Rain on the way for eastern states, south-west WA

A rain band will move from west to east across Australia's eastern states from Wednesday to Saturday, with the highest rainfall totals expected in Queensland.
Bureau National Operations Centre Senior Meteorologist Scott Williams said smaller rain totals are also expected in areas of New South Wales and Victoria from Thursday, and in Tasmania from Saturday.

New tropical cyclone research delivers benefits to the oil and gas industry

New research from the Bureau of Meteorology, in partnership with oil and gas industry leaders, will deliver better tropical cyclone forecasts for offshore facilities – improving safety and reducing costs.

Heavy rainfall, potential flooding for coastal Queensland

An initial Flood Watch has been issued for Queensland coastal catchments from Cairns to Gladstone, including Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton, extending inland to include parts of the Burdekin and Fitzroy catchments.
Bureau of Meteorology Weather Services Manager, Richard Wardle, said the Flood Watches come ahead of a trough and associated heavy rainfall forecast to affect the state from late Wednesday.

Removal of the 'giant golf balls' at Met Building in Casuarina

Tomorrow the non-operational white domes on top of the Bureau of Meteorology's Darwin forecasting centre will be removed, changing the Casuarina building skyline.
The domes contained equipment for receiving satellite imagery used before the Bureau partnered with the Japan Meteorology Agency's to use the Himawari-8 satellite in 2015.
