The Eiffel Tower (/ˈaɪfəl ˈtaʊər/ EYE-fəl TOWR; French: tour Eiffel [tuʁ‿ɛfɛl] listen) is a wrought iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Constructed in 1889 as the entrance to the 1889 World's Fair, it was initially criticized by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognisable structures in the world. The tower is the tallest structure in Paris and the most-visited paid monument in the world: 6.98 million people ascended it in 2011. The tower received its 250 millionth visitor in 2010.
The tower is 324 metres (1,063 ft) tall, about the same height as an 81-storey building. Its base is square, 125 metres (410 ft) on a side. During its construction, the Eiffel Tower surpassed the Washington Monument to become the tallest man-made structure in the world, a title it held for 41 years until the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930. Due to the addition of the aerial at the top of the tower in 1957, it is now taller than the Chrysler Building by 5.2 metres (17 ft). Not including broadcast aerials, it is the second-tallest structure in France, after the Millau Viaduct.
Eiffel may refer to:
A tower is a tall structure, taller than it is wide, often by a significant margin. Towers are distinguished from masts by their lack of guy-wires and are therefore, along with tall buildings, self-supporting structures.
Towers are specifically distinguished from "buildings" in that they are not built to be habitable but to serve other functions. The principal function is the use of their height to enable various functions to be achieved including: visibility of other features attached to the tower such clock towers; as part of a larger structure or device to increase the visibility of the surroundings as in a fortified building such as a castle; or as a structural feature as an integral part of a bridge.
Towers can be stand alone structures or be supported by adjacent buildings or can be a feature on top of a large structure or building.
Towers have been used by mankind since prehistoric times. The oldest known may be the circular stone tower in walls of Neolithic Jericho (8000 BC). Some of the earliest towers were ziggurats, which existed in Sumerian architecture since the 4th millennium BC. The most famous ziggurats include the Sumerian Ziggurat of Ur, built the 3rd millennium BC, and the Etemenanki, one of the most famous examples of Babylonian architecture. The latter was built in Babylon during the 2nd millennium BC and was considered the tallest tower of the ancient world.

Visiting the Eiffel Tower just got a new meaning. Extreme drone and POV footage from climbing the world's most famous tower. It's almost impossible to get to the tower illegally (do not try to repeat this) especially in view of recent political developments and the ongoing European Football Championship. Police and national guard are always on duty on the premises of the tower. The shoot was carried out in the rainy season. The level of Seine river broke the 30-year-old record and the wind speed reached up to 6m/s. The poor drone operator not only crashed the drone but also received a pretty big fine. The Eiffel Tower has been one of my goals for quite a while. Plan A for the Tower was to buy tickets to the second platform & climb out of one of the stairways. This immediately failed as it was just too busy. We didn't really have a plan B so we decided to commit to climbing right up the side from the ground & see what happens. We started the climb at 1AM narrowly avoiding the patrolling security (which seemed more like the French army as they were in full camo & had massive guns) & wormed our way through what seemed like endless CCTV cameras. Once we reached about 20 meters up the side of the tower it appeared we'd made it through what would normally be the riskiest part of any climb. As far as I could tell, the tower was ours for the night. After slowly making our way up through the fra...
In July of 2009, I had just arrived in Paris and went to go see the Eiffel tower. I sat down in the Champ de Mars and set up my tripod and camera to take a nice sunset timelapse of the tower. After the time-lapse had begun, I quickly noticed that a storm was moving in and figured that I would get a chance to capture a bolt of lightning hitting the tower. I figured I was safe with my tiny metal tripod on the grass....at least until the rain moved it. I was able to capture a few bolts directly hitting the tower and had to run for cover when the skies opened up and there was an absolute downpour. Production music courtesy of Epidemic Sound

If it's your first time to Paris, you'll probably want to spend some time at the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, and Notre-Dame, but don't miss out on lesser-known jewels like the Musée Rodin, the Musée de l'Orangerie, and the many markets. There's no way you'll get to do it all — museum-touring, shopping, cemetery-perusing, district-exploring, opera-attending — so plan your own itinerary, group sightseeing nearby attractions together and see Paris on your own terms. We walked past 18 of the biggest tourist sites in Paris and it ended up being over 18 miles. It definitely made our feet sore, but it was so, so worth it! If you have any questions about our itinerary feel free to comment below! Sites: 1. Sacré-Cœur 2. Moulin Rouge 3.Galeries Lafayette 4.Opéra - Palais Garnier 5. Place Vendôme 6. Five cities, three countries, twelve days, my mom, and me. All mashed together because I know no one is going to click through an entire photo album of this stuff. Blink and you may miss something, but that's kind of what it was like being there too. It was a very efficient trip. 7/7: SFO --> ORD Our original itinerary did not include Chicago. There was a crash at SFO the day before we left, so our flight was delayed at origin and we missed our connection from ORD. 7/7 - 7/8: Chicago, ORD --> AMS The next direct flight from O'Hare to Schiphol (Amsterdam) was a full 24 hours later, so we decided to make the best of it by exploring the cultural splendors of Chicago. In the morning, we took the 'L' downtown to the Chicago Art Institute. Sooo much famous stuff there. On our way back, w...

I highly recommend using Viator to book your tours, excursions and museum passes ahead of time which is what we did, see: https://www.viator.com/raf/ME3I9ONO1 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Personal Branding Strategies | Real Talk with Carlos Gil Episode 3" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5m4xPhnIxM -~-~~-~~~-...

In Paris, a down and out medical student Johann Radek (Franchot Tone) is paid by Bill Kirby (Robert Hutton) to murder his wealthy aunt. A knife grinder (Burgess Meredith) is suspected, but Radek keeps taunting the police until they realize that he is the killer. The police and Maigret (Charles Laughton) are led on chases through the streets and over the rooftops of Paris and finally up the girders of the Eiffel Tower. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "An American in Berlin? - Oliver Hardy ~ with Philip Hutchinson" ➨ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Joj2rg0j4n8 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Donate for our restoration project of historic material: http://www.leetchi.com/c/pool-von-interpathe-16620838
The Sun sets on this valley
Carbonized by nuclear blasts
Soon darkening the remains
Where mutants life forms dwell
Unburied bones lie scattered
And dead devices rust
The DNA of a dead world
Awaits beneath the crust
A contorted form of life
Inherits our domain of decadence
Giving birth to hybrid creatures
Its branches point up to a dead sky
The roots leave open sores on the soil
Which once was living
The Evil Tree
Nature's aim is continuation
Throught the perils of life
After endless evolution
This living form will last
The Sun set on this valley
Where a new life is born
Rotten is the trunk
Fingered branches grasp the void
Festering fruits esplode scattering the seeds
Dreadful shapeless creatures
Shouting out their greed of existence
With a cruel voice
Where death with it’s merciful silence
