The United States House of Representatives is one of the two houses of the United States Congress (a bicameral legislature) alongside the Senate.
The composition and powers of the House are established in Article One of the United States Constitution. The major power of the House is to pass federal legislation that affects the entire country, although its bills must also be passed by the Senate and further agreed to by the U.S. President before becoming law (unless both the House and Senate re-pass the legislation with a two-thirds majority in each chamber). The House has some exclusive powers: the power to initiate revenue bills, to impeach officials (impeached officials are subsequently tried in the Senate), and to elect the U.S. President in case there is no majority in the Electoral College.
Each U.S. state is represented in the House in proportion to its population as measured in the census, but every state is entitled to at least one representative. The most populous state, California, currently has 53 representatives. On the other end of the spectrum, there are seven states with only one representative each (Alaska, Delaware, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming). The total number of voting representatives is fixed by law at 435. In addition there are six non-voting Representatives who have a voice on the floor and a vote in committees, but no vote on the floor.
House of Representatives is the name of legislative bodies in many countries and sub-national entitles. In many countries, the House of Representatives is the lower house of a bicameral legislature, with the corresponding upper house often called a "Senate". In some countries, the House of Representatives is the sole chamber of a unicameral legislature.
The functioning of a house of representatives can vary greatly from country to country, and depends on whether a country has a parliamentary or a presidential system. Members of a House of Representatives are typically apportioned according to population rather than geography.
The Indonesian People's Representative Council (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat, DPR) is generally known in English as the "House of Representatives", as is the Dewan Rakyat of the Parliament of Malaysia and the Dáil Éireann of the Irish Oireachtas parliament. In the 2012 draft for a new Constitution of Egypt, the People's Assembly is called "House of Representatives".
A house is a building that functions as a home, ranging from simple dwellings such as rudimentary huts of nomadic tribes and the improvised shacks in shantytowns to complex, fixed structures of wood, brick, marble or other materials containing plumbing, ventilation and electrical systems. Most conventional modern houses in Western cultures will contain a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen or cooking area, and a living room. In traditional agriculture-oriented societies, domestic animals such as chickens or larger livestock (like cattle) may share part of the house with humans. The social unit that lives in a house is known as a household. Most commonly, a household is a family unit of some kind, although households may also be other social groups or individuals. The design and structure of the house is also subject to change as a consequence of globalization, urbanization and other social, economic, demographic, and technological reasons. Various other cultural factors also influence the building style and patterns of domestic space.

http://www.tomrichey.net Tom Richey explains the powers of the distinctive characteristics of the two houses of the United States Congress: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate is the Upper House of Congress where all states are represented equally in a small legislative body with aristocratic traditions. The House of Representatives, or Lower House, is a larger body with seats apportioned based on population. In addition to its unique aristocratic traditions of "senatorial courtesy," the Senate has the distinct powers of ratifying treaties and confirming presidential appointments to the federal bench, the cabinet, and of foreign ambassadors. The House, being closest to the people and elected more often, has the sole authority to initiate revenue (taxation) bills. ...

A resolution of rebuke was put forward by Republicans after Congressman Murtha used his now famous strong arm tactics while serving as Acting Speaker of the House, in violation of House standards and practices. House Democrat Leader Hoyer moved to "table" or prevent a vote and debate on the resolution from taking place. But in doing so, he added the words "enough is enough". Hoyer's statement "enough is enough" was in itself a form of debate and triggered House Rules requiring that one hour be set aside for debate. Later, House Records were scrubbed of Hoyer's comment making Boehner's inquiry appear without foundation. What Nancy Pelosi promised would be "the most open ethical congress in history" is quickly turning into one of the meanest, most dishonest bunch of flim flammers...

http://bookinghunter.com Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, "the District", or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. On July 16, 1790, the Residence Act approved the creation of a capital district located along the Potomac River on the country's East Coast. As permitted by the U.S. Constitution, the District is under the exclusive jurisdiction of the United States Congress and is therefore not a part of any U.S. state. The most important places to visit in Washington, D.C., are: The White House (symbolically the most important building of the country, US Presidents have lived and worked here for more than 200 years), Washington Monument (dominating the Washington DC skyline and dedicated to the first US President George...

The US House of Representatives has voted to keep restrictions on US citizens travelling to Cuba, despite a recent thaw in relations. The Republican-controlled chamber rejected proposals to allow regular scheduled flights to the island. It also said a rule should remain requiring Americans to get a special licence before going to Cuba. President Barack Obama has threatened to veto the bill. New rules issued by the Obama administration in January were aimed at easing travel restrictions to Cuba and allowing scheduled flights for the first time. But Republican Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart said the White House was wrong to lift the restrictions. He said it would mean flights landing at an airport that was partially owned by US interests when it was seized by the Cuban government. http://www...

Take a tour of US Capitol in Washington, DC -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. Hi, I am Naomi and I am very excited to show you the world's greatest attractions. The US Capitol building in Washington DC plays an important rule in government and in the city's skyline. The building houses the legislative branches of the US government. The design is a result of a competition created by the Founding Fathers in 1793. The original flag did not have nearly as many stars as it does today. Most of the dome as seen today was built during Abraham Lincoln's administration. The interior is highlighted by the Rotunda, whose high domed ceilings separates the chambers of the US Senate and the House of Representatives. The Rotunda features some of the country's m...

H.R. 1424 House of Representatives Vote Friday 03 October 2008
The three contestants in Montana’s special Congressional election squared off on Saturday in their only televised debate before the May 25th election. Republican Greg Gianforte, Democrat Rob Quist, and Libertarian Mark Wicks debated in Great Falls.
