David Robert Jones (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016), known as David Bowie (/ˈboʊ.i/), was an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, painter, and actor. He was a figure in popular music for over five decades, and was considered by critics and musicians as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. His career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, and his music and stagecraft significantly impacted popular music. During his lifetime, he sold an estimated 140 million records worldwide. In the UK, he was awarded nine platinum album certifications, eleven gold and eight silver, and released eleven number-one albums. In the US, he received five platinum and seven gold certifications. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
Los Angeles (i/lɒs ˈændʒəlᵻs/ loss AN-jə-ləs or loss AN-jə-liss) (Spanish for "The Angels"), officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-largest city in the United States after New York City, the most populous city in the state of California, and the county seat of Los Angeles County.
Situated in Southern California, Los Angeles is known for its mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity, sprawling metropolis, and as a major center of the American entertainment industry. Los Angeles lies in a large coastal basin surrounded on three sides by mountains reaching up to and over 10,000 feet (3,000 m).
Historically home to the Chumash and Tongva, Los Angeles was claimed by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542 along with the rest of what would become Alta California. The city was officially founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following the Mexican War of Independence. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican–American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. The city experienced rapid growth with the discovery of oil.
Gibson Amphitheatre (formerly Universal Amphitheatre) was an indoor amphitheatre located in Los Angeles, California within Universal City . It was originally built as an outdoor venue, opening in the summer of 1972 with a production of Jesus Christ Superstar. It was remodeled and converted into an indoor theatre in 1982 to improve acoustics. The amphitheater closed on September 6, 2013 to be demolished for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood.
The Amphitheatre was originally built as a daytime arena where patrons of the Universal Studios Studio Tour could watch stuntmen perform a western-themed stunt show and shootout. Construction began in 1969. By 1970, the stage was completed and three old west facades were constructed for the show. The arena was completed in 1971.
Because it was empty at night, a young studio tour guide suggested that the arena be used to hold rock concerts. On June 28, 1972, the venue hosted its first concert, a production of the Broadway rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar. The show was a hit and was extended until cold weather forced its closure.
Cracked Actor is a 53-minute-long BBC television documentary film about the rock star David Bowie. It was filmed in 1974. At the time he was a cocaine addict and the documentary has become notorious for showing Bowie's fragile mental state during this period. It was made by Alan Yentob for the BBC's Omnibus documentary strand, and was first shown, on BBC2 in the United Kingdom, on 26 January 1975.
The documentary depicts Bowie on tour in Los Angeles, using a mixture of documentary sequences filmed in limousines and hotels, and concert footage. Most of the concert footage was taken from a show at the Los Angeles Universal Amphitheatre on 2 September 1974. There were also excerpts from D. A. Pennebaker's concert film Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, which had been shot at London's Hammersmith Odeon on 3 July 1973, as well as a few other performances from the tour.Cracked Actor is notable for being a source for footage of Bowie's ambitious Diamond Dogs Tour.
The title of the documentary was originally to be The Collector, after a comment that Bowie had made to interviewer Russell Harty the previous year, whereby he described himself as "a collector of accents". Yentob and his team were given the task of documenting Bowie's famous Diamond Dogs tour, which was already underway when they started filming. Locations for the documentary mainly centred on Hollywood and Los Angeles, but there was also concert footage taken from Philadelphia. A number of performances from the tour were shown, including songs such as "Space Oddity", "Cracked Actor", "Sweet Thing/Candidate", "Moonage Daydream", "The Width of a Circle", "Aladdin Sane", "Time", "Diamond Dogs" and "John, I'm Only Dancing (Again)".

David Bowie - Cracked Actor - Live at the Universal Amphitheatre - 09/05/1974 Cracked Actor was originally a song from David Bowie's 1973 album, Aladdin Sane. It was subsequently performed on the 1974 Diamond Dogs tour, and was included on the David Live album. Like most of the older material played on that tour, Cracked Actor was rearranged to suit Bowie's new "Soul Man" direction. Some of the rearrangements fared better than others, in my opinion. In the case of Cracked Actor, I love what they did with it, especially when the performance aspect is seen. "For the 1974 Diamond Dogs tour Bowie removed “Cracked Actor” from its back-room origins and staged it entirely within an actor’s fevered mind: he wore a cape and sunglasses and sang to a skull in his hand, a la Hamlet, then French...

Space Oddity was originally recorded on the 20th of June 1969, and released, less than 3 weeks later (those were the days!) in early July of that year. It was included on Bowie’s 2nd album, called David Bowie, in the UK and, Man of Words/Man of Music, in the US. Later, it was reissued in 1972, with the familiar Ziggy-era look of Mick Rock’s video and accompanying cover photo as, Space Oddity. Space Oddity was reissued as a single several times in the 70’s and was in and out of the charts and radio play-lists, throughout the decade. Like a lot of my generation, it was the first Bowie song I became aware of as a youngster. When I went looking for a Bowie record that contained Space Oddity - there it was - lead track on ChangesOne. And the rest of course is (my Bowie) history. Space Oddi...

