I thought that it may be of benefit for anyone who is learning the Goldberg Variations to listen to who is (probably) its foremost interpreter's seminal 1981 recording along with the score. I know such an exercise has helped me no end in the past. This is the theme (the Aria), I'll do the rest of the work, variation by variation until we get to all thirty!
THE ARIA
The aria is a sarabande in 3/4 time, and features a heavily ornamented melody:
The French style of ornamentation suggests that the ornaments are supposed to be parts of the melody, however some performers (for example Wilhelm Kempff on piano) omit some or all ornaments and present the aria unadorned.
Peter Williams opines in 'Bach: The Goldberg Variations' that this is not the theme at all, but actually the first variation (a view emphasising the idea of the work as a chaconne rather than a piece in true variation form).

Finally I have taken the time to review this guitar properly. Aria Pro II model YS-500, made in Japan, 1981, from the Matsumoku guitar factory. I wonder how many of these lefty YS-500 are still around today.
Actually, now that I have thought about it, the P-Rails can produce more than 4 types of sounds. I forgot to mention about the out-of-phase wiring in the video, where the single coil and P90 cancel each other out.

Matsumoku built electric spanish, kind of ES345. Probably 1981, revering to the serial number. Still in good condition. Machine heads are Schallers, not original. Plays smooth. The rotary switch detracts highs or lows from the pickups. Don't know if that's very usefull. As far as I know the only footage about this particular guitar on the internet. Well, there is another one, but from a year later. In my opinion that is not the same model, it is more a kind of Titan Artist (TA). Played through a Fender Champ 1976, v=2, t=7, b=5.

Aria
An aria ([ˈaːrja]; Italian: air; plural: arie [ˈaːrje], or arias in common usage, diminutive form arietta [aˈrjetta]) in music was originally any expressive melody, usually, but not always, performed by a singer. The term became used almost exclusively to describe a self-contained piece for one voice, with or without orchestral accompaniment, normally part of a larger work. The typical context for arias is opera, but vocal arias also feature in oratorios and cantatas, sharing features of the operatic arias of their periods.
Origins of the term
The term, which derives from the Greek and Latin 'aer' (air) first appeared in relation to music in the 14th century when it simply signified a manner or style of singing or playing. By the end of the 16th century, the term 'aria' refers to an instrumental form (cf. Santino Garsi da Parma lute works, 'Aria del Gran Duca' ). By the early 16th century it was in common use as meaning a simple setting of strophic poetry; melodic madrigals, free of complex polyphony, were known as madrigale arioso.

Glenn Gould
Glenn Herbert Gould (25 September 1932 – 4 October 1982) was a Canadian pianist who became one of the best-known and most celebrated classical pianists of the 20th century. He was particularly renowned as an interpreter of the keyboard music of Johann Sebastian Bach. His playing was distinguished by remarkable technical proficiency and capacity to articulate the polyphonic texture of Bach's music.
After his adolescence, Gould rejected most of the standard Romantic piano literature including Liszt, Schumann, and Chopin. Although his recordings were dominated by Bach, Gould's repertoire was diverse, including works by Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Brahms, pre-Baroque composers such as Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Orlando Gibbons and William Byrd, and such 20th-century composers as Paul Hindemith, Arnold Schoenberg and Richard Strauss. Gould was well known for various eccentricities, from his unorthodox musical interpretations and mannerisms at the keyboard to aspects of his lifestyle and personal behaviour. He stopped giving concerts at the age of 31 to concentrate on studio recording and other projects. Gould was the first pianist to record any of Liszt's piano transcriptions of Beethoven's symphonies (beginning with the Fifth Symphony, in 1967).

Goldberg Variations
The Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, is a work written for harpsichord by Johann Sebastian Bach, consisting of an aria and a set of 30 variations. First published in 1741, the work is considered to be one of the most important examples of variation form. The Variations are named after Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, who may have been the first performer.
Composition
The tale of how the variations came to be composed comes from an early biography of Bach by Johann Nikolaus Forkel:
Forkel wrote his biography in 1802, more than 60 years after the events related, and its accuracy has been questioned. The lack of dedication on the title page also makes the tale of the commission unlikely. Goldberg's age at the time of publication (14 years) has also been cited as grounds for doubting Forkel's tale, although it must be said that he was known to be an accomplished keyboardist and sight-reader. Williams (2001) contends that the Forkel story is entirely spurious.
Arnold Schering has suggested that the aria on which the variations are based was not written by Bach. More recent scholarly literature (such as the edition by Christoph Wolff) suggests that there is no basis for such doubts.

I forgot to mention about the out-of-phase wiring in the video, where the single coil and P90 cancel each other out. -

Matsumoku built electric spanish, kind of ES345. Probably 1981, revering to the serial number. Still in good condition. Machine heads are Schallers, not original. Plays smooth. The rotary switch detracts highs or lows from the pickups. Don't know if that's very usefull. As far as I know the only footage about this particular guitar on the internet. Well, there is another one, but from a year later. In my opinion that is not the same model, it is more a kind of Titan Artist (TA). Played through a Fender Champ 1976, v=2, t=7, b=5.

