Austin (i/ˈɒstɪn, ˈɔː-/) is the capital of the US state of Texas and the seat of Travis County. Located in Central Texas, Austin is the 11th-most populous city in the United States and the fourth-most populous city in Texas. It is the fastest growing of the largest 50 US cities. Austin is also the second largest state capital in the United States, after Phoenix, Arizona. As of July 1, 2014, Austin had a population of 912,791 (U.S. Census Bureau estimate). The city is the cultural and economic center of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area, which had an estimated population of 1,943,299 as of July 1, 2014.
In the 1830s, pioneers began to settle the area in central Austin along the Colorado River. After Republic of Texas Vice President Mirabeau B. Lamar visited the area during a buffalo-hunting expedition between 1837 and 1838, he proposed that the republic's capital, then located in Houston, be relocated to the area situated on the north bank of the Colorado River near the present-day Congress Avenue Bridge. In 1839, the site was officially chosen as the republic's new capital (the republic's seventh and final location) and was incorporated under the name Waterloo. Shortly thereafter, the name was changed to Austin in honor of Stephen F. Austin, the "Father of Texas" and the republic's first secretary of state.
Port Austin Lighthouse (or Port Austin Reef Light) is a lighthouse off the shore of Lake Huron, about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north of Port Austin, Huron County Michigan sitting on a rocky reef (shoal), which is just north of the tip of the Thumb and a real hazard to navigation.
The original plans were for this lighthouse to be built on shore. The crib was built in Tawas.
The light was first lit in 1878, and its pier was modified in 1899. It is still operational and is automated. The foundation materials are a pier, and the tower is constructed of yellow brick, with buff markings. It is an octagonal, 60-foot (18 m) tall tower, with an attached keeper house. However, the focal plain is 76 feet (23 m). It originally had a fourth-order Fresnel lens /freɪˈnɛl/ by Henry Lepaute of Paris and installed in 1899. The optic was 12-inch (300 mm) glass. In 1985 the lens was replaced by a 12-volt solar-powered Tideland Signal 300 mm acrylic optic, which eliminated the need to maintain the submarine cable.
In this video, I head up to Port Austin, MI, located near the tip of the "Thumb" of Michigan. I check out the downtown area as well as walk out on the pier reaching out into Lake Huron. You can also see a distant breakwater lighthouse from afar.

Host Tom Daldin ventures to beautiful Traverse City, located at the base of Traverse Bay in northeastern lower Michigan. It's a city that boasts a great downtown area that is filled with wonderful restaurants and is known for its exceptional spirits—specifically, vodka. Port Austin: A Town for Families, Kayak Adventurers, and Food and Art Lovers. Episode 105.
In this video, I continue along M-25 between Port Sanilac and Port Austin. I drive through Harbor Beach (where I also did a Let's Visit video), Port Hope, and Port Austin (also another place where I did a Let's Visit video that same day).
Having fun at the Hotel & Playing in the sand, fidget spinner app & swinging & swimming in a heated pool. This video has dashboard camera with driving scenes, then playing with colored magnetic rocks. Take a drive with Dad to the Camp Grounds so we can visit Friends & Family. Grace drives her electric car to the pool!
My drive from Unionville to Port Austin on M-25, had to fix this one up due to some stops and also my winshield getting dirty. I stopped in Bay Port to get some washer fluid (thinking I didn't have any), sadly, it was just iced over and I didn't get the problem fixed until I got to Port Austin (bought new wiper blades), not familiar with Caseville and my 4G wasn't working well in Caseville. Enjoy, and if you don't like it, blow me! No audio after the song plays, I was listening to an ungergound prank calls tape which was as dirty as my windshield so i don't think most people would like that (my SD Card died too, bad luck trip), so get out your favorite album and listen to it while exercising to this.
Going on M-25 from port Austin to Forestville. My intention was to record all the way to Lexington but my camera stopped. Plus, YouTube won't me me go past 48 minutes. Will upload Port Sanaliac and Lexington's vids down the road.
A nice day trip to see the fireworks, and for the first time in decades I got sunburned. This was the payoff though.
In episode 15 of Project Binky, we wrestle with brake lines and fuel lines, make a couple of reasonably nice braces for under the car, argue over P clips and drink a bunch of tea. There's also a biscuit dunking incident. Hope you enjoy it!