I put this together from footage taken mainly from the Dunstable and Aylesbury shows which Bowie played in the summer of 1972. The silent footage has been synched with a BBC radio session recording of 'Starman' which I have manipulated slightly to give a more 'in concert' sound and then edited to match the footage. This video was not made for profit, just for other fans to enjoy. ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’ is arguably the most influential albums in the mind-blowing career of David Bowie. Released in 1972, it's the record that set Bowie on course to becoming one of the best-known pop stars on the planet. In just over a year, Bowie invaded the minds of the nation's youth with a killer combination of extraterrestrial rock 'n' roll and outrageous sexuality, all delivered in high-heeled boots, multicoloured dresses and extravagant make-up. Ziggy turned Bowie into stardust. This documentary tells the story of how Bowie became one of the most iconic creations in the history of pop music. From his music, the fashion and the theatrical stage presentation merged together which turned David Bowie into the biggest craze since the Beatles. Z...

In this interview from 1998, David Bowie describes his need to paint, what it was like living in Berlin with Iggy Pop, and why he feels you must be "loony" to be an artist.
This is the last interview by David Bowie. He's being asked about working with Ricky Gervais and appearing on the british tv show "Extras", in 2006. Enjoy and keep cool.
Just some David Bowie perfection for your enjoyment. :)
Talk with Michael Parkinson and as second guest Tom Hanks. Bowie performs "Everyone says "HI"" from the album "Heathen" and "Life on Mars" in the show (with Mike Garson at the piano). About the song "Life on Mars" and the link to Frank Sinatra: When released as a single in 1973, it reached number three in the UK and stayed on the chart for thirteen weeks. In 2015 Neil McCormick, chief rock music critic of "The Daily Telegraph", ranked it as number one in his "100 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. In 1968 Bowie wrote the lyrics "Even a Fool Learns to Love", set to the music of a 1967 French song "Comme d'habitude", composed by Claude François and Jacques Revaux. Bowie's version was never released, but Paul Anka bought the rights to the original French version, and rewrote it into "My Way", ...
David Bowie interview with Kerry O'Brien on Australian TV program "7.30 Report" broadcast in 2004. Re-broadcast on TV program "Rage" on 15 January 2016 as part of a tribute to David Bowie. RIP.
Every journey starts with a first step, and one of the most storied romances of all time started with just one date over afternoon tea.
This is an interview of David Bowie for French television by Guillaume Durand. David Bowie is introducing the album Heathen and is saying a lot of interesting things about art, religion and philosophy.
Just had to share this very interesting and inspirational conversation between David Bowie and director Thomas Vinterberg. Topics of discussion: Bowie's new album 'Heathen', Vinterberg's Dogma-style filmmaking, numbness of life, living in America and the mind of a fool. Recorded for Danish television DR on July 04, 2002 in Aarhus, Denmark.
This is the original edit. Some people are using this clip as if they edited it and renaming the clip: David Bowie is the consumate gentleman when it comes to interviews and a true professional on the stage. But even he can get fed up sometimes... here's a few clips showing him doing just that and where the interviewers get owned by the master. Bowie is renown for being a little difficult but when you see why he's answering the way he is, you'll understand why. Many interviewers would ask silly & personal questions especially in the 70's & he's just not the sort of guy to put up with it. When an interview is fun he's incredibly charming and witty. I just wanted to show he's human and show how tiresome some interviews are. And as has been pointed out; these clips are the only ones I cou...

You've been here forever
I've
I've been here too
They said you were clever
Let's see what you can do
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to leave it
Said I can't believe it
Los Angeles
(Los Angeles)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I can't believe it)
Los Angeles
(Yeah)
Los Angeles
(Said I...)
Things can't be easy
You're getting older
The pressure's building
Living in Van Nuys
Cal-i-forn-i-a
What else could I say?
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to believe it
Said I can't believe it
Los Angeles
(Los Angeles)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I can't believe it)
Los Angeles
(The west side)
Los Angeles
You said you were leaving
Heading out to the east coast
Cause your heart was bleeding
And people can be so
But you must remember
That it ain't the weather
That's gonna protect you
They will still neglect you
But I'll always love you
Said I've always loved you
(So come on home)
Said I've always loved you
So get back in your car and head west to California
The sun will be shining
And we could be dining by the ocean blue
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to leave
Said I can't believe it
Los Angeles
(Los Angeles)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I can't believe it)
Los Angeles
(Los fues)
Los Angeles
(Said)
Los Angeles
(Said...)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I'll believe it)
