Anne Marie Wilkes Dugan, usually known as Annie Wilkes, is a character in the 1987 novel Misery, by Stephen King. In the 1990 film adaptation of the novel, Annie Wilkes was portrayed by Kathy Bates, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal. The American Film Institute included Annie Wilkes (as played by Bates) in their "100 Heroes and Villains" list, ranking her as the 17th most iconic villain (and sixth most iconic villainess) in film history. A nurse by training, she has become one of the stereotypes of the nurse as a torturer and angel of death.
The novel provides Wilkes' backstory, stating that she was born in Bakersfield, California on April 1, 1943 and graduated from the University of Southern California's nursing school in 1966. After several years of working in hospitals across the country, she settled in a remote portion of Colorado's Western Slope.
Wilkes rescues Paul Sheldon after he breaks both of his legs in a car accident, and takes him to her home to convalesce. She fawns over Sheldon, a writer of romance novels starring her favorite literary character, Misery Chastain; she professes to be his "number one fan" and says that she loves him. She also implies that she has visited the hotel where Sheldon finishes his novels as he was staying there. These statements, and the fact that she is not in a hurry to take him to a hospital, make Sheldon uneasy. Sheldon has studied psychological disorders as part of his research for the Misery series, and suspects early on that Wilkes is mentally unstable.

"The Red" is the breakthrough single from the band Chevelle. It is the fifth track and lead single from their major label debut, Wonder What's Next, released in 2002. Former Major League Baseball player Geoff Blum used "The Red" as his intro song when he came up to bat.
The song is about dealing with frustration and anger. Its music video depicts an anger management seminar where vocalist Pete Loeffler ascends a podium and sings the verse lyrics. The video then breaks to Chevelle performing the heavy chorus under red lighting. The agitated seminar participants, which include band members Sam and Joe, begin tossing folding chairs. By the end of the song, it is revealed that the fight happened to be just a dream.
Misery is a 1987 psychological horror novel by Stephen King. The novel was nominated for the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel in 1988, and was later made into a Hollywood film and an off-Broadway play of the same name. When King was writing Misery in 1985 he planned the book to be released under the pseudonym Richard Bachman but the identity of the pseudonym was discovered before the release of the book.
The novel focuses on Paul Sheldon, a writer famous for Victorian-era romance novels involving the character of Misery Chastain. One day he is rescued from a car crash by crazed fan Annie Wilkes, who transports him to her home and, once finding out what he has done to Misery in his latest book, forces him to write a new book modifying the story - no matter what it takes.
Paul Sheldon, the author of a best-selling series of Victorian-era romance novels surrounding the heroine character Misery Chastain, has just finished the manuscript of his new crime novel, Fast Cars, while staying at the Hotel Boulderado; since 1974, he has completed the first draft of every one of his novels in the same hotel room. With his latest project finished, he has an alcohol-induced impulse to drive to Los Angeles rather than fly back home to New York City. However, a snowstorm hits while he is driving through the mountains. Sheldon drives off a cliff and crashes upside down into a snowbank.

Tonight I'm joined by Academy Award-winner Kathy Bates. Throughout her remarkable career, she has delivered a number of iconic performances, including her breakthrough role in the 1990 film Misery, and more recently, her scene-stealing turn in the FX show American Horror Story. In addition to her stellar on-screen work, Bates has served as an inspiration for many as a cancer survivor and spokesperson for the Lymphatic Education & Research Network. One of Hollywood's most respected character actors, Bates has been able to achieve success in an industry that is notoriously biased against certain age groups and image types. In the clip above, she shares when she learned to develop tough skin in order to deal with what can often be an insensitive business. For more of our conversation, be su...

I was there through the ages, chained slaves to their cages
I have seen you eat your own
I'm the cycle of pain, of a thousand year old reign
I'm suicide and salvation, the omen to nations
That you worship on all fours
I'm the infection and famine, that's knockin' at your door
That's why you're feeling so
Unholy
Yeah, I was created by man, you know I'm
Unholy
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I am the incubus, I lay the egg in you
The worm that burrows through your brain
But you are the beast, that calls me by my name
You send your children to war
To serve bastards and whores
So now you know
You created me on the day that you were born
Unholy
Yeah, I was created by man, you know I'm
Unholy
From the left hand of power comes the father of lies, yeah
Unholy, unholy
I lay you down to sleep, your soul to keep
Better cross your heart before you die
Now you know, know that you are mine
That's why you're feeling so
