Katie Paterson

Katie Paterson (1981) is a Berlin-based visual artist from Glasgow, Scotland whose multimedia artworks concern translation, distance, and scale. Paterson holds a BA from Edinburgh College of Art (2004) and an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art (2007), she is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Edinburgh (2013). Paterson is engaged to the artist Martin John Callanan.

Work

In one project she created a map of 27,000 known dead stars. Her ongoing project History of Darkness is a series of slides and photographs of the dark, all "numbered, and annotated with distance in light years from Earth." She has had solo exhibitions at Modern Art Oxford, Kettle's Yard Cambridge, Mead Gallery, Warwick Arts Centre,Selfridges, London, BAWAG Contemporary, Vienna,Haunch of Venison, London, PKM, Seoul. Paterson was the winner of a South Bank Sky Arts Award in 2014. and a Leverhulme Fellow at University College London. In July 2014, Paterson will send an artwork into space, to the International Space Station aboard ESA Georges Lemaître ATV (ATV-5).

Boeing 737 Next Generation

The Boeing 737 Next Generation, commonly abbreviated as 737NG, is the name given to the −600/-700/-800/-900 series of the Boeing 737 airliner. It is the third generation derivative of the 737, and follows the 737 Classic (−300/-400/-500) series, which began production in the 1980s. They are short- to medium-range, narrow-body jet airliners. Produced since 1996 by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the 737NG series includes four variants and can seat between 110 to 210 passengers.

A total of 5,419 737NG aircraft have been delivered by the end of May 2015, with more than 6,800 ordered. The -700, -800, and -900ER have unfilled orders and are being produced, but orders for -600 and -900 have been filled. The 737NG's primary competition is with the Airbus A320 family. Upgraded and re-engined models in development as the 737 MAX series will eventually supplant the 737NG.

Design and development

Background

Prompted by the development of the Airbus A320, which incorporated ground-breaking technologies such as fly-by-wire, in 1991 Boeing initiated development of an updated series of aircraft. After working with potential customers, the 737 Next Generation (NG) program was announced on November 17, 1993. The 737NG encompasses the −600, −700, −800 and −900 variants, and is to date the most significant upgrade of the airframe. The performance of the 737NG is essentially that of a new airplane, but important commonality is retained from previous 737 generations. The wing was modified, increasing its area by 25% and span by 16 ft (4.88 m), which increased the total fuel capacity by 30%. New quieter and more fuel-efficient CFM56-7B engines were used. These improvements combine to increase the 737's range by 900 nmi, permitting transcontinental service. A flight test program was operated by 10 aircraft: 3 -600s, 4 -700s, and 3 -800s.

Atlas Genius

Atlas Genius are an alternative rock band formed in Adelaide, South Australia in November 2009. The band's mainstay members are the Jeffery brothers, Keith on lead vocals and lead guitar; Michael on drums; and Darren Sell on keyboard. Their debut album, When It Was Now, was issued on 9 February 2013 and peaked at No. 34 on the United States Billboard 200. In 2013 two of their singles appeared on the related Alternative Songs Chart, "Trojans" (released in May 2011) at No. 4 and "If So" (February 2013) at No. 8. In 2013 the group toured the US in April and May, United Kingdom in May, and back to the US in August.

In 2015 they released their second studio album, Inanimate Objects.

History

Atlas Genius formed in November 2009 in Adelaide by three brothers, Keith William Hamilton Jeffery (born 10 March 1982) on lead vocals and lead guitar; Steven Roger Jeffery on bass guitar; and Michael Douglas Jeffery on drums. The name was provided by Michael "[he] had a dream, and the name came to him in a dream". Their father had been a guitarist in his own high school band. They cleared out the family's garage and started building a recording studio. They were joined by English-born Darren Norman Sell on keyboards. According to Keith their influences include The Beatles, Death Cab for Cutie, Beck, The Police, and Phoenix: "[a]s far as the music is concerned, we like to have space, sections where it breathes ... [i]t's hard for us to define our style of music being that we're inside the songs. I've noticed a lot of reviewers calling it Indie/Pop though". They gained a residency at a local pub, The Lion, which helped raise funds for their home studio.

SunExpress

Güneş Ekspress Havacılık A.Ş., doing business as SunExpress, is a Turkish airline based in Antalya. It operates scheduled and chartered passenger flights to various destinations in Europe, Asia and North Africa.

History

The airline was established in October 1989 and started operations in April 1990 with a charter service between Antalya and Frankfurt. SunExpress was founded as a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and the Lufthansa Group/Condor Flugdienst. In 1995, the Lufthansa Group transferred its SunExpress shares to Condor. All tourist flights operate under a single unit. In February 2007, all Condor shares were retaken by the Lufthansa Group.

The owners of SunExpress are Turkish Airlines and 50% the Lufthansa Group. With 886 employees the company is the largest employer in Antalya. SunExpress counts 393 employees in Izmir, 299 in Istanbul, 178 in Ankara, 42 in Anatolian cities and 334 in Frankfurt, Germany. The total SunExpress workforce number is 2.132 with other domestic bases.
