Daisy Dares You

Daisy May Keeley Coburn (born 5 November 1993), is a British singer and songwriter. She previously performed under the stage name Daisy Dares You, a reference to the character of the same name from the 1990s British television show ZZZap!. After performing under this name between 2009 and 2010 and recording an album which was never released, she was dropped by her record label. As of 2013 she is in a Brighton-based band called Pink Lizards, where she plays guitar and is the lead singer.

Early life

Coburn was born in Great Dunmow, Essex. Coming from a musical family, with her mother once working as a backing singer for bands Duran Duran and The The, Coburn learned to play the guitar and piano when she was six years old. On Boxing Day 2007, Coburn played a song she had been writing called "Hurt" to family and friends. A friend of her mother's, Matthew Marston, heard the song and invited her to his home studio to record it. Coburn and Marston later wrote together on her debut album, Rush.

ZZZap!

Zzzap (rendered ZZZap!) was a British children's television comedy programme. The concept of the show is a giant 18 ft comic that has been brought to life. The show was broadcast on ITV from 8 January 1993 until 21 September 2001 and was produced for ten series by The Media Merchants and Meridian Broadcasting.

Format

The programme follows the same format throughout its run. A title intro is shown consisting of a couple of short clips for each character from the series. It is then followed by a series of short two- or three-minute-long segments, followed by the credits. Each segment is introduced by the camera zooming in on a corresponding panel on a giant comic, shot in reverse (e.g.: The Camera starting at the Panel, and pulling back) and then played in reverse. This giant comic has a set of nine frames on it, some of which contain a character representing their segments. The show was designed with deaf children in mind, and so the style of the show is predominantly visual, with the sound only providing music and effects. The audience in "The Handymen" segments would also often sign clapping instead of actually clapping.

"Number One Enemy" is the debut single from British singer Daisy Dares You. The single features Chipmunk. The single was released by Digital download on 1 March 2010.

Critical reception

Nick Levine of Digital Spy gave the song a positive review, stating:

We Brits have been surprisingly sniffy when it comes to homegrown pop-punk girlies - just ask everyone from Love Bites to Alex Roots - but 16-year-old Daisy Coburn could be the one to eradicate the collective sneer. She's blonde and photogenic, blessed with plenty of 'tude and has even bagged a Chipmunk cameo for her debut single. Well, what are labelmates there for, eh?

Best of all, the single itself is a bit of a blast. Inspired by adolescent squabbles with Daisy's "really neurotic" sister, 'Number One Enemy' is a synthy little pop-punk ditty with nearly as much fizz as a Mento dropped in a bottle of Coke (if you haven't tried it, do). "Take off, take off, Daisy's about to take off," Chipmunk predicts around two-thirds through. When the big catchy chorus hits, you won't find it hard to agree.

1 (number)

1 (one; /ˈwʌn/ or UK /ˈwɒn/, also called unit, unity, and (multiplicative) identity), is a number, a numeral, and the name of the glyph representing that number. It represents a single entity, the unit of counting or measurement. For example, a line segment of unit length is a line segment of length 1.

As a number

One, sometimes referred to as unity, is the integer before two and after zero. One is the first non-zero number in the natural numbers as well as the first odd number in the natural numbers.

Any number multiplied by one is that number, as one is the identity for multiplication. As a result, one is its own factorial, its own square, its own cube, and so on. One is also the result of the empty product, as any number multiplied by one is itself. It is also the only natural number that is neither composite nor prime with respect to division, but instead considered a unit.

As a digit

The glyph used today in the Western world to represent the number 1, a vertical line, often with a serif at the top and sometimes a short horizontal line at the bottom, traces its roots back to the Indians, who wrote 1 as a horizontal line, much like the Chinese character 一. The Gupta wrote it as a curved line, and the Nagari sometimes added a small circle on the left (rotated a quarter turn to the right, this 9-look-alike became the present day numeral 1 in the Gujarati and Punjabi scripts). The Nepali also rotated it to the right but kept the circle small. This eventually became the top serif in the modern numeral, but the occasional short horizontal line at the bottom probably originates from similarity with the Roman numeral I. In some countries, the little serif at the top is sometimes extended into a long upstroke, sometimes as long as the vertical line, which can lead to confusion with the glyph for seven in other countries. Where the 1 is written with a long upstroke, the number 7 has a horizontal stroke through the vertical line.
