Beasley is the name of a neighbourhood in the Lower City of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The Beasley neighbourhood is bounded in the north by the Canadian National Railway tracks just north of Barton Street, James Street (west), Main Street (south) and Wellington Street (east).

History

The Beasley neighbourhood is one of the oldest and one of the first 4 neighbourhoods of Hamilton. The other three being Central, Durand and Corktown. Named after Richard Beasley, (1761-1842), was a soldier, political figure, farmer and businessman in Upper Canada. Richard Beasley was one of Hamilton's first settlers who came to Canada from New York in 1777. Beasley occupied Burlington Heights (now the site of Dundurn and Harvey Parks) in 1790 & was granted land by the Crown in 1799. A local entrepreneur, Beasley's business ventures included fur trading, land acquisition and establishment of a grill mill in Ancaster. He was a member of the legislative assembly of Upper Canada from 1791 to 1804 and was appointed colonel of the 2nd regiment of the York militia in 1809. Financial difficulties forced Beasley to sell lands at Burlington Heights, but it was purchased in 1832 by Sir Allan Napier MacNab who built Dundurn Castle on foundations of Beasley's brick home.

Randy (album)

Randy (subtitled Băp!! Beep Boo-Bee Băp Beep-M-Boo Bee Băp!) is an album by American jazz pianist Randy Weston recorded in 1963 and originally released on Weston's own label, Bakton. The album was later reissued in 1972 on the Atlantic label under the title African Cookbook.

Reception

Allmusic awarded the album 4 stars, stating: "When this set was recorded in 1964, pianist Randy Weston had no luck interesting any label to release the music, so he came out with it independently on his tiny Bakton company... It is surprising that no company in the mid-1960s signed Weston up because "Willie's Tune" from the set had the potential to catch on, "Berkshire Blues" is somewhat known and the mixture of accessible bop with African rhythms overall is appealing... An excellent outing."

Ibán Iyanga Travieso (born 2 June 1987), commonly known as Randy, is an Equatoguinean footballer who plays for Cypriot club Aris Limassol as a left winger but also as a right back.

Club career

Born in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain to an Equatoguinean father and a Spanish mother, Randy made his professional debuts with local UD Las Palmas, playing once for the first team in the 2008–09 season, as it was in the second division. He spent the vast majority of his spell, however, mainly associated to the reserve side.

In the following summer, Randy served a season-long loan at CD Mirandés, in the third level. In 2013, after only nine league appearances in two seasons combined and one year with amateurs CA Ceuta, he signed for Moroccan club Moghreb Tétouan; however, shortly after, he asked for the termination of his three-year contract due to personal reasons, and moved to Fokikos A.C. in the Football League (Greece).

International career

In July 2010 Randy received his first call for the Equatoguinean national team, for a friendly match against Morocco on 11 August. However, he rejected the call to concentrate on club duties with Las Palmas' first team.
