Louisiana (i/luːˌiːziˈænə/ or i/ˌluːziˈænə/; French: État de Louisiane, [lwizjan]; Louisiana Creole: Léta de la Lwizyàn) is a state located in the southern region of the United States. Louisiana is the 31st most extensive and the 25th most populous of the 50 United States. Its capital is Baton Rouge and largest city is New Orleans. Louisiana is the only state in the U.S. with political subdivisions termed parishes, which are the local government's equivalent to counties. The largest parish by population is East Baton Rouge Parish, and the largest by land area is Plaquemines. Louisiana is bordered by Arkansas to the north, Mississippi to the east, Texas to the west, and the Gulf of Mexico to the south.
Much of the state's lands were formed from sediment washed down the Mississippi River, leaving enormous deltas and vast areas of coastal marsh and swamp. These contain a rich southern biota; typical examples include birds such as ibis and egrets. There are also many species of tree frogs, and fish such as sturgeon and paddlefish. In more elevated areas, fire is a natural process in the landscape, and has produced extensive areas of longleaf pine forest and wet savannas. These support an exceptionally large number of plant species, including many species of orchids and carnivorous plants.
Robert Sylvester Kelly (born January 8, 1967), known professionally as R. Kelly, is an American recording artist, songwriter, record producer, and former professional basketball player. A native of Chicago, Illinois, often referred to as the King of R&B, Kelly began performing during the late 1980s and debuted in 1992 with the group Public Announcement. In 1993, Kelly went solo with the album 12 Play. He is known for a collection of major hit singles including "Bump N' Grind", "Your Body's Callin'", "I Believe I Can Fly", "Gotham City", "Ignition (Remix)", "If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time", "The World's Greatest", "I'm a Flirt (Remix)", and the hip-hopera "Trapped in the Closet". In 1998, Kelly won three Grammy Awards for "I Believe I Can Fly". His distinctive sound and style has influenced numerous hip hop and contemporary R&B artists. Kelly became the first music star to play professional basketball, when he got signed in 1997.
Kelly has written, produced, and remixed songs and albums for many artists, including Aaliyah's 1994 debut album Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. In 1996, Kelly was nominated for a Grammy for writing Michael Jackson's song "You Are Not Alone". In 2002 and 2004, Kelly released collaboration albums with rapper Jay-Z and has been a guest vocalist for other hip hop artists like Nas, Sean Combs, and The Notorious B.I.G.

Jo Ann Kelly (5 January 1944 – 21 October 1990) was an English blues singer and guitarist. "To many American performers", an obituarist wrote, "Jo Ann Kelly was the only British singer to earn their respect for her development of what they would be justified in thinking as 'their' genre".
Kelly was born in Streatham, South London. She and her brother, Dave, were both musicians. She appeared on two albums with Tony McPhee. Me and the Devil (1968) and I Asked for Water, She Gave Me Gasoline (1969) were both released on Liberty Records. She also appeared on two John Dummer Band albums: John Dummer Blues Band (1969) and Oobleedoobleejubilee (1973).
Canned Heat and Johnny Winter both tried to recruit Kelly, but she preferred to stay in the United Kingdom. She expanded to the European club circuit, where she worked with guitarist Pete Emery and with other bands. In the early 1980s, she was a member of the Terry Smith Blues Band.
In 1988, Kelly began to suffer from headaches. In 1989 she had an operation to remove a malignant brain tumour. She died in 1990, aged 46.
Louisiana Blues - Jo Ann Kelly 1969 Produced by Nick Perls The picture on stage is Jo Ann Kelly with Son House. It doesn't get any better than that. The Blues and Gospel EP is rare. The rock era saw a few white female singers, like Janis Joplin, show they could sing the blues. But one who could outshine them all -- Jo Ann Kelly -- seemed to slip through the cracks, mostly because she favored the acoustic, Delta style rather than rocking out with a heavy band behind her. But with a huge voice, and a strong guitar style influenced by Memphis Minnie and Charley Patton, she was the queen. Born January 5, 1944, Kelly and her older brother Dave were both taken by the blues, and born at the right time to take advantage of a young British blues scene in the early '60s. By 1964 she w...

”You must evaluate whether the system you’re part of could be effectuated differently.” Meet artist Mette Winckelmann who believes that abstract painting communicates deeper than language and explore her visual take on gender politics. ”It’s hard to comprehend when a political conviction is delivered through an abstract expression instead of saying it directly,” Mette Winckelmann states. There are no slogans or overtly political imagery in her geometric paintings, yet a clear feminist message is the inspiration behind. Her group of works entitled ’I Like Older Women’ was based on a political badge found at the Lesbian Herstory Archives in New York City. Winckelmann moulded the forms and colours of the badge into her large-scale painting as a representation of gender politics. ”I see th...

70-minute interview with Patti Smith from the Louisiana Literature festival in Denmark 2012. "I thought we didn't have to grow up. I was heart broken to find out that we didn't have a choice." Patti Smith is still running wild, staying young at heart. "We contain multitudes" begins Patti Smith (b.1946) in this interview about her many different energies and ways of expressing herself. She goes on to demonstrate this: Reading from her book 'Woolgathering' (1992), talking about spirituality and prayer and how we all have creative impulses. Patti Smith also performs 'Fire of Unknown Origin', talks about her big love Robert Mapplethorpe, about inspiration, writing and art, and reads from her book 'Just Kids' (2010). Finally Patti Smith offers advice to the young, and talks about the world tod...
Chris Stelly talks about the digital media tax incentives programs available from the State of Louisiana
It's good to have a window on the world
And to live deep in the heart of the beast in the sun
Night after night, I do the same damn thing
Do the weirdness dance, for those who can't
It's getting to the point where I can't take it anymore
Waking up at 3 pm
In a thrashed bedroom, sharp with needles and knives
Reach for the crutches that keep in motion
Vague memories that keep me alive
Like when she used to call me baby
All alone in our room, in the middle of the night
Kill the sun, yes, kill the sun
Kill the sun
Come on, come on, stop the light
Yes, I 've got sunshine
It's a suicide song in the back of my mind
Pure white evilwrapped around my eyes
Yeah I've got all the cities of light to live in
I don't even want no part
Hard is the fall
Cold is the bite
Kill the sun, yeah come on stop the light...
