David Robert Jones (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016), known as David Bowie (/ˈboʊ.i/), was an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, painter, and actor. He was a figure in popular music for over five decades, and was considered by critics and musicians as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. His career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, and his music and stagecraft significantly impacted popular music. During his lifetime, he sold an estimated 140 million records worldwide. In the UK, he was awarded nine platinum album certifications, eleven gold and eight silver, and released eleven number-one albums. In the US, he received five platinum and seven gold certifications. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

David (/ˈdeɪvɪd/; Hebrew: דָּוִד, Modern David, Tiberian Dāwîḏ;ISO 259-3 Dawid; Arabic: داوُد Dāwūd; Syriac: ܕܘܝܕ Dawid; Ancient Greek: Δαυίδ; Latin: Davidus, David; Strong's: Daveed) was, according to the Books of Samuel, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel, and according to the New Testament, an ancestor of Jesus. His life is conventionally dated to c. 1040 – 970 BCE, his reign over Judah c. 1010–970 BCE.
The Books of Samuel, 1 Kings, and 1 Chronicles are the only Old Testament sources of information on David, although the Tel Dan Stele (dated c. 850–835 BCE) contains the phrase בית דוד (bytdwd), read as "House of David", which many scholars confirm to be a likely plausible match to the existence in the mid-9th century BCE of a Judean royal dynasty called the House of David.
Depicted as a valorous warrior of great renown, and a poet and musician credited for composing much of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms, King David is widely viewed as a righteous and effective king in battle and civil justice. He is described as a man after God's own heart in 1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22.

A disc jockey (abbreviated DJ, D.J. or deejay) is a person who plays recorded music for an audience, either a radio audience if the mix is broadcast or the audience in a venue such as a bar or nightclub. In venues such as a club event or rave, this is an audience of dancers. Originally, "disc" (uncommonly spelled "disque" in French or commonly "disk" in American English) referred to phonograph records, not the later compact discs. Today, the term includes all forms of music playback, no matter which medium is used (e.g. vinyl, CDs, MP3 players).
The title "DJ" is also commonly used by DJs in front of their real names or adopted pseudonyms as a title to denote their profession and the music they play.
There are several types of disc jockey. Radio DJs or radio personalities introduce and play music that is broadcast on AM, FM, digital or internet radio stations. Club DJs select and play music in bars, nightclubs or discothèques, or at parties or raves, or even in stadiums. Mobile DJs travel with portable sound systems and play recorded music at a variety of events. Some mobile DJs also serve as the master of ceremonies (MC) directing the attention of attendees, and maintaining a room-wide focus on what is included in the event's agenda. There are also many competitions that specialise in mixing, scratching or other kinds of techniques.
RIP David Bowie. Late night in the studio... took a break from working on a new mix to check my feeds... only to find it flooded with news that the legendary David Bowie has passed. Lots can be said & written to eulogize prolific artists like him, but I think the most appropriate way for a DJ to celebrate my favourite artists is by sharing their music. So how about a little routine? 1983's "Let's Dance" was produced by David himself & Nile Rodgers (from Chic, recently featured on Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky'), and was Bowie's biggest song to date, 20 years into his career. The guy never stopped creating -- he stayed recording and collaborating with artists like Arcade Fire & LCD Soundsystem over the last decade, and even put out an album two days ago, before his untimely passing. If that's not...
"DJ" was released on David Bowie's 13th studio album, Lodger, in the spring of 1979. I remember this record being pretty poorly received at the time, there wasn't a whole lot of love for it. Lodger was the final album in Bowie's "Berlin Trilogy" and some critics at the time compared it unfavorably to the the earlier records in the group, Low and Heroes, which were released at the beginning and end of 1977. Personally, though the record was not quite a favorite on par with Low, it was certainly something I enjoyed and listened to more than Heroes.....I guess because it tended to rock more. Also, it seems much more varied in tone and content....some very experimental Bowie for sure...crunchy, groovy, and arty all at the same time! This in another album for which time has brought more cr...

Via http://www.davidbowie.com This bootleg remix of David Bowie's DJ by Benny Benassi first surfaced in July 2008. Benassi began performing the track live in March 2008 and DJ soon became a big hit on the UK club circuit. This track will be officially released through Positiva in June, 2009: the 30th anniversary of the original single's release in June 1979.
First cover on Youtube, hope you'll like it :)
In 2015, as we were deciding what to play for the Jet Plane and Oxbow tour, we decided to cover David Bowie's entire Lodger album kind of as a fun challenge. During our tour prep, we got the news that he passed away, and, devastated, we had second thoughts as to whether we should still cover the album. In the end, we decided to do it as a tribute. We wound up performing it 4 times in its entirety during 2016. Originally, we went into the AV Club to do a cover of Bauhaus's "Kick in the Eye" for the Undercover series. But when they learned that we could do Lodger in its entirety, they let us record that as well. ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’ is arguably the most influential albums in the mind-blowing career of David Bowie. Released in 1972, it's the record that set Bowie on course to becoming one of the best-known pop stars on the planet. In just over a year, Bowie invaded the minds of the nation's youth with a killer combination of extraterrestrial rock 'n' roll and outrageous sexuality, all delivered in high-heeled boots, multicoloured dresses and extravagant make-up. Ziggy turned Bowie into stardust. This documentary tells the story of how Bowie became one of the most iconic creations in the history of pop music. From his music, the fashion and the theatrical stage presentation merged together which turned David Bowie into the biggest craze since the Beatles. Z...

This is an interview of David Bowie for French television by Guillaume Durand. David Bowie is introducing the album Heathen and is saying a lot of interesting things about art, religion and philosophy.
Talk with Michael Parkinson and as second guest Tom Hanks. Bowie performs "Everyone says "HI"" from the album "Heathen" and "Life on Mars" in the show (with Mike Garson at the piano). About the song "Life on Mars" and the link to Frank Sinatra: When released as a single in 1973, it reached number three in the UK and stayed on the chart for thirteen weeks. In 2015 Neil McCormick, chief rock music critic of "The Daily Telegraph", ranked it as number one in his "100 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. In 1968 Bowie wrote the lyrics "Even a Fool Learns to Love", set to the music of a 1967 French song "Comme d'habitude", composed by Claude François and Jacques Revaux. Bowie's version was never released, but Paul Anka bought the rights to the original French version, and rewrote it into "My Way", ...
