"Waltz #2 (XO)" is a song by American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. It was released in 1998 by record label DreamWorks as the first single from his fourth studio album, XO.
The single did not chart in the United States but reached number 52 in the UK Singles Chart, his highest chart placement in the UK to date.
In its article on the song, Slate called it Elliott Smith's best song.
The waltz (from German: "Walzer") is a smooth, progressive ballroom and folk dance, normally in triple time, performed primarily in closed position.
There are several references to a sliding or gliding dance—a waltz—from the 16th century, including the representations of the printer H.S. Beheim. The French philosopher Montaigne wrote of a dance he saw in 1580 in Augsburg, where the dancers held each other so closely that their faces touched. Kunz Haas (of approximately the same period) wrote, "Now they are dancing the godless Weller or Spinner." "The vigorous peasant dancer, following an instinctive knowledge of the weight of fall, utilizes his surplus energy to press all his strength into the proper beat of the measure, thus intensifying his personal enjoyment in dancing".
The peasants of Bavaria, Tyrol, and Styria began dancing a dance called Walzer, a dance for couples, around 1750. The Ländler, also known as the Schleifer, a country dance in 3
4 time, was popular in Bohemia, Austria, and Bavaria, and spread from the countryside to the suburbs of the city. While the eighteenth century upper classes continued to dance the minuet, bored noblemen slipped away to the balls of their servants.
Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich (Russian: Дми́трий Дми́триевич Шостако́вич , tr. Dmitriy Dmitrievich Shostakovich, pronounced [ˈdmʲitrʲɪj ˈdmʲitrʲɪɪvʲɪtɕ ʂəstɐˈkovʲɪtɕ]; 25 September 1906 – 9 August 1975) was a Soviet composer and pianist, and a prominent figure of 20th-century music.
Shostakovich achieved fame in the Soviet Union under the patronage of Soviet chief of staff Mikhail Tukhachevsky, but later had a complex and difficult relationship with the government. Nevertheless, he received accolades and state awards and served in the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR (1947–1962) and the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union (from 1962 until his death).
A poly-stylist, Shostakovich developed a hybrid voice, combining a variety of different musical techniques into his music. Shostakovich's music is characterized by sharp contrasts, elements of the grotesque, and ambivalent tonality; the composer was also heavily influenced by the neo-classical style pioneered by Igor Stravinsky, and (especially in his symphonies) by the post-Romanticism associated with Gustav Mahler.
Steven Paul "Elliott" Smith (August 6, 1969 – October 21, 2003) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. Smith was born in Omaha, Nebraska, raised primarily in Texas, and lived for much of his life in Portland, Oregon, where he first gained popularity. Smith's primary instrument was the guitar, though he was also proficient with piano, clarinet, bass guitar, drums, and harmonica. Smith had a distinctive vocal style, characterized by his "whispery, spiderweb-thin delivery", and used multi-tracking to create vocal layers, textures, and harmonies.
After playing in the rock band Heatmiser for several years, Smith began his solo career in 1994, with releases on the independent record labels Cavity Search and Kill Rock Stars (KRS). In 1997, he signed a contract with DreamWorks Records, for which he recorded two albums. Smith rose to mainstream prominence when his song "Miss Misery"—included in the soundtrack for the film Good Will Hunting (1997)—was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Original Song category in 1998.
The Second is the second studio album by Canadian-American rock band Steppenwolf, released in 1968 on ABC Dunhill Records. The album contains one of Steppenwolf's most famous songs, "Magic Carpet Ride". The background of the original ABC LP cover was a shiny "foil", in contrast to later (MCA Records) LP issues and the modern CD sleeve.
Featuring a style incorporating psychedelic music as well as aggressive hard rock, the release has received critical acclaim both when it came out as well as in later years. For example, Allmusic critic Bruce Eder stated that, though "highly derivative" of their first album, The Second had "very hard and edgy" tracks with the band "in excellent form".
All tracks composed by John Kay, except where indicated.

Many consider that Shostakovich is the greatest 20th-century composer. In his 15 symphonies, 15 quartets, and in other works he demonstrated mastery of the largest and most challenging forms with music of great emotional power and technical invention…All his works are marked by emotional extremes – tragic intensity, grotesque and bizarre wit, humour, parody, and savage sarcasm. ◆Genre: Orchestral Classical Music / Waltz ◆Follow ➤ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitri_Shostakovich https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suite_for_Jazz_Orchestra_No._2_(Shostakovich) http://www.ohscatalog.org/dmshsewafrsu.html ◆ Artist :The Strings of Paris ◆Video Edited by OLJA ➤"Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comme...

Jazz Suite No. 2 (Suite for Stage Variety Orchestra): VI. Waltz 2 Composer: Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) Conductor: Dmitry Yablonsky Ensemble: Russian State Symphony Orchestra
Improvisation on Elliott Smith's "Waltz #2." Thanks for listening.
Shostakovich - Waltz 2 from the Suite for Variety Orchestra, also (erroneously) known as the Waltz 2 from Jazz Suite No 2. Fitting a full orchestra score on a widescreen ratio is difficult, so I tried something different: I separated the score into 4 sections: woodwinds (upper-left), brass (lower-left), percussions (upper-right) and strings (lower-right). Hey oh well it's my turn now
You've just lost your precious spot somehow
Me I'll take it all away
No one ever dreamed you'd up and walk away
You'd love to watch me be the throwaway
Just when I can finally seize the day
Take your self and disappear
You are still no longer welcome here
Fear drives you to act this way
The sum of all you've done will be the debt that you pay
You'd love to watch me be the throwaway
Just when I can finally seize the day
With the fear of losing it to you
I'll keep it close and finally break on through
You'd love to watch me be the throwaway
Just when I can finally seize the day
With the fear of losing it to you
I'll keep it close and finally break on through
Thanks to you
