afflictions that will hamper, or possibly enhance, their performance as an explorer. This concept was drawn into the game by the developer based on film characters that suffer from the traumas of combat stress such as from Aliens or Band of Brothers.
Plot
At the outset of Darkest Dungeon, the player learns that they have inherited an estate from a relative who, while seeking fame and fortune by excavating the dungeons and catacombs beneath their manor, has unearthed portals to dark dimensions and released a number of horrific and evil creatures onto the world. Cowardly, the relative took his own life rather than deal with his mistake. As the current owner of the estate and the surrounding lands, the player must recruit a roster of adventurers and mount expeditions to cleanse the estate of its vile inhabitants.

The Harvard Crimson
The Harvard Crimson, the daily student newspaper of Harvard University, was founded in 1873. It is the only daily newspaper in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is run entirely by Harvard College undergraduates. Many Crimson alumni have gone on to careers in journalism, and some have won Pulitzer Prizes.
About The Crimson
Any student who volunteers and completes a series of requirements known as the "comp" is elected an editor of the newspaper. Thus, all staff members of The Crimson—including writers, business staff, photographers, and graphic designers—are technically "editors". (If an editor makes news, he or she is referred to in the paper's news article as a "Crimson editor", which, though important for transparency, also leads to characterizations such as "former President John F. Kennedy '40, who was also a Crimson editor, ended the Cuban Missile Crisis.") Plot: 'The Count of Monte Cristo' is a remake of the Alexander Dumas tale by the same name. Plot: A costume drama / satire about financial skull-duggery, and confidence tricksters in both the upper and lower classes in Victorian London. A working class man impersonates a lord who is supposedly very rich and a financial wizard. As such he is invited to all the best peoples' parties. In fact he is not and his wealth and expertise are more in the minds of his associates than in reality. Interestingly, despite the large social gap between the two classes, there are many similarities in what goes on in both within this story. This can be seen as the main character switches back and forth between his charade as a peer and his real self.

"The Cloven Viscount" - a video by Maria Korporal The video has been inspired by the novel "The Cloven Viscount" by Italo Calvino. The story "The Cloven Viscount" begins with a desolate landscape and a war scene. These two images are found in the video in a walk among rocks, dirt and fragments of sculptures, accompanied by the hum of insects. The invisible walker stops at a human head sculpture, which is unexpectedly split in two. From the two halves of the head sprout two wings, one of a devil and the other one of an angel, flying along a road that seems endless. In the black furrow that divides the head appears a red thread. A very condensed version is - that it was named in memory of a popular Journalist / Photographer, shortly after his death in an air accident. Soon after this, it was written off in an accident of its own. A team of enthusiast lead by Ray Piercey, raised funds to rescue and restore it (at Brooklands Museum). This has now been done and on the fiftieth birthday of its first commercial flight, a group of friends visited Ray and his wife to celebrate. It is unlikely that this Video will mean much to you, if you do not know the incredible story behind this very famous Vickers Aircraft.
A very condensed version is - that it was named in memory of a popular Journalist / Photographer, shortly after his death in an air accident. Soon after this, it was written off in an accident of its own. A team of enthusiast lead by Ray Piercey, raised funds to rescue and restore it (at Brooklands Museum).
This has now been done and on the fiftieth birthday of its first commercial flight, a group of friends visited Ray and his wife to celebrate.
Its first flight had been London to Barcelona and the Capt. on that first flight had been Ray Piercey. Ray is also the father of the person it was named after, his Son Stephen.

Most people associate the name of Cowdray with polo, but it has long been a major estate on the edge of Midhurst, West Sussex. The sombre ruins of the original ...
Most people associate the name of Cowdray with polo, but it has long been a major estate on the edge of Midhurst, West Sussex. The sombre ruins of the original Cowdray Castle are clearly visible close to the town, looking a little like the setting for a horror film. The building of Cowdray Castle started during the early 16th Century. In 1542, following the Dissolution of the Roman Catholic Church, Henry the Eighth awarded the castle to one Sir Anthony Browne, Master of the Horse. This was a little strange since Browne was a staunch Roman Catholic. Browne died in 1548.
Cowdray Castle saw its heyday in the time of Browne's son, Sir Anthony Browne the Second. An important man in the court of Queen Elizabeth the First, he was highly trusted by the Queen and sent by her on missions overseas to act on her behalf. Browne entertained the Queen at long parties held at Cowdray in her honour, parties that lasted for days with great banquets and entertainment.
But all was not well for - some might say - the family was living on borrowed time.
At the time that the first Anthony Browne had been awarded Cowdray he took control also of Battle Abbey (in East Sussex). After razing many of the church buildings to the ground he evicted the monks and, as a result, was cursed by the last monk of Battle Abbey who said that his family line would perish by fire or water.
Just over 250 years later in 1793 the 8th Viscount Montague, descendant of the Browne family, was drowned in a boating accident - trying to shoot a waterfall on the River Rhine. A week later Cowdray burned to the ground, leaving the ruins we see today. (An alternative account puts events in the other order - that the house was burned down by workmen preparing for the homecoming and wedding of Viscount Montague, and that he died abroad one month later immediately after receiving a letter telling him of the fire).
The Cowdray estate passed to the Viscount's sister who married and had two sons. They were drowned in a boating accident in 1815.
Coincidences - or something more?
This Memorial Temple lies in the Cowdray estate a short distance outside Midhurst - at Benbow Pond on the road towards Petworth.
Built in 2000, it was erected in memory of the late Viscount Cowdray the Third.
It is surrounded by an arboretum, and public access will be allowed once the arboretum has grown.
