The University of Salzburg, also known as Paris Lodron University (German Universität Salzburg) named after its founder, the Prince Archbishop Paris Lodron, is located in the Austrian city of Salzburg, and is divided into four Faculties: Catholic theology, law, humanities and the natural sciences. Founded in 1622, the university has around 18,000 students and 2,800 employees and is largest educational institution in the Land Salzburg.
Paris Lodron University, Salzburg, was founded by Prince Archbishop Paris Lodron in 1622, five years earlier had previously established a "Gymnasium", a secondary school.
The University was initially built and maintained by a federation of Benedictine abbeys from Salzburg, Switzerland, Bavaria and Austria. In its early years, courses taught were theology, divinity, philosophy, law, and medicine.
As a result of the Napoleonic Wars, Salzburg University was secularized, with Prince Ferdinand, a brother of Emperor Franz I. of Austria, establishing a Faculty of Medicine.
A business school is a university-level institution that confers degrees in business administration or management. Such a school can also be known as school of management, school of business, school of business administration, or, colloquially, b-school or biz school. A business school teaches topics such as accounting, administration, strategy, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, information systems, logistics, marketing, organizational psychology, organizational behavior, public relations, research methods and real estate among others.
There are several forms of business schools, including school of business, business administration, and management.
Salzburg (German pronunciation: [ˈzaltsbʊɐ̯k];Bavarian: Såizburg; literally: "Salt Fortress") is the fourth-largest city in Austria and the capital of the federal state of Salzburg.
Salzburg's "Old Town" (Altstadt) is internationally renowned for its baroque architecture and is one of the best-preserved city centers north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The city has three universities and a large population of students. Tourists also frequent the city to tour the city's historic center and the scenic Alpine surroundings.
Salzburg was the birthplace of 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the mid‑20th century, the city was the setting for the musical play and film The Sound of Music.
Traces of human settlements have been found in the area, dating to the Neolithic Age. The first settlements in Salzburg continuous with the present were apparently by the Celts around the 5th century BC.
Around 15 BC the separate settlements were merged into one city by the Roman Empire. At this time, the city was called "Juvavum" and was awarded the status of a Roman municipium in 45 AD. Juvavum developed into an important town of the Roman province of Noricum. After the collapse of the Norican frontier, Juvavum declined so sharply that by the late 7th century it nearly became a ruin.
A university (Latin: universitas, "a whole") is an institution of higher (or tertiary) education and research which grants academic degrees in various subjects and typically provides undergraduate education and postgraduate education. The word "university" is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly means "community of teachers and scholars."
The original Latin word "universitas" refers in general to "a number of persons associated into one body, a society, company, community, guild, corporation, etc." At the time of the emergence of urban town life and medieval guilds, specialised "associations of students and teachers with collective legal rights usually guaranteed by charters issued by princes, prelates, or the towns in which they were located" came to be denominated by this general term. Like other guilds, they were self-regulating and determined the qualifications of their members.
In modern usage the word has come to mean "An institution of higher education offering tuition in mainly non-vocational subjects and typically having the power to confer degrees," with the earlier emphasis on its corporate organization considered as applying historically to Medieval universities.

Guten Tag! This trip to Hallstatt and Salzburg was quite interesting to us. We lived in Austria for 4 months already and it was really cool to see the traditional side of Austria. I absolutely loved this random town called Gosau and to me it was so picturesque!! It looked like it was right out of a postcard! Oh, Austria would always be a home to me!

See more details on the blog: http://travelingmel.com Melynda found a free walking tour of Salzburg from BigBoyTravel.com and we took a whirlwind tour of Salzburg. It was post holiday markets and you might not think there's much to do in Salzburg in the winter but we were nearly the only tourists in the city that winter day so we were able to cover a lot of ground quickly. Downside: a few things closed before we could get to them. The winter Salzburg weather was cold and grey but we did get to try a sacher torte! 'Like' this video (really helps us out) and we would love to know your thoughts on this in the comments.
