Lewis Calvin "Lew" DeWitt (March 12, 1938 - August 15, 1990) was an American country music singer and composer. He was also a well known country music guitarist and gospel tenor singer and was a founder and original tenor of The Statler Brothers.
For most of his career, DeWitt sang tenor for The Statler Brothers. Songs he wrote for the group include "Flowers on the Wall" which was a greatest hit during the late 60s and early 70s that made The Statler Brothers popular, "Things," "Since Then," "Thank You World," "The Strand," "The Movies," and "Chet Atkins' Hand." In November 1981, DeWitt took a leave of absence from the band due to surgery and treatment for Crohn's disease, from which he had suffered since adolescence. At his suggestion, Jimmy Fortune was tapped as his temporary replacement. He would rejoin the group in June of the following year (with Fortune having been offered a permanent position in the group's backing band), but this arrangement lasted less than a week. He officially retired that same month with Fortune becoming his permanent replacement.
"I've Been Everywhere" is a song which was written by Australian country singer Geoff Mack in 1959, and made popular by Lucky Starr in 1962.
The song (as originally written) listed Australian towns. It was later adapted by Canadian Hank Snow for North American (predominantly United States) toponyms, by Australian singer Rolf Harris with English and Scottish toponyms (1963), and by John Hore (later known as John Grenell) with New Zealand toponyms (1966).
In 1962, the song was a number-one US country hit for American recording artist, Hank Snow. The song was also recorded by Lynn Anderson (USA 1970), Asleep at the Wheel (USA 1973), Johnny Cash (USA 1996), Chip Dockery, Ted Egan, Little Jan Buckner of Wendy Bagwell & The Sunliters (USA 1972), the "Farrelly Brothers" from the television series The Aunty Jack Show (Australia 1974, a parody version, on the album Aunty Jack Sings Wollongong),John Grenell (NZ 1966), Mike Ford (Canada, 2005), Rolf Harris (UK 1963), Clifton Jansky, The Sunny Cowgirls and the Statler Brothers. Harvey Reid also included the song in his Dreamer or Believer album.

The Statler Brothers (sometimes referred to in country music circles as simply The Statlers) were an American country music, gospel, and vocal group. The quartet was founded in 1955 and began their career backing Johnny Cash.
Originally performing gospel music at local churches, the group billed themselves as The Four Star Quartet, and later The Kingsmen. In 1963, when the song "Louie, Louie" by the garage rock band also called The Kingsmen became famous, the group elected to bill themselves as The Statler Brothers. Despite the name, only two members of the group (Don and Harold Reid) are actual brothers and none have the surname of Statler. The band, in fact, named themselves after a brand of facial tissue they had noticed in a hotel room (they joked that they could have turned out to be the Kleenex Brothers).Don Reid sang lead; Harold Reid, Don's older brother, sang bass; Phil Balsley sang baritone; and Lew DeWitt sang tenor and was the guitarist of the Statlers before being replaced by Jimmy Fortune in 1983 due to DeWitt's ill health. DeWitt died on August 15, 1990, of heart and kidney disease, stemming from complications of Crohn's disease.

I didn't see this here in its entirety, so here's Lew's first solo release after breaking with The Statlers, the self-released cassette "Here To Stay". (Track listing after the notes...) This was recorded locally with, I guess, The Star City Band (his backup group.) There's not much info beyond what is printed on the insert. (To think there was a time when Lew was only a phone call away...) As stated, this has been sourced from a cassette and there are some wow and flutter issues. I made all the necessary adjustments but the problems lie in how these tapes were manufactured... Anyway, I hope you like this in spite of the technical shortcomings. AUGUST, 1990 - A short announcement from the then NASHVILLE NETWORK concerning the untimely passing of my most favorite person in the world, LEW DeWITT. I spoke to Denver (Lew's eldest son and my nephew) the other nite about posting this. He gave me his blessing. I haven't had the chance to speak with Donna (MOTOR), Brian (LURBURT) or Shannon (SHINANNAGINS) about posting it just yet. If there's a problem, I'll take it down. I just thought that those who knew him, were fans, friends, or whatever, and hadn't seen this before might be interested. I apologize for the quality of the video. There was not much I could do to improve upon it. Excepting for a quick fade in and out to black, all else is just as it was transmitted on TNN on that sad and mournful day back in August, 1990. Lew actually wrote this song that was made popular by the Statler Brothers. He included it in his album, On My Own after retiring from the group. He later died in August of 1990.

The late DeWitt (1938-1990) is of course probably best known for his work with the Statler Brothers, their tenor singer up until his departure due to health problems in the early 80's. His solo work is quite good, although not terribly easy to come across. The only one of his solo singles to chart is this one, reaching a paltry #77 in 1985. Enjoy!
60 CYCLE HUM - performing "Hush" by Deep Purple - live at the closing concert of "Tony's Spotlight Tavern" in Tampa, Florida on March 1, 2008. The band's musician line up at that time featured . . . Lew was the original tenor for the Statler Brothers. He was forced to retire from the group due to an intestinal illness he had since birth that later killed him in 1990. During his short retirement years he recorded On My Own. This song was included on that album.

HP is an engineering company at its roots and the culture of the company if focused on identifying the problems that need to solve and organizing to solve them. "We believe convergence of infrastructure is necessary for the Star Trekian future to emerge." "Innovation in our world is about the fundamental transformation of a work process," said DeWitt. The world is now faced with the new style of IT and the differences are massive. We are now in a pos...
Katharine S. PRICHARD (1883 - 1969) The Pioneers is set against the background of pioneering life in the Gippsland region of Victoria in pre-Federation Australia. Mary and Donald Cameron are free-settlers who make a home in the wilderness and grow a prosperous cattle operation that establishes their position as prominent members of the new settlement. At first, the novel privileges Mary’s perspective as she encounters escaped convicts, bush fires, and raising a son in a remote community. Later, it follows her son, Davey, as he struggles for independence against his father’s harsh authority. Davey encounters further obstacles in the figure of local hotel owner, Thad McNab, who is determined that Davey’s childhood sweetheart, Deirdre, should be his own bride. (Summary by kirstyl)

The date on this record is 5-11-90, which is only three months before he passed away. "Moonset" did not reach the Billboard Country chart (Oak Records 1092).
The Statler Brothers sing "How Great Thou Art" from their "An Evening With The Statler Brothers" TV show. This is the one that has Lew DeWitt on it, it was taped shortly before he got too sick to travel with the Statlers any longer.
Cash pulls no punches with this song--titled "The Junkie's Prayer," written by Lew Dewitt of the Statler Brothers, about a subject Cash was all too familiar with himself--and the performance is unflinching and straight from the heart. From January 6, 1971. Thanks to gf530 for getting me the correct intel on this tune, and to Michael Lamont for suggesting edits in my remarks about the clip.
