Jonathan Vincent "Jon" Voight (/vɔɪt/; born December 29, 1938) is an American actor. He is the winner of one Academy Award, having been nominated for four. He has also won four Golden Globe Awards and nominated for ten. He is the father of actress Angelina Jolie and actor James Haven.
Voight came to prominence in the late 1960s with his performance as a would-be gigolo in Midnight Cowboy (1969). During the 1970s, he became a Hollywood star with his portrayals of a businessman mixed up with murder in Deliverance (1972); a paraplegic Vietnam veteran in Coming Home (1978), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor; and a penniless ex-boxing champion in the remake of The Champ (1979).
Although his output slowed during the 1980s, Voight received critical acclaim for his performance as a ruthless bank robber in Runaway Train (1985). During the 1990s, he most notably starred as an unscrupulous showman attorney in The Rainmaker (1997). Voight gave critically acclaimed biographical performances during the 2000s, appearing as sportscaster Howard Cosell in Ali (2001), as Nazi officer Jürgen Stroop in Uprising (2001), and as Pope John Paul II in the eponymous miniseries (2005). Voight also appears in Showtime's Ray Donovan TV series as Mickey Donovan.
The Chattooga River (also spelled Chatooga, Chatuga, and Chautaga, variant name Guinekelokee River) is the main tributary of the Tugaloo River. Its headwaters are located southwest of Cashiers, North Carolina, and it stretches 57 miles (92 km) to where it has its confluence with the Tallulah River within Lake Tugalo, held back by the Tugalo Dam. The Chattooga and the Tallulah combine to make the Tugaloo River starting at the outlet of Lake Tugalo. The Chattooga begins in southern Jackson County, North Carolina, then flows southwestward between northwestern Oconee County, South Carolina, and eastern Rabun County, Georgia. The "Chattooga" spelling was approved by the US Board on Geographic Names in 1897.
The river was used as a setting for the fictional Cahulawassee River in the book and film Deliverance.
The Chattooga River flows into Tugalo Lake where it joins the Tallulah River. After flowing through Tugalo Dam the combined rivers become the Tugaloo River which, along with the Seneca River, becomes the Savannah River below Lake Hartwell. Downstream from that point, the water flows into the Atlantic Ocean near Savannah, Georgia.
Daniel Ronald "Ronny" Cox (born July 23, 1938) is an American character actor, singer-songwriter, and storyteller. His best-known roles include Drew Ballinger in Deliverance (1972), George Apple in Apple's Way (1974-75), Lieutenant Andrew Bogomil in Beverly Hills Cop (1984), Richard "Dick" Jones in RoboCop (1987) and the villain Vilos Cohaagen in Total Recall (1990). Cox wrote a book about his experience filming Deliverance for the movie's 40th anniversary in 2012. He plays over 100 shows at festivals and theaters each year with his band.
Cox, the third of five children, was born in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, the son of Lounette (née Rucker) and Bob P. Cox, a carpenter who also worked at a dairy. He grew up in Portales, New Mexico. Cox met his wife, Mary, when in high school and they married in 1960. Cox graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1963 with a double major in Theater and Speech Correction. Mary died in 2006, 50 years to the day of their first date. Cox often talks about her during his music performances.
Deliverance is a 1972 American dramatic thriller film produced and directed by John Boorman, and stars Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty and Ronny Cox, with the latter two making their feature film debuts. The film is based on the 1970 novel of the same name by American author James Dickey, who has a small role in the film as the Sheriff. The screenplay was written by Dickey and an uncredited Boorman.
Widely acclaimed as a landmark picture, the film is noted both for the music scene near the beginning, with one of the city men playing "Dueling Banjos" on guitar with a banjo-playing country boy, that sets the tone for what lies ahead—a trip into unknown and potentially dangerous wilderness—and for its visceral and notorious male rape scene. In 2008, Deliverance was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
Four Atlanta businessmen, Lewis Medlock (Burt Reynolds), Ed Gentry (Jon Voight), Bobby Trippe (Ned Beatty) and Drew Ballinger (Ronny Cox), decide to canoe down a river in the remote northern Georgia wilderness, expecting to have fun and witness the area's unspoiled nature before the fictional Cahulawassee River valley is flooded by construction of a dam. Lewis, an experienced outdoorsman, is the leader. Ed is also a veteran of several trips but lacks Lewis' machismo. Bobby and Drew are novices.

