Travel video about destination Yazd in Iran.
The ancient desert city of Yazd is located within the centre of the State Of Iran and is one of the country’s oldest cities, set like a string of pearls along the Kavir coast. It is also a centre for the followers of the Zarathustra faith, the pious predecessors of Islam who fled to the city to escape Arab persecution. A small square is situated in the middle of the Old Town district of Fahadan, flanked by historic buildings such as a prison where, according to legend, Alexander The Great held captive various Achaemenid dignitaries and which was later used as a school. The narrow streets of the historic Old Town mainly consist of mud-built buildings with partially covered corridors, domes and numerous wind towers. The maze of narrow streets in which several single-storey buildings are still inhabited has been designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The city’s largest water storage tank is dominated by six wind towers that capture the slightest breeze that in turn cool down the stored water. Nearby, Agh-E-Dolat A-Bad, the magnificent palace residence of Mohamma Taqui Khan Bafqi who was Governor of Yazd from 1747 A.D. Yazd is not only an ancient culture, it is also an Oriental dream!

The city of Yazd is one of the largest cities in Iran. It is located near Lout desert in the eastern part of central Iran. Yazd City is regarded as one of the driest cities of the country.
Yazd is mainly well-known for the high quality of its handicrafts. In 1272, the explorer Marco Polo visited the city and remarked on the city’s fine silk weaving industry. Today, it’s one of Iran’s main industrial centers for textiles.

The fire temple of Yazd is located in central Iran. It’s a place of worship for the Zoroastrians. They believe fire is an element of purity and life. The main building of the fire temple is situated in the middle of a large green garden surrounded by pine and cedar trees.
In ancient Iran, as well as a place for worshiping, a fire temple served as a court, an educational center and a health clinic. It had a section for judgment, a part to educate children and a section to treat the sick.

Yazd
Yazd (Persian: یزد [jæzd] 
pronunciation ) is the capital of Yazd Province, Iran, and one of the main cities of Zoroastrian culture. The city is located 270 km (170 mi) southeast of Esfahan. At the 2011 census, the population was 1,074,428 in 270٬575 families.
Because of generations of adaptations to its desert surroundings, Yazd has an unique Persian architecture. It is nicknamed the city of windcatchers (Persian: شهر بادگیرها Shahr-e Badgirha) because of its ancient windcatchers. It is also very well known for its Zoroastrian fire temples, ab anbars, qanats, yakhchals, Persian handicrafts, silk weaving, and its high quality confectionery.
Climate
Yazd is the driest major city in Iran, with an average annual rainfall of only 60 millimetres (2.4 in), and also the hottest north of the Persian Gulf coast, with summer temperatures very frequently above 40 °C (104 °F) in blazing sunshine with no humidity. Even at night the temperatures in summer are rather uncomfortable. In the winter, the days remain mild and sunny, but in the morning the thin air and low cloudiness cause very cold temperatures that can sometimes fall well below 0 °C (32 °F).

IRAN - City of Yazd
The city of Yazd is one of the largest cities in Iran. It is located near Lout desert in the eastern part of central Iran. Yazd City is regarded as one of the driest cities of the country. Yazd is mainly well-known for the high quality of its handicrafts. In 1272, the explorer Marco Polo visited the city and remarked on the city’s fine silk weaving industry. Today, it’s one of Iran’s main industrial centers for textiles.

The fire temple of Yazd is located in central Iran. It’s a place of worship for the Zoroastrians. They believe fire is an element of purity and life. The main building of the fire temple is situated in the middle of a large green garden surrounded by pine and cedar trees. In ancient Iran, as well as a place for worshiping, a fire temple served as a court, an educational center and a health clinic. It had a section for judgment, a part to educate children and a section to treat the sick.

