Žagarė

Žagarė ( pronunciation , see also other names) is a city located in the Joniškis district, northern Lithuania, close to the border with Latvia. It has a population of about 2,000.

Names

Žagarė's name is probably derived from the Lithuanian word žagaras, meaning "twig". Other renderings of the name include: Latvian: Žagare, Polish: Żagory, Yiddish: Zhagar זשאַגאַר‎.

History

The foundation of Žagarė dates back to the 12th century. It was an important centre of Semigallian warriors, who fought against the Livonian Brothers of the Sword and the Livonian Order. The cult of Barbora Žagarietė, servant of god, originated in the town in mid-1600s.

It long had a Jewish population who contributed to its culture. Yisroel Salanter (1810–1883), the father of the 19th-century Mussar movement in Orthodox Judaism, was born there. Isaak Kikoin (1908–1984), a renowned Soviet physicist, was also born there. During World War II and the German occupation, the Germans set up a Jewish ghetto in Žagarė, to hold Jews from Šiauliai Ghetto. In a massacre of the Einsatzgruppe A at the Yom Kippur the 2nd. October 1941 all Jews where cruely killed by the Lithuanian population at the marketplace and buried in Naryshkin Park. The blood was flowing to the Svete River and the Fire brigade had to wash it away.

Agar, India

Agar ia a town with a municipal government in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the administrative headquarters for the Agar Malwa District which was formed in 2013 from a part of Shajapur District. The town is situated along the Indore—Kota SH-27 highway.

History

Agar was the capital of the Parmar Kingdom during the 10th century along with Avantika (Ujjain), then it was the most popular visiting place of Mughal kingdom when Mandu was its capital. The Mughals liked to spend summer vacations there because the temperature during summer nights was very low compared to other areas in the region. During the Sindia state a number of palaces were built which today are used for city court and for other government offices.

As of 2001 India census, In the 2001 census, Agar had a population of 31,202, where males constituted 51.8% of the population and females 48.2%. In the 2011 census the population had grown to 50,000. Males now constituted 52% of the population and females 48%.

Agar.io

Agar.io is a massively multiplayer action game created by Matheus Valadares. Players control a cell in a map representing a petri dish; the goal is to gain as much mass as possible by swallowing smaller cells without being swallowed by bigger ones. The name Agar.io comes from the substance agar, used to culture bacteria.

The game was released to positive critical reception. Critics particularly praised its simplicity, competition, and mechanics, while criticism targeted its repetitive gameplay. A downloadable Steam version was announced on 3 May 2015, and the mobile version of Agar.io for iOS and Android was released on 8 July 2015 by Miniclip.

Gameplay

The objective of Agar.io is to grow a cell by swallowing both randomly generated pellets, which slightly increase a cell's mass, and smaller cells without being swallowed by larger cells. It can be played in a deathmatch (free-for-all) or between teams. The goal of the game is to obtain the largest cell; players restart when all of their cells are swallowed. Players can change their cell's appearance with predefined words, phrases, symbols or skins. The more mass a cell has, the slower it will move. Cells gradually lose mass over time.

Jean (dog)

Jean, also known as the Vitagraph Dog (190? – 1916), was a female Collie that performed leading roles in early silent films. She was the first canine star in the United States having been preceded by the first, Blair, Cecil Hepworth's dog, in England. She however was the first canine to have her name in the title of her films. She was a precursor to other famous U.S. dog actors like Teddy, the Sennett Dog, Pete the Pup, Strongheart and Rin Tin Tin.

Life and career

Around 1908, Maine resident and writer Laurence Trimble sold an animal story to a New York magazine. It paved the way for him to visit Vitagraph Studios with his dog, Jean, to do a story on film making. Trimble and his pet just happened to be on the set at a time when the company needed a dog to play a scene opposite Florence Turner. As a result, dog and master were asked to stay and both became members of the Vitagraph stock company.

"Jean was equal in popularity to Vitagraph's human stars, Florence Turner and Maurice Costello," wrote film historian Anthony Slide. Jean was soon known as the Vitagraph Dog, starring in her own films, all directed by Trimble. One-reelers and two-reelers with titles such as Jean and the Calico Doll, Jean and the Waif and Jean Goes Fishing were made by Trimble as their troupe filmed along the coastline in his native Maine.

Jean (footballer)

Jean Raphael Vanderlei Moreira or simply Jean (born 24 June 1986 in Campo Grande), is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Fluminense. Mainly a defensive midfielder, he can also play as a right defender.

Made professional debut for São Paulo in a 1-2 away defeat to Santos in the Campeonato Brasileiro on 17 July 2005.

On 13 November 2012 Jean was called up, by Mano Menezes, for Brazil that will play Superclásico de las Américas, making, then, his début for Seleção.
