Welcome to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory Australia. Our first stop is the Desert Park. This park was created to show you the three different types of ecosystems that are in the Red Center of the Northern Territory. Desert and Rivers, Sand Country and Wood Lands.
Next up is Simpsons Gap. This is a very popular spot outside of Alice Springs. It took water 65 millions years to make it through the gap.
This is the Standley Chasm, it's a gorge that is 5 meters in width, and 75 meters in height. The best time to come is mid-day so you can see the sun shining through the gorge.
Now for the fun part! Feeding rock wallabies at the Heavy Tree Gap Lodge. This is the only place in Alice Springs where you can do this.
Lastly we take a hot air balloon flight with Outback Balloons. This is the best way to see the Red Center.

Northern Territory Police are investigating a ram raid on a business in Sadadeen, Alice Springs early this morning.
Detective Sergeant Trent Abbott said that at least five offenders were involved in the incident that occurred around 6:00am.
“It is alleged that the offenders stole a vehicle from a business on the Stuart Highway about 8:00pm on Sunday 7 May,” he said.
“They then used this vehicle to gain entry, causing extensive damage to the property.
“The incident was caught on CCTV footage.
“One of the offenders is currently in custody, assisting Police with their enquiries.
"It is also alleged that the offenders, in two separate incidences, also rammed two security vehicles, that had occupants in them at the time."
Police are asking anyone who can identify any person in the vision to call them on 131 444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

Northern Territory Police are calling for public assistance to identify a male who unlawfully entered a licensed premises in Alice Springs.
At about 3:00am on Tuesday 24 May, an unknown male was captured on CCTV stealing a quantity of alcohol.
Police urge anyone with information regarding the identity of the offender to call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Alice Springs
Alice Springs /ˌælᵻs ˈsprɪŋz/ (Arrernte: Mparntwe) is the third largest town in the Northern Territory, Australia. Popularly known as "the Alice" or simply "Alice", Alice Springs is situated in the geographic centre of Australia.
The site is known as Mparntwe to its original inhabitants, the Arrernte, who have lived in the Central Australian desert in and around what is now Alice Springs for thousands of years. "Alice" in the English language was named by surveyor William Whitfield Mills after Lady Alice Todd (née Alice Gillam Bell), wife of the telegraph pioneer Sir Charles Todd. Alice Springs has a population of 28,605, which makes up 12.2 percent of the territory's population. Alice Springs is nearly equidistant from Adelaide and Darwin.
The town straddles the usually dry Todd River on the northern side of the MacDonnell Ranges. The surrounding region is known as Central Australia, or the Red Centre, an arid environment consisting of several different deserts. In Alice Springs temperatures can vary dramatically, with an average maximum temperature in summer of 35.6 °C (96.1 °F) and an average minimum temperature in winter of 5.1 °C (41.2 °F). Alice Springs has faced many issues in recent years, largely stemming from an increase in crime and a strong racial divide that has existed for years in the town.

Northern Territory
The Northern Territory (abbreviated as NT) is a federal Australian territory in the centre and central northern regions. It shares borders with Western Australia to the west (129th meridian east), South Australia to the south (26th parallel south), and Queensland to the east (138th meridian east). To the north, the territory is bordered by the Timor Sea, the Arafura Sea and the Gulf of Carpentaria. Despite its large area—over 1,349,129 square kilometres (520,902 sq mi), making it the third largest Australian federal division—it is sparsely populated. The Northern Territory's population of 243,700 (2014) makes it is the least populous of Australia's eight major states and territories, having fewer than half as many people as Tasmania.
The archaeological history of the Northern Territory begins over 40,000 years ago when Indigenous Australians settled the region. Makassan traders began trading with the indigenous people of the Northern Territory for trepang from at least the 18th century onwards, and very likely for 300 years prior to that. The coast of the territory was first seen by Europeans in the 17th century. The British were the first Europeans to attempt to settle the coastal regions. After three failed attempts to establish a settlement (1824–1828, 1838–1849, and 1864–66), success was achieved in 1869 with the establishment of a settlement at Port Darwin. Today the economy is based on tourism, especially Kakadu National Park in the Top End and the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park (Ayers Rock) in central Australia, and mining.