The ancient desert city of Yazd is located within the centre of the State Of Iran and is one of the country’s oldest cities, set like a string of pearls along the Kavir coast. It is also a centre for the followers of the Zarathustra faith, the pious predecessors of Islam who fled to the city to escape Arab persecution. A small square is situated in the middle of the Old Town district of Fahadan, flanked by historic buildings such as a prison where, according to legend, Alexander The Great held captive various Achaemenid dignitaries and which was later used as a school. The narrow streets of the historic Old Town mainly consist of mud-built buildings with partially covered corridors, domes and numerous wind towers. The maze of narrow streets in which several single-storey buildings are still inhabited has been designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The city’s largest water storage tank is dominated by six wind towers that capture the slightest breeze that in turn cool down the stored water. Nearby, Agh-E-Dolat A-Bad, the magnificent palace residence of Mohamma Taqui Khan Bafqi who was Governor of Yazd from 1747 A.D. Yazd is not only an ancient culture, it is also an Oriental dream!

The ancient desert city of Yazd is located within the centre of the State Of Iran and is one of the country’s oldest cities, set like a string of pearls along the Kavir coast. It is also a centre for the followers of the Zarathustra faith, the pious predecessors of Islam who fled to the city to escape Arab persecution. A small square is situated in the middle of the Old Town district of Fahadan, flanked by historic buildings such as a prison where, according to legend, Alexander The Great held captive various Achaemenid dignitaries and which was later used as a school. The narrow streets of the historic Old Town mainly consist of mud-built buildings with partially covered corridors, domes and numerous wind towers. The maze of narrow streets in which several single-storey buildings are still inhabited has been designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The city’s largest water storage tank is dominated by six wind towers that capture the slightest breeze that in turn cool down the stored water. Nearby, Agh-E-Dolat A-Bad, the magnificent palace residence of Mohamma Taqui Khan Bafqi who was Governor of Yazd from 1747 A.D. Yazd is not only an ancient culture, it is also an Oriental dream!

Yazd Water Museum, Imam St corner. House converted to a museum with a lot of information about the Canat water distribution system. Contains nice cool underground rooms. Free.
Takyeh Amir Chakhmagh (Amir Chakhmagh Complex). Originally a mosque, a caravanserai, a tekyeh, a bathhouse, a cold water well, and a confectionery, this imposing structure fronts a square in the old town, opposite the water museum. You can pay a small amount to go inside and climb to the top, giving good local views, including of a nearby badgir (water reservoir with wind towers). The square has interesting fountains and is nice at night.
Cistern of Fatemeh-ye-Golshan. Easily-viewed reservoir with 4 badgirs (wind towers).

Market Square Clock, Imam St.
Atashkadeh (Zoroastrian Fire Temple), Kashani Road (a few kilometres from the old town; a taxi might be best). The fire on the inside has supposedly been burning since AD 470. Free but donations appreciated.
Dakhmeh (Zoroastrian Towers of Silence). Huge circular walls on top of hills, where the dead were left to be picked clean by vultures. A quiet, serene place
Alexander's Prison. Neither built by Alexander the Great nor a prison, but a 15th-century domed school which is quite an interesting sight with a cafe in the 'prison room'. Guides say the deep well in the middle of its courtyard was built by Alexander the Great and was used as a dungeon although this is not confirmed. Also called Ziaiyyeh school.
Dowlat Abad Gardens. With a building with a beautiful large badgir. One of nine Persian gardens inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The first day I arrived in Tehran, I was walking around the Bazaar and we were approached by several locals asking what we think about Iran, gave us free tea and cakes, and allowed us to roam their warehouses without asking for anything in return. This similar scenario happened a lot more throughout my 2 weeks time in Iran and really got me thinking about how misinformed I was about the country. It is very safe to travel in Iran, easy to do it independently as the locals will go out of their ways to help you, and the people are one of the friendliest people in the world. Not to mention how beautiful the landscape is, how stunning all the attractions are, and how off the beaten track the whole country is.
Iran is truly a special country that with restore your heart and soul and I hope that this video shows at least half of the warmth I got from the amazing people in Iran.

I thought I knew what a good hospitality is like.. until I came to Iran.
"Why go to Iran?" This is a question people often asked when I tell them I was going there. I would have ask the same if it wasn't the words of mouth I heard over the years about how awesome Iran is, how incredibly friendly the people are, and how off the beaten path the whole country is.
