A teenager was allegedly kidnapped and taken on a terrifying ride across NSW after a request for marriage was turned down.

The 18-year-old woman was allegedly abducted from a home in Bankstown in Sydney's south-west in the early hours of Monday morning.

Her alleged kidnapper was a 31-year-old man she knew.

Police will allege the man asked the teen's parents for her hand in marriage but they refused.

After allegedly kidnapping the teenager, the man is accused of sexually assaulting her at spots around Sydney before driving south towards Melbourne.

It will be alleged the teenager messaged her friend saying she was scared and being held against her will.

He is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday.
