For example, for the Ottoman Turks Hagia Sophia was the most important mosque of the capital city Istanbul. Most of the sultans used to come here to pray Fridays, and the ceremony and throning of the new sultan was made in Hagia Sophia. So this shows us that even though it was built by Christian Byzantines, Hagia Sophia was the most important temple for the Ottomans for about 450 years." 12. Pan dome 13. But in Islamic times the main problem was that Muslims can't pray in a place which is full of pictures, any kind of pictures, it is forbidden in Islam religion. So the Turks, the Ottomans, decided to plaster them rather than destroying them, it's much nicer actually. So they put white plaster all over the pictures." 17.
