An Endangered (EN) species is a species which has been categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List as likely to become extinct. "Endangered" is the second most severe conservation status for wild populations in the IUCN's schema after Critically Endangered (CR).
In 2012,the IUCN Red List featured 3079 animal and 2655 plant species as endangered (EN) worldwide. The figures for 1998 were, respectively, 1102 and 1197.
Many nations have laws that protect conservation-reliant species: for example, forbidding hunting, restricting land development or creating preserves. Population numbers, trends and species' conservation status can be found in the lists of organisms by population.
The conservation status of a species indicates the likelihood that it will become extinct. Many factors are considered when assessing the conservation status of a species; e.g., such statistics as the number remaining, the overall increase or decrease in the population over time, breeding success rates, or known threats. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species is the best-known worldwide conservation status listing and ranking system.
A Critically Endangered (CR) species is one which has been categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild. It is the highest risk category assigned by the IUCN Red List for wild species.
As of 2014, there are 2464 animals and 2104 plants with this assessment, compared with 1998 levels of 854 and 909, respectively.
As the Red List does not consider a species extinct until extensive, targeted surveys have been conducted, species which are possibly extinct are still listed as critically endangered. IUCN maintains a list of "possibly extinct" CR(PE) and "possibly extinct in the wild" CR(PEW) species, modelled on categories used by BirdLife International to categorize these taxa.
To be defined as critically endangered in the Red List, a species must meet any of the following criteria (A–E) ("3G/10Y" signifies three generations or ten years—whichever is longer—over a maximum of 100 years; "MI" signifies Mature Individuals):

Although there might be up to 30 million different animal species in the world, which may seem like a lot, scientists estimate that 99.9% of all species that have ever existed on Earth are now extinct. Extinction is a natural process; a typical species used to become extinct within 10 million years of its first appearance, although some species survive with virtually no morphological change for hundreds of millions of years. However, these days, when the planet is bursting at the seams with over 7 billion humans, the species loss is occurring at a rate 1,000 times greater than the natural background rate. Ruthless human expansion, hunting, and the destruction of natural habitats, climate changes, pollution and other factors have caused an incredible number of animals to become extinct. Som...

From the beautiful borneo shark, to the rarest irrawaddy dolphins, these are 14 ENDANGERED Sea Creatures ! Green Sea Turtles -- There’s a global trade in sea turtle meat and turtle products, and that serves to endanger these creatures. Some of these animals are caught and killed at young ages, then dried and varnished to be sold as curio items. The animals are also poached for their shells, which can fetch steep prices. The reason that Green Sea Turtles are named as such is because they eat only green seagrass and seaweeds. They also have a layer of green-colored fats under their shells. Borneo Shark -- Sharks are mercilessly hunted for their meat and for their fins, which is considered a delicacy. Borneo Sharks have been listed as endangered by the International Union of Conservati...

Red Wolf -- Did you know that by the 1970s, the pure red wolf was thought to have gone extinct in the wild? They once inhabited the US, from Texas to New York and was considered a top predator within its historic habitat of swamps, forests and coastal prairies. Human hunters wiped out their numbers, and habitat loss was thought to have finished off the animals. But since a population was reintroduced, the red wolf is thought...
Here are some of the weirdest and most rare animals that have been hunted to almost extinction including the Gooty Tarantula. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 8- Goliath Frog – This endangered little guy can be found in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. Its population is decreasing because of its home being destroyed, as well as it being killed for food. In some parts of West Africa, the Goliath Frog is considered a delicacy. Another big problem facing this animal is that they are being shipped off to zoos and to animal traders to be sold as pets. The frogs don’t do well in captivity and very rarely mate. The Equatorial Guinean government has put their foot down saying that only 300 frogs may be sent out of the country a year – but that may not be enough to save them. 7- Lost R...

In a world first, zookeeper Rohan Cleave captured the amazing hatching process of a critically endangered Lord Howe Island Stick Insect at Melbourne Zoo. The eggs incubate for over 6 months and until now the hatching process has never been witnessed. If you didn't see it you wouldn't believe it could fit in that egg! Spend five minutes of your time looking at another nearly destroyed peace of nature, next species Homo Sapiens? These are two male Dusky Leaf Monkeys, found primarily on the Malay Peninsula, including southern Burma and parts of Thailand. They also inhabit the islands of Langkawi, Penang, and Perhentian Besar. (According to Lekagul and McNeely in 1977 and Medway, 1969. We doubt strongly if they are still there.....)

There you may stand in your splendour and jewels
Swaying me in both directions
One is the right one, the other for fools
How do I make my selection?
The city lies silent in the warm morning light
The sand is as golden as saffron
Oasis of love sweet water of life
God bless the poor ones who have none though they've tried
Someone is drowning down there in the flood
But this river will dry by tomorrow
Is it's ocean or stream this love in my blood?
Bringer of joy and sorrow?
The end of the journey must soon be in sight
Birth is the start of the swansong
Oasis of love sweet water of life
God bless the poor ones who want some by are denied
No one is given the map to their dreams
All we can do is to trace it
See where we go to
Know where we've been
Build up the courage to face it
While we fumble in the darkness where once there was light
Roaming the land of the ancients
Oasis of love sweet water of life
God bless the poor ones whose patience never died
While we stumble in blindness where once there was sight
Searching for trees in the forest
Oasis of love sweet water of life
God bless the poor ones who have none though they have tried
God bless the poor ones who want some but are denied
God bless the poor ones whose patience never died
