Plot: A wordless film, save for a voice-over introducing us to the imagery of dreams. A shirtless young man dreams of awakening to finds photographs of a muscular sailor carrying him in his arms. He goes to a bar where the sailor from his dream displays his muscular upper torso. A gang of sailors, swinging chains, enters menacingly. He watches, smoking. They surround him and an assault begins. Surreal touches accent the dream-like qualities. A phallic firework, a flaming Christmas tree, and the burning photographs provide climax and closure as the young man, back in bed, is beside the sailor.

You have to wonder just how many times a movie like this can be remade before people just get plain sick and tired of them. But Dreamer plays to the age old dreams of little girls (and some boys) everywhere, and it's wholesome entertainment with enough big name actors to keep the imaginations of the parents alive in the theatre as well. In this case, the "inspired by a true story" addendum is slapped on to the title to remind us of a horse named Mariah's Storm that accomplished between 1993 and 1995 the exact feat we are presented with in Dreamer: a promising horse that breaks its leg in a race (an all-too-common occurrence in the modern age of cortisone shots for horses... but that's a whole other controversy) but is mended against all odds to win a major race for its destitute owner. One out of million, Became one out of three. One out of thousands in the world, Became one heart in me. And if you ever leave me, I hope I'll never wake up. Sweetheart, My sweetheart. Sweetheart. Oh, oh, oh, It's a crazy world, Everything changes but our love forever stays. Oh, oh, oh, It's a crazy world. So bring in the dancers, Bring in the clowns. Bring in the magic in the air, Oh won't you give me your smile. And I'm calling you, dreamer Don't you ever wake up. Sweetheart, Sweetheart. Sweetheart.

ABOUT THE FILM Nicola is a child living in a perfect city, with perfectly proper people living their perfectly ordered lives, rich in material wealth and with a full and satisfied sense of their own superiority. But Nicola isn't like the others. She is a dreamer, a compassionate soul - a child. When the Strangers appear in the City's Park, living on the benches in their scruffy clothes with their dirty faces, the townsfolk are horrified. These savages, these creatures, so different to the townsfolk, must not be tolerated. The townsfolk resolve to remove them, but with ever...
This is a dream sequence I did in 2005. It was basically an edit test, and was solely an aesthetic project. The dreamer wanders through assorted portals, taking him through a diverse collection of urban environments. The visuals are very colorful, and the mood is surreal. The music is "Radiation Ruling the Nation" by Massive Attack (a remix of their song "Protection"). aaronjamespatterson.com

Yeah
Believe it or not
What kept me alive
Is mah dream
Maybe I'm just a dreamer
Cause this woman is a keeper
Got me feeling like I need her
Every day I'm getting weaker
Baby I'm just a dreamer
Cause this woman is a keeper
Got me feeling like I need her
Every day I'm getting weaker
Maybe I'm just a dreamer
Cause this woman is a keeper
Got me feeling like I need her
Every day I'm getting weaker
Baby I'm just a dreamer
Cause this woman is a keeper
Got me feeling like I need her
Every day I'm getting weaker
Maybe I'm just a dreamer
Cause this woman is a keeper
Got me feeling like I need her
Every day I'm getting weaker
Baby I'm just a dreamer
Cause this woman is a keeper
Got me feeling like I need her
Every day I'm getting weaker
When you're lonely
Just give me a call
My love or my homie
We can share it all
Always been there for me
We witnessed it all
And we plan to be,
Till eternity.
Maybe I'm just a dreamer
Cause this woman is a keeper
Got me feeling like I need her
Every day I'm getting weaker
Baby I'm just a dreamer
Cause this woman is a keeper
Got me feeling like I need her
