Broad City season 4 to bleep out Donald Trump's name: 'No airtime for this orange'

Show comments

Broad City is fighting back against Donald Trump not by poking fun at his presidency, but by censoring his name altogether.

The American sitcom, which returns to Comedy Central in several weeks, has in the past included a guest appearance by former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Trailer: Broad City Season 4

Broad City follows Ilana and Abbi, two Jewish American women in their twenties living in New York City.

Speaking to USA Today, the show's co-creator and star Ilana Glazer said season four originally looked very different to what viewers will see in two months' time.

"We wrote [it] like, 'Here we go, Hillary for president!" she said. "[But after] this game-show host became president of our country, we rewrote a lot."

But that doesn't mean the show won't acknowledge Clinton's surprise loss in the November poll.

Glazer said one story arc will revolve around the fact her character, Ilana Wexler, finds it hard to orgasm under the current administration because she can't stop thinking about how many people are in danger.

Meanwhile, an ongoing gag will see the president's name bleeped out as though it is a swear word.

"There's no airtime for this orange," Glazer said. "We bleep his name the whole season."

Broad City season four is due to hit television screens in August. The latest iteration of the sitcom is set to feature guest appearances from the likes of Shania Twain and Rupaul.
