'Something has gone wrong here': Elmar's adds cheese to European nacho debacle

Show comments

Elmar's in the Valley has come to the party with plenty of cheese... we're just not quite sure exactly what type.

The German-themed microbrewery and restaurant found itself on the backfoot over the weekend after WAtoday published the story of a customer's angst at a $15 plate of nachos she thought was bereft of essential ingredients - namely cheese, sauce and corn chips.

Ashlin McCamish posted a photo of the bare-looking dish she ordered from the Swan Valley establishment on Saturday afternoon, with the ensuing publicity causing more rumbles one would hope from a bad plate of nachos.

News outlets and TV networks around Australia soon took a dip at the story, before widespread criticism prompted Elmar's to revamp its so-called "European version" nachos to a cheesier offering.

"Something has gone wrong here. Elmar's would like to formally apologise for the nachos delivered on Saturday to Ashlin," the brewery wrote.

"After the coverage that has been displayed all over some social media sites portraying an unappetising dish, we acknowledge we made a mistake.

"Whilst the Nachos displayed weren't a true depiction of the dish, we did listen and they have been improved.

"To show the public we have acted on the type of product you really want, please view this footage of 'our version' of vegetarian nachos."

While we're still trying to separate the cheese from the cheese in that statement and video below, Elmar's was being genuine with its next announcement.

"If you have not had the chance to visit us already and try our nachos, come out next week and experience them for yourself... we are offering our vegetarian nachos for half price from June 7-11."

Cheese aside, that just might be enough to dip in to.