Police investigating 4WD that ploughed into a shop in Alice Springs
Northern Territory Police are investigating a ram raid on a business in Sadadeen, Alice Springs early this morning. Detective Sergeant Trent Abbott said that at least five offenders were involved in the incident that occurred around 6:00am. “It is alleged that the offenders stole a vehicle from a business on the Stuart Highway about 8:00pm on Sunday 7 May,” he said. “They then used this vehicle to gain entry, causing extensive damage to the property. “The incident was caught on CCTV footage. “One of the offenders is currently in custody, assisting Police with their enquiries. "It is also alleged that the offenders, in two separate incidences, also rammed two security vehicles, that had occupants in them at the time." Welcome to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory Australia. Our first stop is the Desert Park. This park was created to show you the three different types of ecosystems that are in the Red Center of the Northern Territory. Desert and Rivers, Sand Country and Wood Lands.
Next up is Simpsons Gap. This is a very popular spot outside of Alice Springs. It took water 65 millions years to make it through the gap.
This is the Standley Chasm, it's a gorge that is 5 meters in width, and 75 meters in height. The best time to come is mid-day so you can see the sun shining through the gorge.
Now for the fun part! Feeding rock wallabies at the Heavy Tree Gap Lodge. This is the only place in Alice Springs where you can do this.
Lastly we take a hot air balloon flight with Outback Balloons. This is the best way to see the Red Center.

Setting off from Darwin their tour takes them through Kakadu National Park, Mary River National Park & Litchfield National Park. Heading south they stop at the Old Daly Waters pub before exploring Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve.

Très peu de monde, des traces de civilisation de loin en loin (road houses), des traversées de bleds improbables qui essaient d'attirer le chaland dans la surenchère, une dominante de tons rouges, une impression d'immensité sèche prête à tout moment à s'embraser, aucun repère : cinq jours de route sans discontinuer dans les mêmes paysages à perte de vue.
Une expérience troublante où l'on reprend un rythme plus lent, plus naturel ; où l'on cesse d'être stimulé en permanence par tous les stimuli artificiels de la vie moderne.
Un retour à une certaine sérénité.

Alice Springs is the second largest city in the Northern Territory of Australia. Popularly known as "the Alice" or simply "Alice", Alice Springs is situated in the geographic centre of Australia near the southern border of the Northern Territory.[2] The site is known as Mparntwe to its traditional inhabitants, the Arrernte, who have lived in the Central Australian desert in and around what is now Alice Springs for more than 50,000 years. Alice Springs has a population of 27,481 people which makes up 12 per cent of the territory's population. Averaging 576 metres (1,890 ft) above sea level, the town is nearly equidistant from Adelaide and Darwin.
There are six suburbs altogether in Alice Springs which are close to the Alice Springs town centre. Alice Springs is mostly residential.
The town of Alice Springs straddles the usually dry Todd River on the northern side of the MacDonnell Ranges. The region where Alice Springs is located is known as Central Australia, or the Red Centre, and is an arid environment consisting of several different deserts. In Alice Springs, temperatures can vary by up to 28 °C (82 °F) and rainfall can vary quite dramatically from year to year. In summer, the average maximum temperature is 36.6 °C (97.9 °F), whereas in winter the average minimum temperature can be 7.5 °C (45.5 °F).
There are many festivals and events, the town's focal point, the Todd Mall, hosts a number of Aboriginal art galleries and community events. Alice Springs desert lifestyle has inspired several unique and interesting events such as the Camel Cup, the Henley-on-Todd Regatta, Beanie Festival and the Finke Desert Race. The Finke Desert Race is some 400 kilometres (250 mi) south of Alice Springs in the Simpson Desert.
The American population celebrates most of the major American festivals, including Halloween, Independence Day and Thanksgiving. A portion of the Australian citizens engage in the festivities as well.

The Alice Springs Desert Park was created to educate visitors about the many facets of the surrounding desert environment. The arid climate botanic garden, Olive Pink Botanic Garden, is a short distance from the town centre. They were named after anthropologist, naturalist and artist Olive Pink, who lived in the town for almost 30 years and died in 1975. She was well known locally and referred to by all as Miss Pink. The Alice Springs Reptile Centre is located in the town centre.

The Alice Springs Desert Park was created to educate visitors about the many facets of the surrounding desert environment. The arid climate botanic garden, Olive Pink Botanic Garden, is a short distance from the town centre. They were named after anthropologist, naturalist and artist Olive Pink, who lived in the town for almost 30 years and died in 1975. She was well known locally and referred to by all as Miss Pink. The Alice Springs Reptile Centre is located in the town centre.