Plot: Purdieliverance is the second in a series of 21st Century Silent Spoofs by Rex Harsin, a 21st Century Silent Filmmaker. The film parodies and pays tribute to the 1972 classic 'Deliverance' starring Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight. Purdieliverance, named so because the star of the 21st Century Silent Comedies name is Purdie, follows three friends through a humorous and adventurous trek down the river and through the woods. The key scenes and concepts of the 1972 film (Dueling Banjos, Squeal like a Pig, the Treacherous Rock Wall Climb) film are spoofed and made into humorous sight gags. The film is accompanied by a silent-film styled piano score that incorporates the classic Dueling Banjos theme.

FILM DESCRIPTION: Like such other early '70s Hollywood films as Sam Peckinpah's Straw Dogs (1971), Deliverance ponders violent instincts and definitions of manhood, ideas made all the more pressing by the period's escalating violence and assault on traditional gender roles. Regardless of these headier concerns, the critically praised realism of the action scenes on the river, with the actors performing a lot of the stunts, helped make the film a hit. For a long time I have been wanted to make a video about the Wild and Scenic Chattooga River set to a cinematic music score. Although the Chattooga is best known for its popular white water rafting and kayaking (been there done that) I chose instead to focus on the natural beauty along the river corridor. The Chattooga River is one of the most pristine wilderness areas in the eastern United States. Designated a Wild and Scenic River by congress in 1974, it is characterized by dense forests, undeveloped shorelines, whitewater rapids and multiple waterfalls. Its banks and riverbed are riddled with massive boulders and rock formations. In most locations it is extremely difficult to access. Originating in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, the Chattooga flows south through the ...

Four guys, Two Canadian Canoes and the freedom of one of Scotland's wildest places. The movie title is inspired by the 1972 classic "Deliverance", with Bert Renolds, Jon Voight, Ronny Cox and the unfortunate Ned Beatty, whose character falls victim to an act of sodomy upriver at the hands of some especially nasty hillbillys. We thought our planned adventure had sufficient parallells to deserve the comparison, although fortunately, it wasn't as eventful. Sponsored by Boddingtons!
I was lucky enough to be the Pillbug Character Lead Animator on Rango. I did all the character and creature performance for these shots. All animation is keyframe. I animated the scenes that are in color. The b&w; footage is just there to help the cut. Thanks to Jana for her support. Thanks to my friends at ILM for the opportunity to work on their first animated feature. I had a great time. And thanks to all the talented Layout Artists, TDs, Lighters, and Compositors who made the movie look great!
Ronny Cox, who played Drew in Deliverance, practices Dueling Banjos in this teaser for The Deliverance of Rabun County. Deliverance is an iconic film - one that will stick with you days, weeks, months and years after your first viewing. It’s been hailed as a masterpiece, it’s been parodied, but most of all it created an indelible image of a city dweller’s worst fear: the homicidal hick. The Deliverance of Rabun County is a documentary film project about the 40 year anniversary of the release of Deliverance and the effect the film had on the residents of Rabun County and the Chattooga River, where much of the film was shot. "You had to be there"
Standing on the edge of a quay no lights flashing on the water for me
Fog in my mind darkens my eyes silently streaming for a distant sound
Ripple river yellows rising for a breath of breeding and drowns
Stillness overcomes me in the night listen to the rising water moan
I'm waiting, waiting for the night boat woo I'm waiting
Waiting for the night boat
Shadows all through me shudder away echo me echo me (echo me)
Am I alone or is the river alive cause it echos me, echos me, echos me
I'm waiting, waiting for the night boat woo I'm waiting
Waiting for the night boat
Waiting (waiting) waiting for the night boat woo I'm waiting (waiting)
Waiting for the night boat waiting for the night boat woo I'm waiting
