The 69 Eyes

The 69 Eyes are a multi-platinum selling Finnish rock band. They are currently signed to EMI Finland. The band's albums are now distributed worldwide. The End Records acts as the band's official North American distributor, as Nuclear Blast Records provides distribution in Mainland Europe, Ireland and the UK. Australia will be handled by AmpHead Music. All Asian and Latin American releases are handled by EMI affiliates.

Music style

Initially, The 69 Eyes' music style was of glam metal and sleaze rock, influenced by acts such as Mötley Crüe and Hanoi Rocks. However, they began to incorporate more influence from gothic rock bands such as The Mission, The Cult, The Sisters of Mercy and The Lords of the New Church. Their sound was described as a mix of the gloominess of gothic rock with guitar-powered rock'n'roll. Their music continued to show further influence from other rock artists such as The Doors, Elvis Presley, and Billy Idol as well as vampire films and literature. The term "goth 'n roll" is used by fans to describe their style. They are often described as a dark rock band, a term which the band has embraced. In recent times, with the release of Back in Blood The 69 Eyes have moved back to a more guitar based sound, although gothic imagery and lyrical themes remain forefront in their style.

Ghost (production team)

Ghost is a Swedish record producing and songwriting team, composed of Ulf Lindström and Johan Ekhé, based in New York City. They are perhaps best known for writing and producing Swedish singer Robyn's three first studio albums, Robyn Is Here (1996), My Truth (1999), and Don't Stop the Music (2002). Robyn's "Keep This Fire Burning" from 2003 was the fourth most played song by Swedish songwriters on Swedish radio from 2000–2009. It was later covered by British soul singer Beverley Knight.

In 2005 Darin released "Money for Nothing", written by Ghost, Robyn and Danish songwriter Remee, which won a Swedish Grammis award for "Song of the Year". Additional credits included Sadie, Orup, Ana Johnsson, No Angels, Laura Pausini, and Thomas Helmig. Ghost co-produced Darin's two albums The Anthem and the self-titled Darin. Co-producers included RedOne, Jörgen Elofsson, Arnthor Birgisson, Johan Brorson and George Samuelson for the first album and RedOne, Samuelson and Elofsson for the second.

Urban 13

The Urban 13 was a research-sharing association originally between thirteen public urban universities, but eventually grew to include 22 institutions when it was succeeded by the Great Cities' Universities coalition in 1998. All Urban 13 institutions were based in major U.S. metropolitan areas.

Alexander technique

The Alexander technique, named after Frederick Matthias Alexander, sets out to teach people how to avoid unnecessary muscular and mental tension during their everyday activities. It is an educational process rather than a relaxation technique or form of exercise. Most other methods take it for granted that 'one's awareness of oneself' is accurate, whereas Alexander said that people who had been using their musculature wrongly for a long time could not trust their feelings (sensory appreciation) in carrying out any activity or in responding to situations emotionally. Practitioners say that such problems are often caused by repeated misuse of one's musculature over a long period of time, for example, by standing or sitting with one's weight unevenly distributed, holding one's head incorrectly, walking or running inefficiently, or responding to stressful stimuli in an exaggerated way. The purpose of the Alexander technique is to help people unlearn maladaptive psychophysical habits and return to a balanced state of rest and poise in which one's musculature is functioning as an integrated whole.

Direction – Social Democracy (Slovak: Smer–sociálna demokracia, Smer-SD) is a social-democraticpolitical party in Slovakia. It is led by Robert Fico who serves his second term as a Prime Minister of Slovakia. Smer-SD is the largest party in the National Council, with an absolute majority of 83 seats (out of 150) following the Parliamentary Election held on 10 March 2012.

History

Originally named Direction, the party emerged as a breakaway from the Party of the Democratic Left (SDĽ) on 8 November 1999. Under Fico, at the time one of the most popular politicians in the country, it quickly surpassed the SDĽ. In 2003 it changed its formal name to Direction (Third Way) (Slovak: Smer (tretia cesta)). In 2005, it absorbed SDĽ and several other centre-left parties and adopted its current name. Following the party's victory in 2006, Smer entered into a coalition with the nationalist Slovak National Party (SNS). For this, it was suspended from membership of the Party of European Socialists (PES). The PES Chairman, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, explained in The Slovak Spectator that "Most of our members stood solidly behind our values, according to which forming a coalition with the extreme right is unacceptable."Smer was readmitted into the PES in 2008.
