A global city, also called world city or sometimes alpha city or world center, is a city generally considered to be an important node in the global economic system. The concept comes from geography and urban studies, and the idea that globalization can be understood as largely created, facilitated, and enacted in strategic geographic locales according to a hierarchy of importance to the operation of the global system of finance and trade.
The most complex of these entities is the "global city", whereby the linkages binding a city have a direct and tangible effect on global affairs through socio-economic means. The use of "global city", as opposed to "megacity", was popularized by sociologist Saskia Sassen in her 1991 work, The Global City: New York, London, Tokyo; although the term "world city", which refers to cities that control a disproportionate amount of global business, dates to at least the May 1886 description of Liverpool, by The Illustrated London News.Patrick Geddes also used the term "world city" later in 1915. More recently, the term has been described as being synonymous with a city's influence and 'financial capital', with other factors becoming less relevant.
Bonifacio Global City (also known as BGC, Global City, or The Fort) is a financial district in Taguig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It is located 11 km (6.8 mi) south-east of the center of Manila in an area disputed between the cities of Makati and Taguig as well as the municipality of Pateros. The area is currently under jurisdiction of the city of Taguig. In recent years, the district has experienced robust commercial growth through the sale of military land by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). The entire district used to be the part of the main Philippine Army camp.
In 1995, Bonifacio Land Development Corporation (BLDC) started planning a major urban development—Bonifacio Global City. BLDC made a successful bid to become BCDA's partner in the development of the district. The Ayala Corporation through Ayala Land, Inc., and Evergreen Holdings, Inc. of the Campos Group purchased a controlling stake in BLDC from Metro Pacific in 2003. BCDA and the two companies now control Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation, which oversees the master planning of Bonifacio Global City.
Global means of or referring to a globe and may also refer to:
A city is a large and permanent human settlement. Although there is no agreement on how a city is distinguished from a town in general English language meanings, many cities have a particular administrative, legal, or historical status based on local law.
Cities generally have complex systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing, and transportation. The concentration of development greatly facilitates interaction between people and businesses, benefiting both parties in the process, but it also presents challenges to managing urban growth.
A big city or metropolis usually has associated suburbs and exurbs. Such cities are usually associated with metropolitan areas and urban areas, creating numerous business commuters traveling to urban centers for employment. Once a city expands far enough to reach another city, this region can be deemed a conurbation or megalopolis. In terms of population, the largest city proper is Shanghai, while the fastest-growing is Dubai.
There is not enough evidence to assert what conditions gave rise to the first cities. Some theorists have speculated on what they consider suitable pre-conditions and basic mechanisms that might have been important driving forces.
Development corporations are bodies set up in England and Wales by the UK government charged with the urban development of an area, outside the usual system of Town and Country Planning in the United Kingdom. Members are appointed by central government and hence they are considered QUANGOs.
New Town development corporations were set up for all the designated New Towns in the United Kingdom. Urban development corporations also existed, which dealt with regeneration in already built-up areas.
The Localism Act 2011 permitted the Mayor of London to create mayoral development corporations in Greater London.

Inspirational film presenting The Global CIties Institute's ambitions. The Global Cities Institute focuses on the evolving role of cities and regions in realising social, economic and environmental aspirations. The institute, a not-for-profit initiative by Aecom, draws on the company's fully integrated planning, design, engineering and management capabilities to help improve cities. The 'CITY' graphic creatively evolves with each description from growing to shrinking, green to arid, wealthy to poor. The film effectively and artistically explores this cross section of cities, questioning the approach on how to deal with these current urban problems.

We created these two commercial image spots for Brookfield to present in the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival Pre-Show as part of their official TFF sponsorship. Given the fact that the attendees of TFF 2012 had limited knowledge of the international commercial real estate manager and developer, we set out to introduce and humanize the company, by presenting it as a unique group that really cares about our city and gives back to the community in countless significant ways. Based on this positive experience, Juniper Jones is extending its creative collaborations with Brookfield Office Properties for 2013, focusing on the company’s $250 million transformation of Lower Manhattan’s World Financial Center into Brookfield Place. “My Brother” is a personal tribute to the silent contributions of migrant workers globally. I grew up in the island city-state of Singapore, where encounters with migrants of countries as diverse as Bangladesh, Myanmar, China and the Philippines are part of everyday living. Many of them take on jobs that are considered by the larger public to be menial in nature. Sometimes, the differences in our cultures and socioeconomic statuses cause social friction. When we allow this to be left unchecked, it can evolve into darker displays of xenophobic behavior. But the inability to see past differences is not just a local issue; it is an increasingly global one. From where I am now in the United States, I am beginning to see how irresponsible political rhetoric, among other factors, influences pre...
