The program Study Abroad 2016 - Seville, Spain: Spanish and Anthropology has been prepared for Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) by Language and Cultural Encounters (LCE), which creates innovative projects for studying the Spanish language and culture at the University of Seville.
You will be learning Spanish during two weeks and at the same time enjoying cultural and leisure options in southern Europe.
You will take an Intensive Spanish Course organized by LCE at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Seville, in a famous historical building in the center of the city.
You will learn basic aspects of Spanish grammar and vocabulary and develop your ability to communicate in Spanish. There will be field trips and cultural activities related to art, music, cinema as well as contact with typical customs and social behavior in Spain.
Located in Andalusia in the South of Spain, Seville has been one of the main crossroads between America,
Africa and Europe.
You will visit monuments that are Human Heritage Sites and with diverse activities have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the Spanish culture.
Homestay with carefully selected Spanish families. The families are a fundamental part of our program and an important means of immersion in Spanish culture. With our families, you will get to know first hand Spanish customs and cultural realities.
You will travel to other parts of Andalusia, with trips to the city of Granada and its unique palace of La Alhambra, and Cádiz, which is said to be the oldest city in the Western world. Also you can take an optional trip to Portugal with its rich culture,well-known gastronomy, interesting villages and beautiful beaches. During the program LCE will offer personalized sessions to provide you with orientation about any special cultural or leisure interests you may have.
You will have:
- An intensive Spanish Course.
- Airport transfers.
- Homestay with Spanish family (three meals a day; cleaning and laundry service once a week and access to Internet).
- Personalized attention and emergency telephone 24 hours a day.
- A wide variety of cultural activities. Daily agenda.
- Trips to the cities of Granada and Cádiz (all expenses included).
- Optional Trip to Portugal.

The University of Seville (Universidad de Sevilla) is a university in Seville, Spain. Founded under the name of Colegio Santa María de Jesús in 1505, it has a present student body of over 65,000, and is one of the top-ranked universities in the country. Seville is the 2000-year-old artistic, cultural, and financial capital of Andalusia in southern Spain.It was the most important city when Spanish Empire was growing (S.XVI-XVIII), considered the capital of Spain, due to it is situated on the plain of the River Guadalquivir, where a lot of expeditions to America were departed.
History
The University of Seville dates to the 15th century when the Catholic Monarchs recovered the area from the Moors. It was originally the Colegio de Santa Maria de Jesus, created by Archdeacon Maese Rodrigo Fernandez de Santaella, and confirmed as a practising university in 1505 by the papal bull of Pope Julius II. Today, the University of Seville is known for research in technology and science.

Seville
Seville (/səˈvɪl/; Spanish: Sevilla [seˈβiʎa], locally: [seˈβi(ɟ)ʝa]) is the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Andalusia and the province of Seville, Spain. It is situated on the plain of the River Guadalquivir. The inhabitants of the city are known as sevillanos (feminine form: sevillanas) or hispalenses, after the Roman name of the city, Hispalis. Seville has a municipal population of about 703,000 as of 2011, and a metropolitan population of about 1.5 million, making it the fourth-largest city in Spain and the 30th most populous municipality in the European Union. Its Old Town, the third largest in Europe with an area of 4 square kilometres (2 sq mi), contains three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alcázar palace complex, the Cathedral and the General Archive of the Indies. The Seville harbour, located about 80 kilometres (50 miles) from the Atlantic Ocean, is the only river port in Spain. Seville is also the hottest major metropolitan area in Europe, with summer average high temperatures of above 35 °C.

Study abroad program with my university visting Seville Spain in March of 2015. This is a short video I made of my time in this area. Study abroad program with my university visting Seville Spain in March of 2015. This is a short video I made of my time in this area. Thanks to my wonderful travel mates and friends I made along the way. Seville is a place I will not forget.

We are going to take you through it with several walks, pointing out some of the major plazas and the lovely pedestrian lanes. Starting out at Plaza Nueva, the most popular place in town.
This central area with the plaza and the streets leading to it is really the heart and the focal point of the city. Notice the broad street that is for pedestrians, bicycles, no cars allowed, and the tram.