Pathé archive voice over: To few people in a lifetime comes the chance of seeing such a gigantic blaze as the funeral pyre of the Crystal Palace, one of the few remaining links with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
Narrator: In 1936 a fire destroyed the spectacular building known as the Crystal Palace - the same building that 85 years earlier had housed the famous ' Great Exhibition' , one of the most important events of the Victorian era.
On 1 May 1851 the Great Exhibition was opened by Queen Victoria. Her husband - Prince Albert - led the development of the Exhibition, which was the first of its kind. It was a bit like a giant museum, full of interesting objects from around the world.
The Great Exhibition was held in London' s Hyde Park in a building that soon became known as the Crystal Palace because of the amount of glass used to build it - and it attracted people from all over the country.
Historical sources like diaries, letters, newspaper articles and pictures tell us about the Great Exhibition. They give us a good idea of what a 'day out' at the Exhibition was like.
Mary Smith, a school-teacher from Oxfordshire, wrote about her visit to the Great Exhibition.
Mary Smith: The time came that we started off on a week' s excursion to London, to see this latest wonder of the world. We travelled, as everyone did, by an 'excursion train' , the first I had experience of, and all our party were very weary of it.
Narrator: Visitors even came from overseas, from as far away as America, China, Trinidad, Australia, India and Ceylon. Less well-off people like Mary Smith went on cheap ticket days, which were very popular.
Mary Smith: Country folks as we were, we naturally made the Exhibition our first object, setting off for Hyde Park directly after breakfast to be there when the doors opened. We went with the common people on the shilling day.
Narrator: It seemed as though everyone was there. If you were really lucky, you might even bump into the Queen herself on one of her many visits.
Queen Victoria: After breakfast we left for the Exhibition. It looked so beautiful this wonderful creation of my beloved Albert's.
Narrator: Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice In Wonderland, found the Great Exhibition very exciting. He wrote that:
Lewis Carroll: The impression when you get inside is of bewilderment. It looks like a sort of fairyland. Far as you can look in any direction, you see nothing but pillars hung about with shawls, carpets, canopies …
Walter Bagehot (coughing and interrupting): The only accurate idea I can give you of the Exhibition is that it is a great fair under a cucumber frame.
Narrator: Walter Bagehot, a journalist and banker, recorded his experience of the Great Exhibition in a letter that he wrote to his mother.
Walter Bagehot: The form of the building is that of a cross, the long stroke being called the nave, and the short stroke the transept. In the exact centre is a stunning fountain made of glass.
Narrator: The Crystal Palace covered an area equivalent to 15 football pitches. It was over 30 metres high and several trees that stood on the site were not sawn down, but were covered by the huge building rather like pot plants in a giant conservatory.
An average of 42,000 visitors from all classes of society came to the Exhibition each day.
Reporter: There were honest fellows in corduroys, agricultural labourers in smock frocks, and rural folk in their full dress of velveteen, with their sweethearts in bright-coloured shawls of scarlet and green.
It was amusing to observe the amazement of these good folks as they entered, and the bewildered look of their upturned wondering eyes gazing up at the roof of the building in stunned and staggered astonishment.
Narrator: There were over 100,000 objects on display.
Exhibits from Britain and its colonies filled one half of the building, and the rest of the world, the other half.
The famous author, Charlotte Brontë, could not believe her eyes.
Charlotte Brontë: Whatever human industry has created, you find there! Railway engines and boilers, mill machinery, splendid carriages of all kinds, glass-covered stands loaded with the most gorgeous work of gold and silver smiths, carefully guarded caskets full of real diamonds and pearls worth thousands of pounds.
Narrator: In the British section, there were manufactured goods such as silk and cotton, cutlery, hand tools and surgical instruments and much more.
Official Guides were employed to show the more well-off visitors around.
Guide: Among the more unusual items to be found at the Exhibition are the following: a piano that four people can play at once, furniture made from papier mâché, a bed that turns into a life-raft, a penknife with eighty blades, a dressing table that doubles up as a fire escape…
Narrator: In the British Machinery Section, there were cranes, lighthouse lamps and huge presses. Mary Smith was intrigued.

This is the seventh episode of a sketch-based travel webseries about Australia's Northern Territory, made for WorldNomads.com. The series later aired as a 30-minute special for National Geographic Adventures.
It was filmed in Alice Springs, the dead center of Australia. A quaint little town seemingly built atop a portal to Hell. It's where demons just pour out and into the world and then drunkenly accost you on the street. We were preparing to sleep in our van (out on the street, illegally) one night when we bumped into our tour guide from Uluru and went out to the pubs instead -- when we returned the next morning, the car beside the space we'd been planning on sleeping in had been destroyed via Molotov Cocktail. Hell. On. Earth.
We were stuck there for a week and hated every second and really, really struggled to find a way to film it and make it palatable to the tourism community. This reptile center was the one place in seven days that we liked. And Willie's fear is very very real.