☼Proyección fue precisamente un "proyecto" de la escuela de música que dirigía Ulises Hermosa, uno de los pilares principales de la legendaria agrupación Los Kjarkas que a finales de los 70 reunió a unos jóvenes talentos formándose así el grupo Proyección-Kjarkas, algunos de esos integrantes son hoy figuras del folklore muy reconocidas: Orlando Jiménez, Yuri Ortuño, Fernando Torrico y Edwin Castellanos, los dos últimos pasarían más adelante a formar parte de Los Kjarkas en su etapa más prolífica e importante, y más adelante formarían ellos dos el dúo Tupay. El cuarteto se presenta oficialmente en Cochabamba en 1980 y graban dos discos: Proyección-Kjarkas y Mis penas.
☼En 1984 Torrico y Castellanos se pasan a Los Kjarkas y la agrupación se independiza, pasándose a llamar Proyección, con el gran compositor Yuri Ortuño como director, y con las nuevas incorporaciones de Raúl Muriel y quien hoy está considerado la primera guitarra criolla de Latinoamérica: Rafael Arias, célebre integrante también de Savia Andina y del dúo Sentimiento. Ese mismo año graban su primer LP No vuelvo a amar, que fue todo un éxito de ventas.
☼Sin embargo la agrupación aún no estaba definida, en 1986 Proyección graba Amamé, donde además de Yuri y Orlando, intervienen Adolfo Rodríguez García, Gustavo Fajardo y el gran charanguista Alfredo Coca, en otra de sus innumerables colaboraciones con grupos folklóricos. A partir de 1987, cuando graban Solo por tu amor, Proyección mantiene su formación clásica: Yuri Ortuño, Orlando Jiménez, Miguel Mengoa, Eduardo Yáñez y de nuevo Raúl Muriel.
☼La trayectoria de Proyección sufre un punto de inflexión con el abandono de Yuri por problemas personales en 1995, su portentosa voz es sustituida ahora por Boris Flores Crespo, también se incorpora el charanguista Ariel Villazón, siendo entonces el director Orlando Jiménez, el único integrante que se ha mantenido permanentemente y sin pausa en Proyección.

Bakgrundshistorien till den femte symfonin, som Beethoven själv ska ha berättat, är att han väcks mitt i natten av att det knackar på hans dörr. Men när han går och öppnar finns ingen där. Beethoven led hela livet av en svår hörselnedsättning som successivt övergick i total dövhet. En tragedi för vem som helst, men i synnerhet för en tonsättare.
Han tänker att det är Ödet som har knackat på hans dörr och skriver 1804 -1807 den magnifika femte symfonin. Den uruppförs i Wien i december 1808 och kommer att kallas "Ödessymfonin". I första satsen, Allegro con brio, hör vi de tydliga knackningarna på dörren, och de upprepas som gång på gång som symfonins tema.
Beethovens knacktema får i den här podden symbolisera bankningarna på min dörr och de upprepade trakasserier i form av oannonserade hembesök som Expo- och HBTQ-aktivisten Annika Hamrud och DN-journalisten Niklas Orrenius utsatte mig för under ett års tid.
Nej, det var inte Ödet som knackade på min dörr. Det var två journalister, utsända av två av Sveriges största tidningar, som ville röja min identitet och skrämma mig till tystnad. I september 2015 hängdes jag ut med namn och bilder i Expressen. En skampublicering som är unik i svensk press, eftersom Expressen också lämnade ut privata uppgifter om min hälsa. Mina diagnoser publiceras och ogiltigförklaras. Jag framställs som inbillningssjuk och otillräknelig. En galning. En icke-människa.
Alla media hakar på. Alla vill slänga sina egna vedpinnar på medias häxbål. I mer än 3 000 inlägg på Flashback flödar det ohöljda föraktet för sjukdom och svaghet och hat och hån mot mig som funktionshindrad.
Jag som har gjort de båda poddreportagen är journalist och författare och arbetar under pseudonymen Julia Caesar. Jag har arbetat som journalist i dagspress i många år och skriver sedan 2010 krönikor på den danska bloggen Snaphanen.
Det här är min berättelse om hur det är att stå mitt i ett mediedrev. Att avhumaniseras och framställas som ondskan personifierad. Att utsättas för hatstormar och hot från människor som vill ta livet av mig med mjältbrand. Eller krossa mitt ansikte tills det blir mjukt som skumgummi.
Det handlar om hur det är att inte kunna bo kvar hemma utan tvingas flacka runt och sova på olika platser varje natt med ett polislarm som enda trygghet.

I september 2015 hängdes jag ut med namn och bilder i Expressen. En skampublicering som är unik i svensk press, eftersom Expressen också lämnade ut privata uppgifter om min hälsa. Mina diagnoser publiceras och ogiltigförklaras. Jag framställs som inbillningssjuk och otillräknelig. En galning. En icke-människa.
Alla media hakar på. Alla vill slänga sina egna vedpinnar på medias häxbål. I mer än 3 000 inlägg på Flashback flödar det ohöljda föraktet för sjukdom och svaghet och hat och hån mot mig som funktionshindrad.
Jag som har gjort de båda poddreportagen är journalist och författare och arbetar under pseudonymen Julia Caesar. Jag har arbetat som journalist i dagspress i många år och skriver sedan 2010 krönikor på den danska bloggen Snaphanen.
Det här är min berättelse om hur det är att stå mitt i ett mediedrev. Att avhumaniseras och framställas som ondskan personifierad. Att utsättas för hatstormar och hot från människor som vill ta livet av mig med mjältbrand. Eller krossa mitt ansikte tills det blir mjukt som skumgummi.
Det handlar om hur det är att inte kunna bo kvar hemma utan tvingas flacka runt och sova på olika platser varje natt med ett polislarm som enda trygghet.
