Samantha Stosur to pull out of Wimbledon: reports

Samantha Stosur appears set to miss Wimbledon after revelations she has stress fractures in her right hand.

The Australian was racing to regain fitness to compete at the All England club next month, after her French Open campaign was cruelled by the hand injury.

Stosur, 33, was hampered during her three-set loss to eventual winner Jelena Ostapenko in the fourth-round at Roland Garros on June 4.

Scans have now revealed the extent of the injury, News Corp Australia reports.

The world No.34 has also reportedly pulled out of the Wimbledon lead-up event in Eastbourne, beginning next week.

Stosur, who last week relinquished Australia's No.1 ranking she'd held since October 2008 to Daria Gavrilova, has never progressed past the third round of Wimbledon in 14 attempts.

Ashleigh Barty cruised through to the quarter-finals of the Nottingham Open after defeating Jana Fett of Croatia 6-2, 6-1. The rising Australian will meet top seed Johanna Konta of Great Britian in the next round.

Other Australian hopefuls lost overnight on the grasscourt circuit. Bernard Tomic collapsed after a tight opening set to crash out of the Stuttgart International to third seed Tomas Berdych.

The Czech world No.14 took the opener in a tiebreak before Tomic dropped three straight games in the second to lose 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.

Berdych's victory lifted his perfect record over Tomic to 5-0 but he nonetheless paid tribute to the Australian after another tough encounter.

"It was good, it was a very good match," he said.

"He plays a very different style.

"We played already four times before, all of them were battles but today was probably the easiest.

"I was ready, I was prepared and I think that's why I deserve the win.

"He's a very different player, very talented and very good touch in the hand but I found my weapons and I played better."

Thanasi Kokkinakis lost 7-6, 6-3 to fellow 21-year-old Daniil Medvedev of Russia at the Den Bosch Open in the Netherlands.
