Göreme (pronounced [ˈɟøɾeme]; Ancient Greek: Κόραμα, Kòrama), located among the "fairy chimney" rock formations, is a town in Cappadocia, a historical region of Turkey. It is in the Nevşehir Province in Central Anatolia and has a population of around 2,000 people.
Former names of the town have been Korama, Matiana, Maccan or Machan, and Avcilar. When Göreme Valley nearby was designated an important tourist destination, a "center" for all tourism in Cappadocia, the name of the town was changed to Göreme for practical reasons.
The Göreme National Park (Göreme Tarihî Millî Parkı in Turkish) was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.
The time that the Göreme was first settled is unclear, but it could date back as the Hittite era, between 1800 and 1200 B.C. The location was central between rivaling empires, such as the Greeks and Persians, leading the natives to tunnel into the rock to escape the political turmoil. During the Roman era, the area became home to Christians retreating from Rome. Christianity prevailed as the primary religion in the region, which is evident from many rock churches that can still be seen today.
Cappadocia (/kæpəˈdoʊʃə/; also Capadocia; Turkish: Kapadokya, Greek: Καππαδοκία Kappadokía, from Ancient Greek: Καππαδοκία, from Old Persian: Katpatuka) is a historical region in Central Anatolia, largely in the Nevşehir, Kayseri, Aksaray, and Niğde Provinces in Turkey. In Ancient Greek Καππαδοξ (genitive -οκος) means "a Cappadocian".
In the time of Herodotus, the Cappadocians were reported as occupying the whole region from Mount Taurus to the vicinity of the Euxine (Black Sea). Cappadocia, in this sense, was bounded in the south by the chain of the Taurus Mountains that separate it from Cilicia, to the east by the upper Euphrates and the Armenian Highland, to the north by Pontus, and to the west by Lycaonia and eastern Galatia.
The name, traditionally used in Christian sources throughout history, continues in use as an international tourism concept to define a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage.
Frilandsmuseet (English: The Open Air Museum) is an open-air museum in Lyngby at the northern outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark. Opened in 1897 and covering 40 hectares, it is one of the largest and oldest open-air museums in the world.
It is a department under the Danish National Museum and is part of the research done on agricultural history
The museum features more than 100 buildings from rural environments and dating from 1650-1950. All buildings are original and have been moved piece by piece from their original location save a windmill that is still found in its original location.
The museum contains rural buildings from all regions of Denmark, including many of the small and remote Danish islands like Bornholm, Læsø. Represented are also buildings from the Faroe Islands, as well as the former Danish possessions of Southern Schleswig in Germany and Scania and Halland in Sweden. The distribution demonstrates how life has been adapted to regional living conditions and availability of materials. Buildings include a farmhouse from the island of Læsø thatched with kelp.
Open Air was BBC1's flagship programme for their new daytime service which began on 27 October 1986. In 1987 an additional early morning episode was added, following the end of Breakfast Time, to help promote and inform viewers what topics would be covered in the main edition.
Open Air had similarities to Channel 4's programme Right to Reply, as it discussed all aspects of television and also tried to answer any questions which viewers had. Unlike Right to Reply, Open Air was transmitted live each weekday and had live phone-ins. The series covered all television channels and would often have programme makers and television management explaining their actions. It ended in 1990, after 4 series.

Travel video about destination Cappadocia in Turkey. In Central Anatolia in the heart of Turkey is the enchanting landscape of Cappadocia that has managed to retain its natural beauty right up to the present day, with numerous ruins, mystical cave dwellings, unique rock formations and where the earliest traces of human habitation date back to the seventh century B.C. Just outside the town of Göreme, the Valley Of Monks once had a special attraction for those who came here and today there are the remains of monk dwellings as well as various early Christians churches. The entrances were built in order to not attract attention but their interiors hide a number of fascinating treasures. Close to the ancient Christian settlements are countless bizarre rock formations which, due to their shape, ...
Travel video about destination Cappadocia. In the middle of Central Anatolia, in the heart of Turkey, is an extraordinary and captivating landscape, Cappadocia, a wonderful fairy-tale land formed of tuff stone and ‘fairy chimneys’ in which tradition and adventure abound. Ürgüp is the gateway into this wonderful region, a gentle transition from a modern world into a miraculous land of a former age. Within its centre are ancient inns, baths, and wells that date back to Seljuk and Ottoman times. Devrent Vadisi was named, according to the colour of its soil, the Pink Valley, an uninhabited valley with cave dwellings and rock churches its scenic splendour being quite unique. The first inhabitants of this region believed that the rocks were chimneys which belonged to fairies who lived beneath th...

One summer day she went away
Gone and left me, she's gone to stay
She's gone, I don't worry
I'm sitting on top of the world
All the summer worked all this fall
Had to take Christmas in my overalls
She's gone, but I don't worry
I'm sitting on top of the world
Going down to the freight yard
Gonna catch me a freight train
Going to leave this town
Worked and got to home
She's gone, but I don't worry
